Well, I haven't quite made up my mind yet as to what I'll run next time I get to race. Either it'll still be Spec or Stock with the brushless. If it is Spec,, I'm going back to using the 1300 batteries. Or maybe a motor with shunts for brushes. Or maybe even a shorted out segment of the armature. Oh,, maybe I'll oil all the bearings on the car and the motor bushings with motor cleaner, or even better, super glue.
Anyhow, now that I got a couple more receivers, maybe I'll set the car up for stock and run my T3 in spec. Hey,, that way I'll only have 2wd to their 4wd cars. And if I do,, maybe I better run it with the offroad tires,,, don't want to have too much traction with the street tires.
Anyhow,, gotta work this coming weekend but if the shedule holds out,, I get the next 2 Sat.s off (16th+23rd). Lets hope the new manager of Sam's meat dept. is more lieniant in granting time off.:)
Ron - are you saying that I shouldn't work on my motors to get them back where I was with you 2 weeks ago? I think my TQ time was 15 in 5:13 right?
JimmyMac
08-04-2003, 07:29 PM
Hiya. Well I say run what the H@!! ya wanna run! Spec is NOT a beginners class. It's an affordable/cheap class that ANYONE can run. It's based on car setup and DRIVERS SKILL. So Ron, don't bend over backwards to please other people. It's your hobby. Run what ya like.
Example. To run spec you need the car, radio, and electronics. Plus a Spec motor and Batteries. I don't know Glenns cost, but at Tower you can get batteries for $17 a pop and motors for about $30. So let's say you can get away with 3 spec batteries and 2 motors that gonna cost you $111.
For Stock I'll go with 3 batteries and 2 motors as well. Motors are about the same at Tower for Monster Stock Pro. So $60 for 2 motors. Now to be competitive, you may need the "good" batteries. So I will go with 3 "good" batteries. Each is $65 for Team Spec GP3300's. So that's $195 for batteries. Add the motors and that's $255! Me I run 4 batteries and 3 motors. So for me that's $350. Of course I have more than that. But that's all I need for a race day.
For Mod I'll still stick with 3 batts and 2 motors. Same good batteries from Stock can be used in Mod. So Batteries are $195. For motors, at Tower for KR 10t... that's $70 a motor!! Of course they can be had cheaper.. like $55 a pop. But just goin with Tower here. So that's $140 for 2 motors. Add batteries and you now have $335! Me, I run 4 batteries and 2 motors. So that's $400. BUT, here's the kicker. For Mod, you need to cut the com after every other run. This is for the life of the motor. On top of that, depending on brushes, you'll need to replace them every 2-3 runs. Or just get different brushes that last longer. Also Mod=more wear and tear on entire car. Including tires.
So let's see this...
Spec = $111.
Stock= $255.
Mod = $335.
So what do you want to race? :D This all assumes that you have car, radio and gear, charger, and other accessories.
Gee what a lecture. I must be bored. Or waiting for dinner. haha. Now there are other batteries that are cheaper and perform excellent for club races. So I'm sure you can cut the prices down for Mod and Stock.
Remember this is just a hobby. So we are here to have fun. If you have sore loosers in your class. Just ignore them. I don't have to worry about it because there aren't any (to my knowledge) in Stock Class. But if you feel you are under powered or at a disadvantage, just approach me and ask for help. I'm always willing. I run by the rules. My car is 100% Roar legal. So getting that extra lap you are seeking, or shaving a tenth is always possible. I'm always seeking it. Hell. I think I cut a second off my State Race TQ time! And I was hella fast then! ;)
L8Rz all......
Jimmy Mac
Well said Jimmy. That is basically the reason I have been running Spec instead of Stock recently. Well, also cause Justin has been a little down since the state race and has lost some interest so I have been using his batteries and motors. It does get costly trying to keep up in Stock although the competition is so much fun. I am not very good at tuning motors either but am Still learning though. Maybe for me the Brushless would work out well??? Still debating Glenn...........
I think the only reason this came up was because Ron was so far ahead of us this week. I was only joking with Ron on the stand when I asked him if he was running a 3300 pack. I think you knew that right Ron? He was running the same 20 second laps I ran 2 weeks ago and my car was legal then.....just like I think Ron's car is legal too...........Oh well, like Jimmy Mac said this is all TONS of FUN!! So, no reason to get upset anyone.
Anyway - Justin might give it another try this week in Spec and if he does I'll run Stock again.

Maybe make some changes to setup. Drive 2nd. Offer opinions and possible changes to setup. And let you drive the 3rd and Main. Anytakers? See me this Saturday.....

Racing rc cars is about fun. I'm always stressing fun. When it stops being fun, it's time for a break or a change.
lesson two. Street leason. Never beat your opponent any more than you have to IF you want them to come back and race again. Always try to win by a nose, that way he feels he has a chance to beat you. Of course, if you don't want them to come back, I say blow them away. If they still have the right attitude and do it for fun, they will come back anyway! Back to my first sentece.
IT'S ABOUT FUNNNNNNNNNNN!

