the x-ray is a platform i've always had good luck with. but the mission just intrigues me. btw...is the mission carbon or s1?

see you at 8:00 in the a.m.;) (my word is my bond) but i got a hot date to see the new matix movie. (can you believe my WIFE asked me out)

how much damage is done to the car? will i need to make any special orders for parts....especially a one-way. do i need a body? are the cvd's metal or plastic? i know it's a lot of questions and i DO trust that the car is in good shape. i just want to know what to exspect(spelling?) before the first qual. who has spare parst in case (more like WHEN) i crash and break stuff?

ok,ok,ok...i'll hush! see you in tha' a.m.

btw..you know i plan on running mod right so i need to hook up with someone with a lathe...or just get me one.

thnx ~ TEAM YO MAMA!!!!!!!!!

It has a oneway, cvds are metal, rear sway bar. Body in racing shape minus a rear wing. Call Brad about parts for the car he has a bunch left over from Brian Leone. If not try KC in Archdale on 311 I think their open until 7pm tonight. The car has no receiver or ESC, but you knew that ,right? It has an 85 tooth spur on it now probably 48p. Any other questions I'll be at the track for a while then home later.

just wanted to say thanx to all the guys who helped out yesterday.(don't wanna leave noone out) don, brad...sometimes you two can be so helpful and giving that it's scary! the hybrid car finally let go! guess it had some unseen stress fractures.

JR..thanx for letting the car go. i've been wanting to see what's up with one of those chassis' for a long time! it is quite flexible. may be enough for the "wood" but way too much for durham.

brad is it possible to get a carbon plate chassis, some carbon front/ rear a-arms for pro 3? and i'd like to also get like some 4-6 degree castor blocks. i figured since i bought the car there, it's only proper to see you first for parts.....(did you here that!? - thought i heard somebody say X_RAY [with echo] lol. be blessed all!

Well, I'm sorry I missed it, but I cut part of my index finger at work Fri. and it's not feeling so hot right now. Actually, I shaved off part of my fingerprint on that finger,, OUCH!!!

Also, I found it hard to drive without all my fingers on the wheel. I did manage to run at Rosewood and now,, there is only a 1 lap difference in spec and stock. Turned 15 laps in both a heat race and the main. And yes, it was all Rosewood Spec class legal, even down to the X-pattern tires.

ANyhow, I hope to soon be back up in Durham running stock, lord knows I need the wheel time up there before all the other old farts running in the "masters" class show up.:D

See ya soon Don..

Oh,, am I reading this right?? you ran the heats and mains on Sat.??

JR, you only need one if first, you run sidebyside or saddle packs. They are not for stick packs. Also, it's not a necessity right away. I normally don't run one. But yesterday was the first time I ran one since the Nicad days. Best work on the car first and worry about the other stuff later. You try a TC3 yet? Maybe less work for ya! ;)

Well congrats to Mike D for the Mod win. Wish I ran it. But I had no setup for Mod yet. Good run Chris C and Steve B. If it weren't for a few problems, I think Steve would have gave Mike a hard time.

Stock was fun and competitive. 1st round had me guessing for a gear ratio and slight setup changes. 2nd round I did better and TQ'd. Ortiz was only 1 second off! 3rd round I took 4 seconds off my TQ run. The main had John P pressuring me for a few laps until I got a lapped car between us. Then I was able to get a confortable lead. All in all I had fun. Lucky to get the car hooked up. I'll be looking forward to the next electric race there in 2 weeks!

Thanks Don and Brad for everything. Enjoyed it. Catch yall soon.

Both are good cars! I prefer the Losi G+! But you need to get he car that has the best parts availiblity for you if that is not a concern then get the Losi!

Both cars can win on any given day!

Also do you prefer shaft drive or belt drive? The Losi's sealed drivetrain is the best! I have ran mine about 30 packs and no dirty in the belt or gears or anywhere! I even rebuilt the diff because I thought I was running it way to loose! But after taking the diff out I was upset... IT DIDN'T NEED A REBUILD! All that work and didn't need it!! It looked just like it did the night I built it!

