What is the difference between these two motors. I know the x star says its a short stack, what does that mean??
Thanks

Good question, Tweeter. I'm hoping to see what the motor gurus say- I've always wanted to know too!
The Trinity X-Star ( I still have one ) is an old sealed endbell stock motor. It came along before rebuildable stocks.
The P2k is fully rebuildable, and is a newer motor.

But- what does the designation "short stack" mean? That's what I've been wanting to know. Does it have to do with laydown vs. standup brushes?
I beleive the "Short Stack" designation is for the laminations on the armature. Being a ''short stack'', i believe means there are less laminations.
I'm not sure...

Yes, it refers to those metal parts of the arm that are closest to the magnets. The more lamination are on it, the more torque it can make, but that also limits the motor's top end. A shortened stck(or one with sections removed, like the Greem Machine 3 or the old Reedy Rage & MVP, for example), reduces the field strength of the arm(as each section of an armature is an electromagnet), but doing so allows for a higher top end. It's all a balancing act, to get as much power & torque as possible but still have a good top end...:)