First off, Glenn,, what is a yanmar????
No racing for me this weekend at the Wood,, gotta do that work thing to make a few more pennies so I can try to run stock.
Everyone that knows me knows I don't cheat. To cheat to win is no win at all. How many other guys would put their car on the line and say if you find anything illeagal on it you can have it? The motor in the car was used when I got it. Also, 2 of the battery packs I've been running were also used. The Arm in the motor has been replaced, as have the brushes, so anything that might have been done to it by any "motor man" has been negated. This arm also hasn't been turned in over 10 full tilt runs. If it's going this good, should I really mess with it?? There are screws missing from my chassis. No, I am not going to replace them. Why?? it obviosly handles fine the way it is.
I run this class only because it's the only one I can afford. I've run in stock,, and did ok there also. But I really love the not having to constantly work on my car that Spec allows me. This also lets me do the calling that I like.
3 weeks ago John and I were turning the same lap times as I did last week. This time his car just didn't want to go for whatever reason it was. Back then no-one seemed upset. This time, I got flack because I was "so far ahead". BUT nothing has changed on my car except for a little more paint has been rubbed off the fenders. Same lap times as a few weeks ago,, same as in the State race,, Car seems to be pretty consistant to me. And Joseph beat me back then turning about identical lap times as I did this past weekend.
I have almost 2 weeks before I decide what to do. People tell me I might run others off from trying spec, or quit running it because they can't compeate. Sure feels like to me from where I'm sitting, their trying to run me off. And IF I were to "throw" a race to let someone else win,, is that fair to them or to me?
Still lots to think over about all this,,,,,:(

I'm glad somebody else asked the Yanmar [?????] thing, I don't feel as dumb now! So what is a yanmar?
Well, I guess Joseph and I will be at the ballpark again this weekend. His team is playing one last tournament. They did better the last tourney, and Joe pitched 2 shutout inning's in one game.
Anyway, will probably see ya'll the next Sat. at the Wood. Maybe Durham Sunday if Joseph's team loses out Sat.

ron zee---someone once said about basketball, "if you wanna be good, be like mike". i must agree that from a certain point of view, it does at some point in time become discouraging to see the same person win weekend after weekend, whether it be at the wood or another track, and that also applies to all sports, and not just r/c racing. babe ruth struck out more times than he hit a home run, so ron you just keep on doing what makes you happy. i spend a lot of time reading about what it took to make the winner's of our hobby today the professionals that they are. i have also read that if you want to know what works, ask the fast guys, and although it might not seem right to you, it works for them. that is why i pick people's brains and ask questions. i am hard on myself for not being as good as i know i can be, and often it comes across in a negative way. i also realize that, like many things, only time will tell and you can never give up trying. you did not get to where you are today by not trying, so keep driving whatever class you want, and one day it will be someone else's turn in the barrel, and they too will have others chasing them for the top spot. see you at the track..
glenn---will you run the "yanmar" on touring or oval?!?! :D

Well, is anyone going to be out there today for practice at all??? Figures,, I get a Weds. off and no-one else to go play with.
Jimmy, does this gearing got to be dead on 6.5 total with the brushless, or can it be over/under a little,, and if it needs to be exact, what gears do I need to use???
Also,, what am I going to have to do to figure out te gearing for my T3 with the spec motor to at least get somewhere close to what it ran in the car???

Hey Ron
I would put my car up there and say if ya find anything illegal you can have it too. I agree with ya whats the point in running something if its not legal. I will say this though I feel spec is a good class and I do feel that for those who do not want to spend alot of money its great but like you most people in spec do not do anything to their cars and because they have the same gear expect to win well thats not the case they ask for setup help and they do get it but do they try anything on their own """NO""" all they do is swap battery packs and maybe a motor all day saturday if they would look at a few things on the chassis they could easily find 2 tenths of a second with no problem per lap I really do not see why they argue this you have to do some work guys to get faster even the pros work for every little bit they can find (I know we are no pros). So what the heck am I saying well here it is
EARN THE RIGHT TO CRY WHEN YOU DON"T WIN!!!!!!!!
work on the car have a fresh motor have your best battery in the main and if it does not work out keep trying work at it week in week out Have you ever heard me cry because I did not win but who do ya see workin on there stuff every week and have I won any touring car race at all """"NO!!!""""" I enjoy working on the car trying new stuff ect.. some of you will say thats not for me and you are right BUT have you earned the right to CRY about it.
Lets just quit the crying and race if ya need some help ask you will get it from anybody at "THE WOOD" if ya wanna win work for it dont just turn on the radio and car.

Hey Ron, ya should've annouced the night before that you were gonna go to the Wood for practice! Not that I would have gone since I have my other toy. But I might have stopped by to make fun of ya.
Jairo. I think if I go to Atlanta, it'll be with Hank and Joe. Or just Hank.. haha. So I'll ask them again. Maybe you can tag along. Mark said he and Steve were goin. I'm sure you talked to them already. Anyways, we'll talk about it this weekend. I'll be there. And hey..... It was my first win in months!! Cut me some slack!! :p Gotta turn the shamrock back on for some luck baby!!
Rodney, gonna be there this weekend? I think Stan the Man will be back to the Wood here soon. I'm thinking next weekend he'll show up. We'll see. But anyways, we gotta get our cars tuned up man! Gotta knock down those brushless cars!!! :D
Ron... the car needs to be at 6.5 or higher. Not below. Not 6.46. Not 6.34. Not 6.49. It has to be 6.50 or higher. Got it!! Gearing... 98/37 will give you like 6.62. 100/38 will give you 6.58. 102/39 will give you 5.54. And so on and so on. When I did run my brushless in the Yok... it was at 6.59. Tim ran his right at 6.50. Ask Greg, he'll tell ya at the track. Blah blah blah... talk with ya L8Rz....