ZOO I thank nprsesme is right get a car that you can get parts for easy if you don't want to have spare parts in your box. the tc3 is the easyed to get parts for. The xxxs looks like the best all around car but a little harder to get parts for. There are other cars out there but if you don't have alot of exp then you might have a hard time getting it set up so good luck with what ever car you get.

I dunno, my Yokomo was pretty consistant Saturday! :p ;) But I don't suggest in you getting a Yokomo like mine. All parts are mail order from either California or Japan. Of course I don't care because I buy all my stuff from mail order. I have 2 Yokomo's and enough spare parts that I don't have to worry. Plus orderin from Japan is cheaper. Blah blah blah. So I suggest to you to get either a TC3 or XXX-S G+. Both are great. Both are consistant. Both win all the time all over the world. I've owned both and each have their plus'es and minus'es. Both require less maintance. And blah blah blah. If you race Durham... TC3 parts are or should be readily available. If you race Goldsboro/Rosewood... both XXX-S and TC3 parts should be available. All in all.... like what's been said... it's all personal preference. Pick the one you think looks best and go from there. Take Petey (Nomac) for example.... he goes against conventional wisdom and gets a Pro3! :p hehe.. But seriously... you can't go wrong with either car.

Zoo york- The Losi is super easy to build and maintain, which is what I race and honestly do pretty well with it. If you race mostly stock though, I would get a TC3, even though I'm a Losi guy. The shaft will not drive faster, just have alot more instantaneous accelereation, but not overall speed. Either one will work for you. I don't know who you are so please don't take this personally, but if you wreck alot, get the AE, the Losi is a more fragile car.

JR in NC- You have mail regarding your PM to me.

Too bad RPM hasn't made a wide front bumper for the Losi yet,, or Buds with the rear nerfbars,, these additions go a LONG way in keeping your car together in a wreck. But, as all of you know,, my TC3 racer car has been going almost 2 years with no real hassles other than things I broke. The diffs haven't even had to be rebuilt yet. And I got it used!:D

now i'm surfing for some set-ups! i may just try one of my old pro setups. they're mainly for foams but w.t.hk!

jr...thanks again for savin the car for me. look forward to trying it in durham(or rosewood) or who ever's the dryest.

and speaking of cars... don, I AM COMING TO REPAIR THAT TC3!!! ok? the car had potential but : 1.took a lot of work to undo the "work" already done to it. 2.had NO practice with that chassis or the lay-out. and 3. i can't tune a tc3 for the lifestyle of a millionare!

but....I WILL BE BACK TEAM YO MAMA!!!! ~ OUWT

Don, are you gonna change the layout any? I think it needs to be more technical instead of a bunch of 180 turns and short straights. Just curious. Been awhile since you changed it.

Ron, actually the new XXX-S G+ has a wide bumper. Just not like the RPM one for the TC3. They just need to make one for the Yokomo!

Hey Petey... just wait for the new HPI to come out. I'm sure it'll be a winner! I would be tempted to buy it just to see what's its all about. Been I'll stick with my roots and keep the Yokomos. hehe

Well Don finally made a smart call and combined the Nitro and Electric races. So now we should have good turnouts and plenty of races since we Electric guys don't get rained out as much. :p

But it would be cool to race in the rain. It's just us Stateside folk are spoiled in not racing in the rain. Nascar... no rain.... Babies! Gotta be like F-1 and just toss on the rain tires!! I like European Electric Touring Classes because they race in the rain. Only problem is your car would rust out... bearings... cvd's.. screws... etc.

Oh well... we can dream haha. Hey... at least the new LRP Quantum Comp2 is water proof!

Well catch yall L8Rz....

Anthony, I don't know if you know this or not. Or if Novak told you already... but is your M8 an older one? I've heard problems with older M8's and the Novak Switch. Glitching problems that is. I dunno. Just something to consider if they haven't asked already. I remember reading this somewhere not too long ago. The radio had to be sent to Novak to get it to work right with the Switch. Good thing I didn't get the Switch when I had my M8 because I got mine in 97. That was back in the day when you had to "program" the ABS into the radio the secret way haha.

