SuperBrain 959 chargers are known to have problems. Try placing a fan next to it (blowing on the charger duh). This might solve some of your problems.

Well the new guy starts in a few days, so maybe this means I'll get some time off again on the weekends. I got this Sunday off, but it seems I'll be racing at the Wood seeing as I "work" there. (Actually, I love messing around with the 'puter and messing around on the PA!)
Anyhow,, next time I come there, I'll bring the F-1 and my Sherman Tank. Heavy thing it is too. Not very quick but it seems to have a lot of torque to manuver around.
See you all soon!!

hey yall, i have an opportunity to make a little trade/purchase here...
first i need to know the differences in the standard TC3, the TC3 racer, and the factory team. and second, this guy wants to trade me a TC3 racer and a factory team t3 (both stock) for all my micro stuff... i want about 225 for all of it, would this be a good deal?
oh, and they are both rolling chassis only as far as i know.
thanks,

There's the racer, then the team, then the Factory team TC3's. The racer is an excellent starting point, the team has a few bits of eye candy on it, and the Factory team has a lot of eye candy on it. The most useful is the threaded shock bodies. Both team ones come with alum CVD's, but I've seen them bend pretty easily in crashes, and the stock composite ones seem to last forever. My TC3 is almost 3 years lod, it's a racer, and it's still running strong. Still using the clip spacers on my shocks, plastic battery strap, in fact other than the IRS CVD's, it's still pretty much box stock. Only upgrade I am really thinking about for it is maybe the threaded shock bodies, seeing as mine all need rebuilding anyhow.
I don't know what kind of mini stuff you have, but if you figure about 100 for each of his cars, your only about 25 bucks difference between you. If he's going to be giving you any spare parts in the deal, that's also worth money and needs to be factored in. As for me, it sounds ok, as long as both of the cars your getting aren't trashed up or missing things on them.

Oct 4,11,18 and 25 is Combined Electric and Nitro On Road Classes
Yes that's right, we are switching to SATURDAY'S starting Oct 4th.
Final prep work is set to have dirt track up and running by the MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER.
Thanks for your support.
Dirt track will be set up as a "loose and dry". It will NOT be a "clay blue groove" type. Yes that's right TOM, "just a big pile of dirt" to race on.

Don,
Spec F1 sounds great as long as we are talking just motors, tires and batteries, I like how mine looks and runs with my Eagle chassis and since it is heavier than stock it would not be a great advantage except maybe for cooling. What motor are you thinking , a spec 19 turn? As far as electric classes for on road do we have to run a touring in mod or can we run any electric now? Just wondering because I dont have a touring right now but have something I want to run on road. I should be out this Sat cant wait to get there. I wont have the f1 thought have to get the lightweight diffs for it.
Good news on the dirt.

My suggestion is to run the F-1 class using the TCS rules already out there except for the motors. Only Tamiya hop-ups, and tires made for the 201 chassis which are not slicks, and for a motor, might I suggest the Spec motors. With better batteries, these 21 turns will really fly. Going too fast with these cars is something I really don't want to do. It'll wear out the tires too fast, and those arms hang way out there. Then again, if the whole class ran the motors they come with,, yeah it might not go fast, but then all the cars would be the same and it would come down to set-up and driving ability, not who knows more motor tech. Can't do too much to a closed endbell motor. And, soon there is going to be available a new motor for these cars from Tamiya itself, they're going to unveil it at the TCS nationals.
The closer you run the class to the TCS rules, the easier it'll be to submit your track to Tamiya for a TCS race next year. Jimmy and Tim can tell you, they're strict on the rules.
Ron Zee
09-30-2003, 10:06 AM
This is from the Tamiya site:
Motor Rules
The 23turn spec Tamiya motor can be taken apart so that the comm can be cut. Timing on the motor may not be adjusted. The armature may NOT be replaced or substituted. Brushes and springs may be replaced by aftermarket types. Be aware, the 23turn Tamiya spec motor comes equipped with lay down brushes.
GT-2 will be using a spec Sport Turned Mabuchi motor. Each competitor in the GT-2 class will be allowed to purchase a maximum of three motors for practice, qualifying and racing. These motors will be available at the event for $10.00 each. Manage your three motors accordingly.
F-1 will be using the same Tamiya spec 23turn motor as the one being used in GT-1. This will be a new motor introduced at the North American Finals. These motors must be purchased at the event and will sell for $20.00 each. Each competitor in the F-1 class will be allowed to purchase a maximum of two motors for the race weekend. These two motors may be used for practice and for qualifying and racing. (Manage your two motors accordingly) These motors must be used for qualifying and racing.
The same motor rules apply as in GT-1