God hovers above all! Kinda like walking on water ya know....
Anyways, as for hovering... well I found out that when I changed my main drive motor to an upgraded one suggested by the company (new motor is faster/higher torque and has longer run time.. plus it is now the standard motors in the new kits...) my new toy will not hold it's heading. Basically you can trim it right on the ground under little throttle. But once you start to "hover"... applying throttle.... the mixer doesn't compesate for the new gearing and motor. So the mixing is all wrong and the tail will drift to the right. So the correction is to install a Head Holding Gyro replacing the other Gyro. Which I hope to do tomorrow. Had to order some new blades since I hit the stove with it.. haha :p I may just trim both down equally and use these "trimmed" blades for the kitchen "hover" training.
Well once I get the hang of it. I'll look you up Glenn on getting me a good Futaba radio. Maybe 6 or 9 channel with programs for both Heli and Planes. But this will be later down the line. Was gonna get a Hitec. But I'm not to fond of them.
Rodney, as for Georgia... it's this month. 23rd and 24th. Got foam tires and a 19t or Mod motor? I'm taking my C2 with me. But I may also try out another "new" 19t motor since any 19t is legal for this race.
I guess I'll head out. Got some blades to trim. Maybe prep up some Stock motors for this weekend so I don't have to do any work at the track. Catch yall L8Rz......

kilruf---not sure if this will help, but there is a possibility that by adjusting the tail rotor tracking, if it is possible to do so, that may compensate for the extra power the new motor puts out. the tail rotor is also known as the "anti-torque rotor". i am familiar with this because i work on the real thing. by the way, where is this georgia race being held, and how close is it to hotlanta?
glenn---those 32's are a TIGHT fit on my racer's axles. have you got that yanmar tuned up and ready to go? lol

DB, my gyro has adjustment on it. And I set it up to center. But it just wasn't working out. I installed my other gyro (Futaba GY240) and it solved all my problems. :D So now I can hover without it slowly spinning around. Blades didn't come in today. So I'm just using my "trimmed" blades. It'll still hover. Just need more rotor speed to do so.
Blah blah blah... anyways, I'll be at the track tomorrow. Can't trust the weather man because it was forcast like it was for the past couple weekends and we still raced. So we shall see.
Oh yeah, DB... use a reamer to ream the holes out slightly on the Takeoffs. This'll help make them go on (and sometimes off) smoother. Basically you want to round the edges of the hole so they don't catch on the threads of the axle. If you don't, you'd need a Yanmar to pull them off!!! :p

I've decided on the Hummingbird for it's durability. Plus it's already built. You just need to add electronics of your own. Or buy their combo kit. They can be had for under $300. skunk---my name is Don and i race at rosewood. i can tell you that the off-road track is gone. it has been taken out to make room for an indoor carpet track later on this year. the outdoor track is an asphalt road course. excellent track. we do race 10th scale spec, stock, and mod touring cars. 12th scale is sometimes raced if there are enough drivers. you can get more information about the track and race dates and times at www.glennshobbycorner.com and also on this bulletin board. come on out and join the fun.

well I think I will pass on the Georgia thing I would be more intereste dbut I have no foams and old 19turn and no experience on carpet YET! If I had been running on the rug I would be game.
The TC3 is back together and looks very good hope to try out my new stuff soon

Rodney, this is NOT a carpet race. It's an Asphalt race. Asphalt with Foams. If you need practice... just race Rosewood with Foams. :D As for 19t... I'm just gonna run my C2. I also have a C1 to run as well. Just gear it like a stock motor or even lower. Say like a P2K. 6.5 or lower. Depending on your tire wear. Racing on Asphalt with foams is very very easy. If you have a good setup with rubber tires... once switched to foams it's like a dream car!
Anyways, woke up late. Didn't know if Ron was goin or not. I guess he forgot my number or something.. haha.. oh well. Chargen up the heli..... see if I can't scare the cats.....

Jimmy, I can't go to the Ga. race. Sorry, please don't hate me,:( . Just could not get thing's worked out so I could be gone both day's. For now look's like I will be in Raliegh for a going away party, my best friend's son is going into the AIRFORCE!, this Saturday, so might spend the night and race at Don's Sunday. Should be at Glenn's the 23rd. Oh well.
As for the tire's, the guy said they unloaded them on Friday, so I should have them tommorrow. I'll E-mail ya.
Joseph is through with baseball, so we might get back into the groove some and race a little more often! Gotta finish up the TC-3 and try Rodney's set-up and see how it work's. Take it easy.

That's cool Hank. I dunno if I want to go to GA. haha. Mark'll hate me for this. But I'm not gonna drive my car with the way it is now. That's why I won't drive to Durham anymore. Just to and from work. Been thinking of taking the turbo out of the Miata for the winter and installing a header. This'll fix the oil leak problem along with any more wear and tear on the engine from boost pressure. Then next year I can start over with a new engine and build it up. Plus I think my turbo manifold has a crack in it. So that needs to be welded back up. Blah blah blah. Just more money. I think I now have enough batteries and motors to last me for the rest of the season in RC racing. Plus my Yok is all modded up and finished. So I don't need to be spending anymore money on it. Now it's time for setups and driving!
Hmmm clutch or header.... clutch or header..... haha... damn. This month Header... next month Clutch... there ya go!
I'll have to talk with you later on too Hank. Might see how much you will charge for hooking up a suspension kit on the Miata....
Anyways, let me head out. Got some planning to do.....