Virginia On/Off Road Racing Assoc (VORRA) is proud to host the 2003
ROAR Region 2 1/8th Scale Regional race on Oct 4 & 5 2003 in beautiful Richmond, Va. Rain date is Oct 11 & 12.

Classes to be offered:
1/8 open- Region 2
1/8 novice- Region 2
1/10 235mm sedan 2wd- Region 2
1/10 235mm open 4wd- Region 2
Super Regional 1/8 Open- Region 1, Region 2, Region 3

The Super Regional will be open to ALL Region 1, Region 2 & Region 3 driver's. Talk about bragging rights!!!!! The Super Regional is 1/8 open cars only. Anyone from either region can run in it, but members of Region 2 can only run EITHER the Super OR the Region 2 class. If you run in the Region 2 Open class, you can't run in the Super Regional class.

Here's the link for the flyer and entry form. It's in PDF format, so all you have to do is type in the info, print it, & mail it. We're still working on some hotel deals (that's why it took so long to get posted). Hopefully they will be resolved soon (and posted), but if you can't wait we can provide a list of area hotels.

Remember, the SUPER Regional class is for Reg 1, Reg 2, & Reg 3 drivers. Pass the word and I hope to see you there!!!!!!!!

Hey guys whats up. I got a stupid question I need help with. I have necer used a front one way until now. I just put one in the losi XXX S. Question is do I have it in right. When I have the car on the stand, and I move a tire in the forward direction it turns the spur gear. When I roll a front tire in the reverse direction it spins freely and does not engage the spur. This seems like the right way only it is in the opposite way from what the instructions suggested. Help please. Later Kevin Mac.

Sorry to anyone who thought I may have been a little aggresive in my tone of voice when someone was on my channel. It's just that a $500 toy was going ballistically out of control, lol. I later found who it was in the pits, and he apologized, it was there first racing experience and may not have known better, so I GUESS it's halfway exeptable, lol. are there any results from sunday's "free for all" race? what were some of the GOOD mod times? how many laps was tq? were the "A" final results faster than pole?

JimmyMac
06-23-2003, 11:12 PM
Well Sunday times won't match National times because we didn't run the last part of the track (chicane area). So you may look to add around another sec to lap times. I posted some 22 sec lap times in Stock Class. For Mod... I believe Andrew ran some 20's? I kept hearing alot of 21's though. But I think I saw some 20's on the time sheet. I was horrible in Mod and posted some 22's. Sucks to think my Stock car was faster than my Mod. haha. But then again, I ran the same car and it was awesome in Stock Class, just sucked in Mod.

I had another bad luck weekend though. Fried another ESC! This time in Mod Class. My old trusty Tekin G10 is now gone. I broke 3 dog bones up front. I lost my oneway drive cup twice that day but found them both times. I ended up dropping out of Mod (since I didn't have car anymore with the ESC gone.)

I ran Chris J's Barracuda in the Stock Main. Car handled pretty good too. Only problem was it was glitching badly at the end of the straight and sometimes goin in the fast chicane area. So I ended up 4th. I think I know why his car was glitching. Not his radio. Not his motor. Not his receiver. I ran my radio, my receiver, my motor, and my battery in his car. I didn't have any trouble with these items at all in my car. But I did when it was in his. I think it's his cheap :p Hitec Digital Servo coupled with this Novak Cyclone TC. I think the digital servo is drawing more than the ESC puts out under full throttle. Digital servos are known to be huge current drawers. And the Cyclone TC is not exactly new. So it may not meet the demands of this servo under these conditions. Chris J is suppose to do a test with a standard servo. Plus I'm gonna let him borrow my good non-digital servo for the National. I won't get into the full story. But I think we may have his situation solved.

Blah blah blah. Don, you did a great job with the Nationals Layout. Sorry I had to switch to Stock Touring for the Nats. But I don't want to risk frying another ESC until I get things right. But I will be running Mod 1/12th at the Nats. Didn't see my name under there yet. Not sure if Brad told you.