Ron,
I know that Tamiya is very strict for TCS but I think for the club racing let people run the mods they want just spec motor, tires and battery. That way people that have already done the mods dont have to put the cars back together to stock. I really like the way my eagle chassis looks but I dont think after running it stock and mod that it makes much difference except for cooling.
One things for sure with the stock gear set that is a really long straight:D

does anyone know how good LRP is with customer service? a buddy of mine has a losi XXX-T with a 11 turn and a LRP quantum pro reverse ESC and we were running it the other day and the speed control came apart (we werent really running it that hard either) like the shell snapped apart and it cut off, so we put it back together, and a few seconds later, it came apart again, only this time when it turned off, you could smell it.... and part of its all melted, needless to say, fried. he did register it, but its out of their 90 day warantee thing, so i was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do?

You can call them or just send it back with a letter stateing what happened and that if the repair is going to cost more than buying a new one not to fix it. LRP is a great company as far as customer ser. they will work with you.
Tell your friend that with LRP (or any for that matter) esc and recievers to put a small strip of tape around the case where the two snap together. I think LRP even sends this in the box with there ESC's looks like just a sticker sheet but if you read the instructions they tell ya what it is for.
Hope this helps.

skunk- you are looking between 35 and 60 dollars for new speedo, i just sent two of them off, I wasn't impressed with LRP's willingness, but at least you only pay 35 for a brand new one. I personally think it should be called a 90 day warraty, not that crap about publishing "limited lifetime", but i guess it makes sales and then later you find out.
I will never buy another novak product again after the way I was treated by tyree phillips at the nats. i had a millenium fry on me, no shorts, just started smoking in the middle of a charge. I asked him to look at it for me, and he looked at me and said "well I guess your just out of luck, nothing I can do for ya". I wasn't asking him for a new one, but at least he could have offered to peak my battery for me. He didn't show an ounce of care, but that's ok, I just buy blue from now on.

customer service is a thing of the past my friends, no longer do companies go that little bit extra to do right by the customer. Whether its R/C car stuff or the local contractor working on your house. Times have definatly changed from when people would stay late to finish a job that could be done with a little more time. Now,, when the clock hits 5, it's out the door,, finish it up tomorrow.
They used to be called service stations. A guy would come out to your car and ask what type and how much gas you wanted. He'd lift the hood and check the oil. Once the guys would even check your air pressure in your tires. Now you go and get gas and that's it. Hopefully you wont have to call a tow truck,, 'cause if its dark out,, now you get to pay more for "Night charges".
Yes there are still some places that due the "customer service" thing, but it seems it's getting harder to find them.
On a positive note,, when I drove my car in some water:eek: (no I didn't tell them that!) LRP (Associated!) replaced my Sport with no hassles. Is that ESC rated for an 11 turn??
Where's Tekin when you need 'em???

on a happier note, i get my TC3 on monday!!!:) which makes me very happy, and i also got a 3300 pack with 4 runs on it today from a guy that used to race oval in Johnson City TN. steph has her MX-3, so we have her steering rates adjusted properly now, and she is doing really well with the two road cone track in the street. i will be home to Race on the 25th, and everything should be set to factory settings, and if anyone has some set up tips, i will be more than glad to listen, i mean, im sure everyone has their little "tweak" of the setup, so ill take input from everyone that has one of these:)
brad, how much can you get me a Monster Stock Pro for? cause i think i will be needing one of these at that point in time. it also is comming with one body, but im not sure of the condition, hopefully it will be better than my Red civic which is now duct taped on the front.... anyways, yall have fun and ill let ya know what happens with the LRP.