Hey guys, fixed the TC3 today and took it out side and ran it around in front of my house, it a very clean street and not much dirt or stones so it was fun. Lost control and put in an a ditch and unfortunately it was full of water, luckily only the front end got wet. I let it dry out and it still works, kinda glitchy once in a while, but i think theres still more water in it. Gonna see tomorrow.

Well, so far the shedule has me listed as off this Sat. so ,,, I also have Thurs. and Fri. off too, so I'll be doing more testing with the spec truck and hopefully the stock TC3.
Seems there might be a problem with this brushless I got from Tim,,,, I know that it's supposed to hit its "rev limiter" when going down the straights,,, but,, it'll go down it one lap and go,,, wroom, wroom, wroom, hitting the limiter about 4-5 times. The next lap it'll go hitting the limiter about 30 times in the time it takes to go down the straight at Durham. Definatly sounds strange,, you got to hear it to see what I mean. Also,, when it hits the limiter "softly" as I call it,, it has little punch out of the turns. When it hits the limiter "hard" it screams out of the turns. And,,, if you mess around with the bundled up wires,, it'll even cut off. A lot of people saw it do this yesterday at Durham. Mark P saw/heard it doing it too so I know I'm not nuts.
As for the number Jimmy, I keep losing it and seeing as you haven't called me in a little while,, your number is off of the caller ID list.:p
Anyhow,, I'll be there this week and hopefully I'll be running the brushless,, unless I send it back to Novak that is,,,,

Sorry, Mark. Was in a rush. Plus I had typed it several times about what I round with the Strat 2.0 vs. the Alfa 2.0. Both bodies do good. I just prefer the Alfa 2.0 right now. Also, you didn't specify with Glenn on what 2.0 you want. The Alfa or the Stratus!! ;)
Well I guess I can give you a call again Ron later this week when you are home. Then you won't have an excuse not to wanna take me to Durham next time!! :p Tim says he's gonna try and race this weekend too. But he's not sure if the weather will hold out haha.
As for Spec Battery charging, that sounds about right. For my GP3300's... I'll discharge them before racing starts. Tray them for about 30 minutes. Then charge them up right after they come off the tray. This to me is the best way to preserve my batteries and offers the best performance IMO. So with Spec, I'd do about the same except you can not tray them. So the resistor thing comes into effect (or affect?). Blah blah blah
Ron, I'd send the BL back to Novak. I did work in your T3 when it was in there right? Hmmmm I dunno.
Anyways, let me go. Maybe I'll charge up the heli and tear up the walls in my room!

Well,, I'm not too sure it worked all that good in the truck now that I think of it. But, then again,, I ran it only once and the gearing was way off, but even still,,, it seemed to not have as much punch as it should have.
The other day, I put it down and it took off at full throttle like it was using a dead Spec pack. It got upto speed and all, but it seemed sluggish. The next time I put it down,, it took off like a rocket. Guess I do need to send it back in. Did Tim ever have any problems with it? I knew I shoulda keep that TC3.:D
Ok, get this,, the other day at Durham,, I had the car sitting on the table with the wheels in the air and I had "idled" it up so it was turning the tires. Without touching the radio, when I would lean over the car,, the motor would slow down. As I would lean back, it would speed up!!??!! You could do it with your hand too. Just hold your hand over it and move it away, and it would affect the motor speed. Now, it didn't do anything to the steering servo, it stayed still,, but man,, it was definatly weird.
So,, anyhow I'll be out there this weekend running Spec with my T3 if I can figure out the gearing for it. Right now, I could run it in stock and keep up!! But,,, it'll only run 4 minutes,,, sorta a bad thing when the races are 5 minutes long!!!:D
I'll be around tomorrow afternoon and Fri. too to go practice at the Wood,,, anyone else going to be around???
JimmyMac
08-13-2003, 06:50 PM
Hmmm Ron, you sure it's not that damn cheap ***** radio of yours?!! :p For your profile, did you set your EPA at 100% for both throttle and brake? No dead band or other adjustments to the radio? I dunno, I hear Novak Calling................
Mark, briefly saw Tim at the bookstore the other day. But he had to leave to help out his bro'n'law. So we'll see this Saturday if he shows up to race like he said he would. That or I'll have to head to his place and continue our game of Guanlet on the PS2. We've almost beat the game. Just a few more levels!
Anywhot, let me go. I hear my charger beeping.....

ps. Ron, buggy slicks up front... Touring tires in the rear for Xray. Gear ratio close to TC3.... Ta'Da! :D