Oh yeah Anthony, I gave John P your Losi body. I hope to have my Protoform one in tomorrow. Catch you at the Nats.

If this is wrong forum-please let me know:( I am trying to charge a receiver pak with a Reedy Quasar Pro. Setting .9 charge rate, 4.0 discarge rate. It is a 1200 MAH NiMh pak. It only goes to 697 on charge. It shows 6.054 V and 8.37 time. Is that OK? I have never fully understood the read out on this charger and the instructions don't help much. Should the charge be near the 1200 Mah? Thanks for any help. I can't get to Durham but am trying to run at VaBeach on Sunday and need to get this fixed.

Thank you Don for all your hard work you put on a good show:)

Thank you Brad for that mindblowing horsepower:)

Had a fun hanging with Mike and Kieth from vig beach got to talk to a lot of the pro drivers and I learned a little.

Braden I well get those springs from you next time I see you.

kevin mac I put your motor in my car and don was playing with it after the race with no glitching so it has to be somthing about the car so I am going to try that motor and speed control in my car next and see what happens.

Don get your car ready so we can go to the wood this weekend and have a little fun.

Had fun at the Nationals. I would like everyone to stand and give Don a big round of applause for the great job he did this past week. The races ran smooth and on schedule. I would also like to thank Brad for all he does for Team Mindblown. I really think this guy has a bright future in the R/C Motor building industry. He is dedicated and loves the sport of racing so I know he will only continue to improve. Thanks for the HP, Brad. I wish that I could have represented Mindblown better than I did, but blaming poor performance on glitches is not my style. Time to retire the Airtronics Caliber 3PS. Which radios have given you guys the least amount of problems? I have heard so many horror stories about the M8 and the Novak switch, I am gun shy to purchase something that does not work well. I am leaning toward the M8 with standard module and crystals. What do you guys think?

my hitec lynx 3d with the module and novak xxtra reciever does well and the newer ones are more compact and probaly lighter plus they cost a little less. Airtronics also has a new would with dialble freqs I believe.

C. Cash and other racers.
Don't go selling off your radio equipment because of glitching at the track.
Mark Dawson may have found a solution to the problems.
Horizon Hobbies sells these RF filters that seem to cure the radio problems. They snap on over your small wire leds.
I had a problem Saturday in qualifing. In practice after the racing, I was the only car on the track and still had the problem.
It was at the upper left section of the track by the skateboard park and by the 180's by the scoring stand.
Mark called Horizon to tell them about the problem and they sent these filters to the track.
He fixed 6 out of 6 glitching problems.
Ask Don Hill about it.
He should know about it.

Hope this helps.

hey jimmy...when's the cleveland race?? that should give me plenty of time to get ready. spent a lot of time and money all on the wrong things (money - pro3) ( time - darrel manning). this year's nat's was supposed to be the biggest rc race in my 18 years doing this! and look what happens.... i think i made a grand total of 12 laps in all the days i tried to run.

and nada!!! thanks to all the guys who helped me to keep diggin in and not quit. but i guess the well can only go so deep! i knew the $$$ would be tight but all my friends were there and i was already paid up.

but believe you me!!! something like that will NEVER happen again!!! i WILL have my $h!~ totally together. not half-a**in around and definately not waiting on darrel for support! he's a good guy and all but....

As for Cleveland... I dunno if you can make it. Why? Well seeing as you are tied up with family and all.... Cleveland is Thanksgiving weekend. Meaning... you'll have to skip Thanksgiving if you want to go to this race! Me? No family to really worry about anymore (as far as Thanksgiving goes.) So I'm free. Plus my best friends live in Ohio. Not to mention I lived there for like 3 years. So I'd have someone to see.

Anyways, I think alot of people are burnt out right now. They justs need a break. I'm not sure if it was the racing or racing in the heat for sooo long. That or not doin as good as they wished. I dunno. For me it was mainly the heat. Sure I had bad luck, but hell I'm still having bad luck and I keep racing. But the heat was a killer for me. I did enjoy it though. I got to meet alot of people. Plus a few recognized me from Snowbirds. So I thought that was cool. (that's one reason why I like to stick with one paint job.... :D )

Well all we have now to worry about are club races (for electric guys). Maybe now the other guys will come back out of hiding and show up for racing. I'll be back out sometime so catch yall then.