I just found it odd that he offered no assistance in making sure the battery I was charging, or any other batts for the weekend didn't need charged, considering I looked over and there were 3 chargers on his pit table and one had a battery charging on it. He didn't know that I had a T30 in the box, lol. Oh well, it's in the past, I just felt it was a little innapropriate since he was representing a company. Not trying to insult him as a person, I'm just saying it didn't look good toward Novak in my eyes, I guess it's just opinion.

Mark,
The layout is great, Brad and I went out there today and ran my f201 and optima. The f201 was great and held up awesome to some hard hits , but as Brad will attest I am no Michael Schumacher and finally managed to break a front arm but this was at full speed coming off the main straight I nailed the barrier and I doubt that there are many cars that could have survived that. It is an awesome car everyone ought to get one!:D The dirt track looks like it is going to be a great size though Brad and I were discussing how hard it might be to slip a dirt oval in there around the outside.
See ya,

Sunday?? I hope so.
Hey I got one of those F-1's too. We're going to be running them here in Rosewood using Spec motors and batteries to try and keep the costs down. Stock tires wear pretty fast but it handles great if you disconnect the front "sway bar". So far theres 5 or so guys around here with them, I know for sure Jimmy Mac and Tim have one along with me. I put the "high speed "gear set in it and it runs pretty decently with the setup I mentioned. Next thing I have to get will be either the A compound tires or some other kind that'll live on asphalt longer. We're going to try to follow the TCS rules as much as possible with this class, with right now the only things different are the motors, and tires. Only other hop-ups have to be Tamiya TCS rules legal. We're sorta settling on the Spec batteries cause there only 20 bucks or so.
Well, if you do go back to Sundays,, I'll be able to come again more often than I willl if you stay running on Saturday.
tarheelquality
10-22-2003, 12:20 PM
Ron,
I have the PIT tires on mine and there is no comparison to the stock tires. Great grip and less wear after 5 packs then after one with the stock tires. I still dont like the having to go with TCS rules but since I know I wont be going to Rosewood any time soon I guess it dosen't matter. I like the idea of a spec motor and battery though anything to save wear, tear and money. Hope things go well down there.
BTW I am trying to get a set of the new reinforced lower arms for mine though nobody has them in stock. If I can find some I will let you know how they do.

Skunk, I'm sure i can pull together a used stock motor for you. The MVP's are $20 if you want one. That money will be returned to Don to cover the cost for them from the NATS so its a great buy. That 11x3 you have will need to retuned for the new layout to get it to spool up a little quicker. For stock with a MVP you should run in the mid 6's overall on your gear ratio.

DO NOT RUN A GREEN MACHINE IN A TRUCK! I have raced off-road for almost 4 yrs and trust me that motor will fry in a truck. I have seen lots of them burnt to a crisp when they first came out. They are ok in a buggy but for some reason they don't like the truck. LOL
Get a P2K2 or a monster stk. Both are great motors! But I did win the regionals last year with a Trinity Blue endbell handout motor.
In off-road motors and batteries are not as big a deal as in on-road, set-up and driven skills are.

Well, since nobody asked my opinion i decided to throw it in the pot. Stay the crap AWAY from the narrow powerband motors like the monster or GM3. What will i be tuning for offroad you might ask? And yes, they are the S**T, I know first hand. Those Core stocks are also but you have to find the sweet spot with your gearing. You can't gear them like an Epic motor, it just won't work. They like a few less teeth on the pinion usually. But like i said, i'll be glad to take those Cores off your hands.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this past week Mindblown won its first ever national title by destroying a long standing (4 years) national speed record in N-1 mono boat racing at the 2003 L.A straightaways! I'm proud to say the old record was smashed by over 6 mph and that we beat out the fastest factory team in the nation (Rum runner racing) in boats to bring the title home! The boat was owned and piloted by Wilmer Oxidean of California. Great job Wilmer!!

