Anyone has the detail number?
And by the way, is the Ultra Metal made only for Trinity?

I just read an article on rczone.net that said Panasonic admitted that the UMH is a re-shrinked SMH.

I saw a post by a certain well known battery matcher, quite some time ago, that he beleived that the cells were the same. I heard a rumor that they were just getting better batches with the new shrink..
That does not surprise me..

I agree, the word I hear about run time & cell wear & tear over time sounds EXACTLY like SMH's, so it's logical to assume the Ultra Metals are just relabeled SMH's that happen to be slightly better batches(in other word, an evolution of the cell, not a revolution). In another word....marketing....

I can't say for shure about the re-lable theory but I can say that the Ultra-metal's I just bought are better then the SMH's of the same level, so they do what they say as far as mine go so it dosn't matter to me either way,and there isn't much feedback about the GP and Sanyo 3300ma's so I will stay with Panisonic for now.

Just re-shrink?
It's really surprised me.

Lighter shrink??? :D :D
No, I do not know of the weight difference. I guess you would need to measure a single, unsoldered cell from each type to see whats up..

Yes, & then average that weight per cell over several crates of them to get a reliable average weight. It's not that hard to see two crates of the exact same cells that don't weigh the same. Weight is simply not a reliable way to compare any 2 cells of any kind. And even if on average the Ultras do weigh a bit less, they are another generation of cell(even if the design is not changed), it's typical to see the incremental improvements that the Panasonics are showing(& the Sanyos are doing the same, they just don't relabel theirs to make everyone think they have to buy them over the older batches.....