I've noticed that battery voltage and traction have a lot to do with how the rev limiter feels.
High voltage and traction will have it bang the limiter hard and often. It over revs, or just revs higher than it should in the limited mode.
The sensor monitors rotor speed. With a hot battery and good traction, the car leaps forward when you jump on the throttle. The rapid acceleration of the rotor combined with the forward momentum of the chassis allows the rotor speed (rpms) to go well above the preset limit. Then, because the software "sees" a higher than allowed rpm, it cuts the power. The momentum generated due to good traction continues to accelerate the car. Then... the forward speed of the car drops off and the motor rpms with it. Now the software "sees" a lower rpm than the throttle position indicates (you still got it pegged), full power is then returned to the motor and the whole process begins again.
On the flip side of the coin, a weak battery fails to generate enough momentum to carry the rotor much beyond the preset limit. This is noticed by a more gentle accel and deccel condition with more time between the felt or heard cycles.
Ran a pack this afternoon at the "WOOD". Pinestraw down on the turn one end, not real bad.
Anybody other than me notice their chassis bottom out on the little dip just past the start/finish line?
Ron Zee
08-14-2003, 11:33 AM
No, this was doing this out of the same turns and the same straights at Durham. Put the car on the straight right in front of me and punch it to take off, and it hits ther limiter "hard". Drive it back to me, and do it again, going the same direction, and it'll hit it "soft". And when it hits it soft, it also doesn't seem to take off as fast. And, like I said,, if you wiggle the bundled up wires on it while running the motor, it'll change speed a little, and even cut off.
As for the truck,,, It's going to be run with Road rage TRUCK tires on it. After about a lap or two, the tires really hook up pretty well,,, and with all that rolling mass,, it really keeps the speed up in the turns. :D

What compound and width foams are being used on the out door asphault? Double purple front and purple rear?
I've never used foam tires and would like to try a set.
One more question, anybody tried/used the clear chassis protective flim? The bottom of my car is starting to look pretty rough, really not the place I would choose to shave a few grams.
JimmyMac
08-18-2003, 07:57 PM
Never tried it, but I hear AE has a good protective film. People say it's works great.
As for Foams on asphalt... why ya wanna try that? Goin to Atlanta next weekend? :D For TC3? DoublePurple/Front, Purple/Rear. OR Purple/Front, Magenta/Rear. Either combo will work. As for size, 24, 26, and 28mm will work. 28 mm will rub on the camber link ball cups though. 30's might even fit in the Rear. If you mean for 1/12th, then Purple/Front and Pink/Rear.
Well I hovered a whole pack today outside. No crashes or nothing. I'm goin into my 2nd week with this Heli! Yipee!!! I did get nailed in the arm on my first pack though. Felt like I got whipped by a belt or something. That's what happens when you don't do your preflight inspection. One of the servo's was stuck so the heli took off backwards right into me! haha. I also took my first victim too. Some dragonfly came flying around. Guess he didn't like the heli. So he flew around it. Then went above the rotors and came down and..... well he can't fly no moe. :D

Nope, Atlanta is not even an option.
I just want to see what foams on a touring car is like. I've never been able to get all of the off power push out of my car with the brushless setup. It's better now and it is drivable, but it's still not right. If a set of foams will cure it, then I can at least feel what the car should do when I lift off throttle.

Actually, I think this "bump" is in front on the line,, but what ever,, if you raise your car up to 5mm ride height, it doesn't scrape on the ground.:D
Hmmm,,, 6.7 or so huh?? I geuss 6.4 is a little too low with a Monster?? My motors just don't seem to rev like yours but that thing does seem to have a little torque. I mean,, first time running stock out there and turned 15 laps. Ok,, they were slow ones,, but then again,, I'm running a heavier battery and a lot more motor than I do in spec. Geuss I need to work on the set-up some more,, run a few packs through it with different setups, ect.,,,
Hopefully, I'll be able to run the truck this coming weekend,, and by the way,, it's not X-ray,, it's my Offroad Spec truck lowered down with buggy shocks, and on road tires. Didn't want anyone complaining it was too light,,:D
Anyhow,, see you all out there soon,,, Anyone up for practice tomorrow afternoon?? I'm off again then too.

See you guys at the wood Sat. need to get the dust off this NTC3. Maybe if noone shows Glenn can show me how to run the races so they can all race and not have to mess with it, to give me something to do. Later Kevin Mac.

I have recently heard about the new track and i am so excited! can't wait to see it. i am posting this message (though it may be slightly unrelated) to inform anyone in the area about the new Triangle R/C Club (TRC). this is a forming club that is trying to recruit interested parties. We race all types of cars/trucks etc. We currently hold weekly meetings in Raleigh, though we would like to make it to the durham track more, and i'm sure we will do so once the new dirt track opens. I've heard of the sunday morning races, but currently due to availability most of our members are unable to attend these sunday races since they work. Anyway we hold our meetings Sunday nights at 7:00/7:30 in the parking lot behind Wendy's/Enterprise Car Rental in the shopping center on the corner of South Saunders Street and Tryon Road. we are inviting anyone interested and hope to see lots of people associated with all types of r/c vehicles and all levels of experience. if you have any comments or questions please email me.
thanks

Jeremy-Just a guess but you should not have to change the settings for the different voltage there! The charger will convert the voltage! Plus if you use a voltmeter here in the states you may have 110v at you house and 105v at the track and 110v at another place!

Hey man whats up??
keep us posted on how you like the racing over there and you may want to check with the base you are at as far as the voltage goes if you need an adapter or anything is the frequency the same ours is 60 HZ it may be 50 over there I am unsure how this may affect things so you may want to check it out also.
later man and have fun.
Oh and the TC3 runs REALLY GOOD!

