2013 Novak Off-Road Race: Pro-Line's Alex Eklund TQs & Wins 17.5 SCT

Latest from Pro-Line:

This Past Weekend was the 2nd annual Novak Off-road Race hosted by Hobby Plex at Omaha, NE. The Event was sold out at 300+ entries weeks before the event. This year the air temps were in the 20s and 30s all weekend. This made for a cold Race Track but the moisture was there with lots of traction ! I competed in the 17.5 SCT and 17.5 Stadium Truck. Last year I had won all 17.5 Class’s so I had my titles to defend and the pressure was on. This year’s Stock 17.5 competition in all Class’s was very tight and fast!

Since traction was high I choose the New ION SC M4 tires for my SCT. The IONs where planted to the track All weekend and made the SC stable and Fast! This help me be the only driver on a 12 lap race in 17.5 SCT. The Stadium Truck ran M4 Scrub-T with P-L Closed Cell foam. The Scrub-T gave enough bite but didn’t lock down my T4 too much and I turned the Fastest Lap of the Weekend in Stock Truck. There was very little tire wear all weekend I ran the same set of tires.

We ran 3 Qualifiers on Saturday with 34 heats per Round. There was a last Chance Qualifier Sunday morning then right into the Single 8 minute A-Mains to decide the victor. I was sitting at TQ for 17.5 SCT and at the Start of the tone for the 8 minutes I took off and never looked back ! Held the Lead the entire Main and drove smooth to a 1st Place victory ! As for 17.5 Stadium Truck I was sitting 3rd on the grid and had a rough start to the Long 8 min Main and battled back into the top 5 but a few mistakes in the tight racing push be towards the back. Wish we would have had Triple-A mains and could have tried to redeem myself.

I also loan a set of M4 SC Suburbs to a friend that was racing a borrowed SC10 for the weekend and he had a great run in the Mod SCT A-main to grab 3rd Place!