The day started with fast times being in the mid to high 20's. After fine tuning, the fastest times of the day were in the high to low 18's compliments of Frank Killam on a modified version of the electric nationals track. The new track layout features a sweeper combined with a "J" on the far end, a short shoot, 180 degree left, S turn, another short shoot, a keyhole and a modified chicane on the end closest to the spectator stand. There is plenty of room, it appears, to pass and for sure enough room to really ring the fast guys out. As many as 3 cars went side to side today through the old double chicane section. Now a short shoot, this section proves to be one of the most exciting as drivers really get on the pipe coming out of the "J" entering the 180 with plenty of momentum. By far the most popular car, The FG Racing competion model. It features dual hydralics for the front disk brakes, carbon shock towers, polished aluminum suspension arms, Aluminum bulkheads and many other bonus "go fast and look good" components. Stay tuned each day for my racing coverage right here on this forum. If you can come out and watch, i highly suggest you do. This will for sure expose you to a new side of 1/5 scale racing you never really noticed before. Until tomorrow, Brad

07-23-2003, 08:58 PM
Tom, if you would have asked around and done your homework right, you would have figured out that the base models were in the back of the pack buddy. Everyone i talked to throughout the weekend stated that yes, they are faster in a straight line but way too fragile for competition driving. Most guys stated that they started with base models but found out that they had to upgrade to competition level parts(aluminum arms, etc, etc) to even try to stay up front. The whole weekend was dominated by FG competition models and they even swept the top spots. So, with that being said, base line sucks ;-) lol Anyways, WHERE IS EVERYONE????

Thanks Brad for the props. Got a hard winter of racing to prepare for. Team Hyperdrive huh?? They never responded to my email about sponsorship when i asked about you driving for them. Guess they are like me and have very little time anymore to check mail. Anyways, thanks again for the props, looking forward to the worlds for sure ;)

Sounds good to me Mark.Bring the 1/12th scale also.Hey Brad, if you call Hyperdrive and ask for Barry, he'll talk to ya.Also do you have any cobalts left?Gonna go up to zmaxx in aug. for that $600. drag race.Gotta find a car first. If you need the number to hyperdrive its 931 364 7673.They might be interested in talkiing to you about carrying some cars and i know Barry can hook you up on so keyence speedos.

Brad, sorry,no cobalts. One of my 6 singles should be plenty fast. Cobalts are great off the line but unless you have the motor tuned right it takes a while for a 6 or 7 to spool up because its under so much intense magnetic pressure. I might give Barry a call and talk but right now i just don't have the time. Lets see, i have cleveland, the Birds and the worlds to prepare for in the next few months. You need to get your oval buddies down to the track and get an oval class going, we're waiting ;) Anyways, back to the lab. See ya!

The next two weeks at RC Speedway are important for the future of the track. We will need to draw 35 entries or more to continue the weekly schedule we are running now. Thanks to all those who do all they can by showing up as often as you do.

Guys, This is a serious time. If you ever cared one drop about the speedway you'll come together and support us at this time. What the heck happened to the group from chapel hill??? You guys used to come out in numbers and support one qualifier and a main every other week! Don has spent countless amounts of money and time to provide us one of the finest facilitys around and everyone vanishes! Knock the dust off your cars and GO RACE! If you drive for Mindblown you should already know your priorities. Shame on you if you don't. Please guys, i beg you, pull together and show us some support these next few weeks. :( Its all we ask. So please come out and support the track

You are there every single time we race and without guys like you we wouldn't exist. You can't drive a lick :p j/k but you sure promote Mindblown and RC Speedway every way you can. For that i thank you. Brad

Wish I could make it but gotta work the next 3 weekends!