Hey Jeremy what's up!! No need to worry about anything over there. Charge as normal. You are charging off of DC current not AC. If your power supply for some odd reason doesn't work right, then you can get an adapter to bump up the voltage to 110 or higher. But that's not a problem. freq is also 60hz... so don't even worry about that either. Let me know when you find the RC racing spots. If you get a change go to Torii Station Scuba Locker. Ask for Ron. He's my best friend. Tell him you are "Mike's" friend from NC (I'm only known as Jimmy to family and the RC community.) Anyways, have fun!! Hot and Humid huh!!! :D

Now that I got the slow steering sorted out on that buggy, wait till I figure out how to get it to not push so bad in the turns,,,,By the way,, my fastest laps with that thing wasn't all that far off of some of Josephs,,,2 or 3 seconds and all of that is having to slow down so much to get it to turn. And, my Monster buggy is up for sale,, 600 bucks, all you'll need is a receiver, battery, and of course, the transmitter of your own. There's over 100 in servos in that thing alone,, and if I can find them there's 2 extra 1/4 scales servos that'll go with it, along with some extra arms, diff gears. I have the same body on it that Jimmy Wilson has on his, but it's unpainted as of yet, and I also modified the roll cage to allow me to mount the rear wing that his is missing which is also new.

Then again,, I may have a new secret weapon that weekend depending on Glenn. Remember Glenn, there's over a grand in that thing,,,,,
Anyhow, see you out there in a bit as I'll stop by before work to set up the 'puter for Glenn.:D
I wish I could have made it out today.Sure was some nice weather for racing. Will be back next weekend though.Who was TQ in stock today and who won the main.

Ron, I did call! Why didn't you answer!!
Congrats to the winners Joseph and Greg for their wins today.
Thomas what's up! Greg TQ'd with 16 at 5:06. Then was Tim with 16 at 5:07, 3rd starting position was Jairo 16 5:07, 4th me 16 5:08, and I don't remember the rest. Greg won with 16 5:07, I came in 2nd with 16 5:08, 3rd Jairo and Tim 4th right on Jairo's bumper just hundreths of a second off. I was trying to chase down Greg the whole run while several seconds back Tim and Jairo battled back and forth. It was fun tight racing. I only got to run one qualifier and the mains since I had to work til 4:30pm. But I still had a blast. I think there were 8 people in the Amain who qualified with 16 laps.
Anyways, you coming out next weekend? Should be a blast! I'm looking to step up my game! hehe. Car needs a rebuild. It's been a month since I last touched it. Need to clean bearings, rebuild diff, lube oneway, and rebuild the shocks. Blah blahblah.
Oh yeah, Kenny, not sure if you read this.. but I want to throw your car on my setup station and set it up for you. I would like to help out.... :)
Well let me go. Getting late. L8Rz

Hopefully this will be the last work day on it and i can get to washing down the walls and floor. Carpet will be going in after the paint. Come on out and have some fun racing too.

Hey Ron, you gonna be there this Sat.? How about you Don?
Just a roll call for the spec class to see if there will be enough, might set Joseph up to run stock if no one is coming. Ron, you can run our TC-3 if it's just three of you and you still want to run
stock.
That was a fast A-main this week! Congrat's to Greg and to Joseph, sort of, he was running against his buddy on his first time ever on a track. He did well, tore the body up, but didn't break a thing all day!
Well, later on guy's......Hank and Joseph  :D

rodney---disassemble the bearings as usual. fill a container with some solvent and let them sit in it for a few minutes. then spray with some cleaner to flush them out, and after that, lube them.
glenn---did the lap counter work ok this past weekend? will remember to stay away from those wires next time.
just a reminder to those that will be helping with the dirt party next saturday. i will go by glenn's around 8 a.m. and be at the track hopefully no later than 8:30.:)

Ron, sorry I didn't come over. Had to go bathroom real bad after work haha. Then I passed out on the bed as it was raining (good sleeping weather!) Woke up at 11pm hehe. You working tomorrow? Maybe I'll stop by after you get home from work......
Anyways, I'll be there this weekend. This time I'll get to run all the qualifiers instead of just one. I might have to work in the morning. But not the afternoon. Blah blah blah.
Hey Ron, run the TC3 in Spec. No need to handicap yourself if the others don't show. Either that or run the...... secret weapon! :D
Oh yeah Hank... I'll give you my current setup at the track. Gonna print out some copies for me. So I'll print one out for you. I might have another setup to try later on. I also got my special upper deck/camber link mounts in from Honk Kong. Nice! They are made by Shooters and are sold at http://www.precisionrc.com/

Man,, there's 608!!! peices alone in just the tracks on this thing!!! And every one of them had to be put together by hand. Too small for tools to get hold of without bending them. Definatly a work in progress. Gonna try to figure out a way to mount my wireless camera in it without it looking too silly. Wonder what other kinds of motors I might be able to mount in it? 380's seem a little small,,
Anyhow,, going into work today and I'm gonna find out what's going on there. I was supposed to be off this Sat. afternoon, but with a guy quiting,, who knows whats gonna happen.:( There may be a good thing to this too,, as he's said that he wants to stiull work there but on the weekends only and that wouldpretty much give me Saturdays off,,, if the bosses go along with it. We'll see later on today.
Jimmy, next off day is Thursday. But if you wanna call, I usually get home about 9:15 or so, so 9:30 would be a good time to try. And if it keeps ringing, that means Jessica is probably on the internet again. I'll get her off for awhile when I get home.

I used to degrease my bearings in all my kits, not anymore. The small gain is not worth replaceing the bearings every few months. I talked to Matt Francis about this very thing in Ohio two years ago, that was one of the reasons I bought all new kits this past year.

