Old Radio Shack RC Jeep Renegade
So a few of us at work decided to tinker with a few RC cars we stumbled upon from our childhoods and we found this old Jeep of mine and could not get it to work. In the process of googling the car I stumbled upon these forums, and decided to ask the community here for help.
It's an old Radio Shack R/C Off-Road Jeep Renegade. It says on the car and the controller that it operates on 27.095 Mhz frequency. We tried taking it apart and looking for shorts / bad connections, but our knowledge about R/C cars is very very limited. We work in a maintenance facility so we do have access to wiring / soldering / etc.
The problem is.... when we turn on just the car we can hear the throttle motor and the steering motor both working at irregular intervals. When we turn on the controller... the car goes quiet and nothing works. Turn the controller off again and it starts firing again. While trying to troubleshoot we found out that when we put our fingers on the antenna... it goes quiet as well, but still receives no input. We figure maybe something wrong with the receiver and/or transmittor not receiving / sending correct frequencies? Or possibly that there is too much interference nowadays with cell phones / etc. We work in close proximity to a cell phone tower (within 300 yards) and we were also trying it in a large steel maintenance building.
Was just wondering if anyone knows of what to do in a situation like this. If this is a common problem with very old R/C cars? And if so, do we need new parts? I want to say this is from the mid-80s.
Thanks for any help.