But truly this is a bad time of year to try to get ppl to race! After the nats the regionals the next weekend and now the mod nats (off-road) my bank account is looking a littel thin plus there are other things ppl like to do other than race! After most guys ran week-in and week-out before teh nats they are prob.. burned out(I know I am) and I haven't been able to race for 3 weeks and still not feeling the itch ( maybe that is because I know I can't cause of work)

But I hope that everyone that can be there will to support the track and Don!

Ok guys i'm game.Been with since the first race there and i'll be there running again.Got to be honest, havent been to rosewood yet but this track is awsome. The people I race with,Don cant say enough about you other than your great,Brad we had our differences in the begining but i think we both put them aside.Imagine if we could work together? But I've had some finacial problems for awhile getting laid off and stuff.Sorry about not being there but i'll be darned if i'm not gonna be there we you need it most.Went to zmaxx today and wouldnt even call that place a track more less a hobby shop:( .So it bothers me to think of not running there with Don and the rest of you guys so i'm in.
p.s i still gotta get Jairo and Jimmy back.Havent beat them with the Losi yet.But they dont want me to bring the Tc3 back out:rolleyes: .
L8r & see you tomorrow

Thanks for the track support, it means alot. We'll talk more tomorrow. I happen to have a mod motor ready for you if you want it. Its a 6x1. Should be plenty for 132 feet. ;) Anyways, talk to you in the morning. See ya! Brad D.

Well, I know it's lame but that work thing has really put a damper on my racing time. You know how much I just like running out there and at Rosewood, but this stupid Sam's club just won't do me right. But, as of right now, the 10th is open for me to come and play. Any others gonna be out running electric? Also,, Jimmy Mac and me are trying to get a F1/brushless combo class going,,, anyone else game??

Well sorry I didn't make it out this weekend. I was up in Maryland for the TCS race. Read Rosewood for results.

As for Durham, it is my opinion that maybe you should switch back to every 2 weeks for running races until you can build up a racer base again. Chapel Hill was successful because 1. It was in an excellent location where it was exposed to more "non" RC people. 2. Anybody could race with just about any car. And just about all classes were supported. 3. ROAR membership wasn't required at the time (when it became required.. people started ti dropped off.) 4. Park your car.. pull up a chair... and chat with everyone! :D This just reminds me of Hobbytown races in Virginia were people always complained but always showed up anyways.

How about cutting the track in half for electrics? This will solve some issues and make it more fun to drive. Most of the tracks run by clubs are no-where this big. Another thing, Cancel the rest of the Big races for the year. It leads to racer burn out. Especially if you have to pay a high entry fee and/or race multiple days. There were just tooo many at the start of the season. Maybe start a new points series for every other week (or every month) like last year. Not every week. And don't split up race weekends between Nitro and Electrics. Just keep it Nitro/Electrics... or better yet... RC Onroad racing weekend.

Hmmm sorry, just thinking out loud of what we could do to get things back up like they were. Durham is a very nice track. Don is willing to help out anyone he can in any way possible. Brad does his best with the shop along with his "help". ;) Mark and everyone else does a great job of supporting the track. It's just time now to reorganize things and get back on track. Any suggestions or idea's?

I guess I should head out. So talk to yall later on. Gonna go shower then off to bed!

PS. As for F201 class. I really don't care too much for it anymore. I WILL be getting one soon. But only for the TCS next year in March. However, you'll probably be seeing me at the track with it testing out setups and new parts. It was a fun class to watch and the cars look liked they handled great at the TCS!

Hey Ron come on out this Sunday. We only had six cars in stock touring and 0 mods:( .Mark Painter has got me hooked on 1/12th mod.Shoot after running that 1/12th then having to run the stock touring that was kinda wack.Brad i see you point:D .Stock sucks.:p Oh by the way Don shouldnt i have gotten an extra lap or something fo doing a wheelie down the whole back stretch, then setting the car back on all fours to make it through the tear drop without wrecking? j/k.Anyways had a blast and am looking forward to this weekend.Brad see if you can still get those rear arms for the losi for me.I was gonna call brandon m, but lost the number:confused: .Well gotta go see the boss b4 i get grounded.Holla at you guys l8r.Brad