Well, I got a whole bunch of new stuff to rebuild it, and hopefully next time, it'll stop it's insane spinning out deal it loves to do. Don, if you go with a Novak Super Rooster, you wont be unhappy. I used one in my Jugg and my Clods, it ran 2 17 turn singles in it without hurting it, and I even used it in my Super Hawaii boat with 2 550 size motors and 12 cells. Although, I wouldn't do that too often,,:) You could also go with the ??EVX?? they put in the E-Maxx's, only thing with that one is that you can safely run 2 battery packs and run 2 motors without it frying. But, it does cost more than the S.R.
Lets hope this storm just blows over and you all can have some fun racing this coming weekend instead of bailing out everything.:(

thank you glenn. i will shut down all but the very very bare necessities tomorrow evening or thursday morning due to the storm. they have us scheduled to work wednesday and will make determinations otherwise as conditions dictate. the way management is at my workplace, they would have us work up until two hours before the storm hits. if we get friday off as well, i will get with you about coming up and doing some things at the track before saturday.
ron zee---i had decided to get the EVX speedo because i do plan on putting two batteries in the USA-1. i am going to go with a smaller pinion to slow it down to compensate for the added power of two batteries versus one that the kit calls for. i did have two reversing speedos in it, and it was difficult to keep them in sync with each other. stripped a dogbone and axle. 4WS is a pain when it comes to making a sharp turn. i did that and said goodbye to the KC lights on the roll bar, and the mirrors.
kilruf---there is a small waterway behind my house that is perfect for running boats. the water works in this area dropped it down in anticipation of the storm. will take some pictures before and after the storm. a fishing rod and a big hook will get you back to shore if need be.:)
let's all pray for health and safety in the coming days.

KilRuf, thanks very much for the loan of the batteries Saturday.
Ok guys,
I learned something Saturday (Iknow you guys are laughing... it's ok). Anyway.... here's what I figured out. Batteries make a difference.
Yeah.... so what's new? Glad you asked!
It's not so much how good your batteries are, (but it's always good to have better batteries) it's how close are all the batteries you use. What I mean is, are all your batteries the same.
Here's why I say this. I have four batteries that I always use. I use them for testing, tuning and racing. All four are the same, old and tired, but the same.
I ran 16/5:09 with my batteries. Not real fast, but not slow either. I then used a battery that was better, and slowed down. Then for the main I used a "good" battery and was even slower. The slower run had a 18.6 and a couple of 18.8s.
But the "good" battery made too much horsepower for the setup that worked with my batteries. That little extra punch caused some wheel spin on corner exit.
So, all you guys that have one "killer" pack that you save for the main... just may be shooting yourself in the foot.
(Unless your car already has too much grip)
JimmyMac
09-16-2003, 08:28 PM
No problem Chance. Not to knock you here. But just adding my input. Throttle control is very key here. It's something that'll take time to master. But it's quite rewarding with faster lap times and smoother handling. But another note here is... You used a Brushless system. Battery voltage is very noticable in a Brushless system. You running Stock class in Sportsman mode felt the "huge" difference in torque. In a normal "brushed" motor the extra voltage is a huge plus for us. We don't have the torque of a Brushless system. And running a Monster Stock against the Novak Systems... every little bit helps. As I'm sure you know, for a Brushless in Sportsman mode, the extra voltage won't give you any more top speed at all since this mode is RPM limited. But it'll give you that rip!!
As for your 16 at 5:09, that's an awesome time. I wouldn't complain about it. It'll get you Amain for sure. For now... hehe.
Anyways, I'm done surfing. My RaySpeed Chassis isn't out yet. :( So I'm still waiting. Oh yeah, in Japan they ran the Japanese Expert Touring Nationals. 8 minute heats and mains!! They might have had a 10turn limit. Masami took all 3 triple Amains! Go Yokomo! Hara came in 2nd with his Team mate in 3rd racing the new HPI Pro4. 4th was Adachi (Rayspeed) with his Yokomo SD. 2 SD's in the Amain. 4 Pro4's. 2 Barracuda's. 1 Tamiya Evo3. 1 XRay.
Hey Glenn, can we race 8 minutes Stock?? hehe.... how about 6? :D

well guess what! i slowed down too! the motor was sooo powerfull that it drained my so-called best pack of batteries in ,like, three minutes!!! that's why he runs the type batteries that he does!
so this goes out to anyone borrowing ANYTHING from jimmy!! don't just use his batts or motors seperately....just use the whole car with everything in it! that way you won't get no surprises at the end of a race. 'cause his stuff's already use to the extra ponies.:D
sorry jimmy...i couldn't resist. (yokomo-mama rules)

Jimmy, I know you were just kidding about the time . We have to keep in line with Roar on the time because of people from other tracks coming to the Wood. They expect to run the same time in stock. Now 1/12 class runs 8 minutes. The 1/12 indoor carpet stock class will probably be a good class to run also. If i were you guys, i would be looking for a good 1/12 carpet car and some good 4 cell batteries. Now i've always said if you guys want to start another class get 5 guys to start it. If ya'll want to run 8 minutes with 1/10 scale we can call it something else like x stock or whatever. But i still have to keep the Roar stock class at 5 minutes unless they change it. What you guys should do as Roar members is vote on a time change through Roar for stock class, after all it makes sence because they keep coming out with new longer lasting batteries all the time. Why keep coming out with new batteries if you don't extend the run time. So contact Roar and ask them to consider your proposal, but do it as a group.
Rob, thanks for the offer. I think the floor will be the easy part to clean. The walls are the main reason i bought a washer and the siding on my home. I did get a good washer with 2400 psi. But like i said, thanks for the offer. If you want to come out and help though, i would be more than happy to work something out with you. You could bring your washer and we could do it faster. Our indoor classes will be: Spec,1/12 stock and mod, 1/10 stock and mod and whatever else you guys want to run. Truck class with rubber or foam tires would be a great class to run. It was our biggest class on the oval before we took it out. Those things will fly on carpet, just ask Ron. You guys that like off road don't need to worry, we can start a truck class if you want to. We can even put some portable jumps that can be put out and removed. Don't have to worry about pot holes! lol. Well i've run on long enough so see you guys at the track. I hope we all fair well through this storm, especially the folks on the coast. Batten down all the hatches cause she's a comin. I will pray for you all.