Anybody have an idea about what tires would work good on this track for 4wheel drive? I want to order some this week.
C.Cash
11-19-2003, 08:56 AM
I ran a soft step pin last weekend and it worked fairly well. Proline offers a buggy step pin for the rear but you might have to custom make some for the front. You might want to try a Holeshot front even though it is a packed surface tire.

Thanks Chris,
Since I am running a Turbo Optima I will probaly buy 2 sets of rears, finding narrow fronts wheels for it might be difficult these days, but HPI super size wheels are perfect for fullsize tires for it.
Now is there anyone in the area that keeps offroad tires in stock or will I have to order them? It has been a while since I went to any shops around here and I wasn't paying attention to offroad anyway.

You have a Turbo Optima? That is so cool. That was the first real R/C car I owned back in 1989. Does it have the original chain drive or are you running the belt conversion from Kyosho. That is a vintage R/C car that would look nice sitting on my shelf. Would you like to part with it? I think 2 wheel drive tires will fit the front and rear. Are you interested in a trade? I have a Losi XXCR and a LXT truck that I would trade for the Kyosho. Is it possible to send me a picture of the classic buggy? Let me know.:D
KanaiDude
11-20-2003, 09:46 AM
Ahhh the Turbo Optima is it the SE? very cool, I ran one of those too back in the day, that was 89 aye. I was out there last weekend and ran my K2 for a few tanks, I had dirty harry's they seemed to do pretty well, the soil/dirt is very loose. The track was fun, all it needs really is some jump buildup, maybe some bigger sidwalls on the corners would help lay down some traction, lookin good though Don!

Chris,
I just parted with a Turbo Optima and a Salute I am going to keep the ones I have. I have one with belt drive and ball diffs and one with belt drive and the truck conversion. I hope to run the buggy in the vintage class Don and Brad are trying to work up and if I can get away with it I will run the truck in mod truck class. I also have a fast attack vehicle I will try to get running for vintage. As soon as I can take a picture of the optima I will post it.
Chris, where did you get the step pins from, I am having troubl finding them online.
Thanks,
Tom

The step pins I have are 3 yrs. old but I was on Proline's web site and I saw they offer them in the M3 compound. Have you tried Stormer Hobbies online? They usually have a lot of tires in stock. stormerhobbies.com. Proline just came out with a new step pin design called the Lug Nut T. That is the next tire I want to try on my XXXT. I think Losi still offers a step pin for the truck but I'm not sure about the buggy. Proline's Bow Tie tread design might work. I cannot wait to see the Optima. Post a pic with and without the body.

Bad news yall,
im only 19 and already the victim of identity theft, so i may not be racing for quite a while, or until i get this mess straightened out, someone tried to withdrawn a ton of money from my bank account last week and knocked me with a few NSF fees, and since there was only about 4.00 in the account, i got hit with a negative balance fee as well, which means i literally have no money for ANYTHING until i get paid after the holidays. ill be out for practice at somepoint over the holidays, i think i can still do that, but no racing, cant afford the motor or tires for my new FT TC3 yet. oh well.... i'll hopefully be back to racing with yall over christmas.
Congrats on the win Brad, and Don, the track looks awesome, cant wait to get my T3 out there powered by a mindblown of some form (plug for brad)

Yeah same person.....this track is a great Christmas gift to everyone out here. We had a decent race Sunday. We had some sponsored racers attend and that was fun to watch. I qualed (2nd) behind Ron Atomic (XRAY) but during the A was taken out of the race during the first turn. Most of who qualed behind me had little time on carpet so it was to be expected. Those are the breaks (literally).
I hope you can make it out this way.