No, I went to Glenns and got a 4-40 rod to make a link,,, but forgot to check and see if it would fit the ball ends. Gues what?? they don't!! The things just slid right off the rod. So,,, went out to the shed,, and low and behold,, in an old box of stuff,, came across the correct size and shape and color link that I needed. I think it came off of an older Tamiya kit from way back,,, all I know is, when I race this car at a TCS race, it wont get DQ'ed for not having Tamiya parts on it.
Also,,, got another surprise for all you Spec racers out there. If you were wondering about me running the F1 in Spec, yeah, I might try it a time or two,,, but I now have another car to run in Spec, and this one would be legal to run even in ROAR touring classes. All I'll say about it right now is Jimmy Mac has a car that looks like this one,,,

Ron, I do or Tim? :D
Glenn, I also posted that opinion about runtime on another forum/board. It will be brought up to Roar and perhaps we'll get to vote on it. All I suggested was Roar up Stock Touring to 6 minutes. Also to allow 2 door Sedan/coupe bodies in TC Class (T2)as well.
Well I gotta work a full day Saturday. So if yall do get to race, I'll be late again. Maybe I'll get to run 1 qualifier and a main. Or try to bump up from Cmain to Bmain to Amain... hehe.
As for 8 minute class, you could get a Brushless 8 minute class goin.... That or one weekend add an enduro class. 30minute Amain. Sportsman mode. Fixed gearing. Of course you can be curtious and rotate turn marshalls. And run this class first.
Just some ideas.
Anywho, I'm off tomorrow. Saturday is the makeup day for work. Everyone be safe. Hope to see everyone Saturday.

I've never cared for a four door sedan as a race car. It just don't seem right. LM 900/675, GTP, GT1, GTS..... something that looks like a race car would be better.
Does it really make a difference on the local level? Sure, a Euro Truck is going to suck in the aero department, but it would be fun.

The carpeted jumps could be something to experiment with who knows you might be on to something all the hang time without the dirt :)
Glenn let me know when you need the help. I won't be around this weekend but I can work something out for next weekend or whenever I'll check the posts when I get back.

Chance, why don't you buy the Yokomo Euro Truck body! That would be cool to see running around the track. I'm trying to decide on which "other" body to try and run out there. I was thinking Enzo Ferrari. Or Infiniti G35 Coupe. Or something else. Hmmm but since you mentioned that Euro Truck... Do you think anyone would be pissed off if I made the Amain with that body?? hehe.
So Ron has a car that looks like my MiniZ huh.. hehe........

I'll be mad if you're pulling a trailer with it and make the A! Second thought, get the truck, but you gotta pull something with it,LOL. :D.
Well, hope I can make it Sat., dunno with the storm. I got one customer that clean's up for the city, and he said the last storm he had to work almost 24-7 to get the clean-up of the aftermath done. So that will pretty much decide for me what I'll be doing for the next few day's.
Hope everybody stay's safe, and I'll see you soon.

Sam's called to say he place would be closed by afternoon so if I wanted any hours today to go in at 9. So,, I did, and worked for an hour then they basically closed up. So now I sit here wondering if I'll ever get any paint back from Tim to do up these 3 bodies I got sitting here.
As for the Bug,, I was sorta leaning towards a "Herbie" theme for it. Whatcha think??

Herbie would look good sitting on a trailer being pulled by ....... Jimmy's truck!

Okay, for me at least, the storm wasn't bad. No damage here or to grams house which has tons of trees in the yard. So that's good. Hope everyone else made out safe and sound as well. I did see a house though with a huge tree leaning on it. Floading wasn't bad either, if any at all. I guess I'll see more of the town when I go to work tomorrow.
As for the truck, can I add a motor in the trailer as well?? All I'd need to do is Y split with 2 ESC's. The trailer diff would have a oneway so it wouldn't offer any resistance from pulling it around. Anyone got a spare TC3 laying around? :D Hmmmmmmm
Anyways, I'll catch yall L8Rz... been workin on Chris J's Barracuda. I figure I'll race it this weekend if I make it out there in time. I had to correct alot of things on it.. hehe.....

good morning eastern north carolina. we made it through the storm ok with no damage. lots of pine straw and a few limbs in the roadways. of all things, wally world here in new bern was open, along with slowes and books-a-million. we were without power for a few hours, but all is back on now in this area. this was one of those storms where you could sit out on the back porch and watch it go by. just wait nine months from now and see how many new r/c racers are brought into this world.:D hope everyone is ok and doing well. God spared us from the cat 5 and for that we should all be thankful. see you all at the track..