after the second battery i had the car rounding the corners like Mika Hakkanin. i was even two-wheelin it through several of them! that 'ole losi kinda disappointed me on the carpet, but on the asphalt it's a totaly different beast.

quick question since i have only raced in parking lots......
what about my radio? Is an AM Futaba 2PHKA OK to use? I really do not want to get another until I can drive the car to its limiti with the existing radio, and boy I got a while before that happens! Just want to check how this works at Wheels.
Will I need to carry different crystals or are they available? I have watched you guys some last summer before I owned any kind of car, I just didn't pay attention to all that so I would stay out of the way, but I have some idea of how it works.
Mind you I work at Hungates and sell R/C stuff, but 99% of our customers are bashers and I know the answers to those kind of questions. 10 months ago I knew nothing about r/c (I was hired for plastic model and art knowledge!)
I know my ESC cannot reverse, got that under control with a no limit Novak without reverse. I am using a P2K motor, assuming there will be stock racing class ;)
I've always enjoyed 1:1 scale racing (F1, IRL) growing up and would love to race something, so I figured this would be it. Now you know my little story and why I asked nOOb questions!
So what exactly is going on with the track? Am I to understand Don is having troubles? I have met him last summer and he is a very nice person and has always answered my emails with no delay.
I usually work on Saturdays at 3pm and I know that is when races are held. Once I get out of school I won't work Saturdays anymore but probably Sunday, I'll figure something out.

OK one more thing...... how many people are showing up for Sunday practice? I may go this weekend because I won't have to work, and don't have my parts to put the car together anyway. I may bring my T3 with street wheels and drive it some, but mind you it is not set up for any kind of particular surface but to bash around ( I mean I have a range of tires from Road Hawgs to stock stadium truck tires to Masher2000s for the thing and gears available for a 10turn double to a stock 27 turn motor!@)
So if anyone will be out there this Sunday please let me know, I am not going all the way out just to drive a truck that is not set up. I would love to watch you all and learn as much as possible though.

Any weekend day i am off work is that way because it's already devoted to a race that I am planning on going to, lol. The thing is, I have some tires that BSR gave to me, and i want to do some timed testing to find out if they are slower, faster, or better than the takeoffs. I don't want to waste a raceday playing with it, ya know. I ran them at Rock Hill, and they were good, but I need to make sure they will be the same on asphalt. I am really hoping they are, because you could prolly run a whole season on 4 tires, they are caps. Takeoffs fade after about the 2nd weekend, then become just practice tires.

well had another good practice today...ALONE. i hate noone showed today. it would have been nice to bench with some folks and acually get some times. oh well maybe some other time. there must be a difference in the wood's blacktop and wheel's. cause my car was absolutely perfect today! i guess those nitro cars spit out so much oil that it fouls out the racing surface.
at glenn's the car wouldn't roll, grip, or carry momemtom at all! but in durham i could bicycle the thing at will! oh well maybe i shouldn't let one (no 4) bad races decide the fate of the car. i just wish i had more time.

no my real car is OK. Now the next problem was when I was stranded at home, i was working on my r/c cars and now both don't work. I don't have time to get them running. It will be MAY 6TH AT NIGHT BEFORE I WILL BE ABLE TO. This is the day I move out of my dorm and go home. Funny I can move with the T3 truck but not steer (stering servo is removed and the saver screw is stripped so I cannot take it out!) and I can steer the TA04 but not drive it (not sure why yet.......... probably a pebble in there somewhere)
Anyway that weekend I should be out with something, even if I got to buy an RTR from work!

Don,
Any luck on getting someone to run some races? When can we look forward to the track opening? I am still available on alternating Sundays to run races.
Is there any inventory as far as bodies or tires left in the shop, if so I would like to get a few things.

I just found out about The RC Speedway and I was wondering what open practice all the time meant. also wondering if there is a 4WD truck class

Most of the people in Durham are on the Durham v04 thread now, you might want to look there. Open practice means the track is open for you to come practice all the time.
