I have almost 2 GT4s for sale, theres enough cars to build another car. I have xtra belts, pulleys, arms, 2 one ways, 2 diffs, bulkheads (front and rear), centax, 2 trannies with plenty of spurs, solid axles, fornt sway bar. Just a crapload of stuff. If you want pics let me know. For $400 I will trow in a used engine and a pipe. Or we can talk about a price.
Thanks,
Steven Muller

Anyone know much about the Yokomo GT4 S Type? Will the regular GT4 parts fit this car? I can't seem to find any reviews or details about the GT4 S Type.

I think the S was most like the Pro version with a couple more options...not sure which options though. I believe it came with the aluminum braces and aluminum bulkhead brace. That's all I can think of.
I can tell you from experience don't let anybody say you that you can't be fast on the track with this car. You can get the RTR and be track ready with threaded shocks. Trust me, this is still a good car. I sold my FT NTC3 to get a second one cause I felt so comfortable with it. Handels better than my old R40.

I definitely agree the car is very competitive. I was hanging with all the other high end cars (MTX3's, RRR's, 710's) at the track last week. I own a Mugen MTX3 prospec. I truly believe, put two drivers with similar skills, same engine and pipe, and race...the results will be very similar. I think it'd end up being a tie. The Yokomo is an awesome car. I have a spare MTX3 which I am trading for the Yokomo S type because I had so much fun racing it.

It's hard finding an active forum for gt4.
I'd still like to know why Yokomo took down their forums. There was alot of helpful info there on these cars.

I ran my mostly stock GT-4 on a short parking lot track last year. Next year I would like it to have even quicker acceleration though.
What would be the best/cheapest mod to do?
I'm thinking of changing the first gear pinion or the pulley swap. Which would make the most noticeable difference?
And how does the side belt tensioner help?
yokomo170
11-26-2005, 12:24 PM
the belt tensor helps a little little bit i say get a pully set u will notice acceleration by alot
Quinton
11-26-2005, 01:27 PM
So it would be better (more noticeable) to do the pulley swap over the quicker first gear?
Dan H

What engine are you running?
Before you go off spending more money, trim the stock clutch shoes on the bottow lower trailing edges. This will allow the engine to rev higher before the clutch engages so it will make it seem a bit more snappier off the line.
Quinton
11-26-2005, 10:51 PM
the stock .18 side exhaust engine. no complaints at all with it so i will run it until it dies
Dan H
11-27-2005, 01:53 AM
The .18 engine has a single needle carb if I'm not mistaken so there is no low end adjustment. I'd just say replace the engine when it dies. ;)
Quinton
11-27-2005, 09:52 AM
Right. Which I hated when I first got it, but for the most part I didn't have to touch it all summer. The thing just fired right up for me everytime and whooped up on the other couple of nitro's at the track. It's just such a short track with tight corners that I want it to GO RIGHT NOW instead of the tad bit of lag.
So I'm thinking either 1st gear change or pulley. Whacha think?

I have recently bought a GT4 Pro. I would like to get a Centax clutch, part ZE-MTCL. Does this improve the acceleration out of corners? Does anyone have one for sale?
Thanks :)
Quinton
11-29-2005, 07:36 AM
I don't see how a clutch would improve accel out of corners because the clutch (no matter which one you use) will already be intact with the CB. I would think the pulley would make a big difference, if you can handle losing some top end. Just an educated guess though.
Saboteur
11-29-2005, 03:40 PM
Well no a clutch CAN improve acceleration out of the corners. :) It all depends on the settings your clutch is set at. Earlier engagements result in smoother acceleration and later engagement (tighter setting ) will provide a more snapper acceleration. A centax clutch is great because it provides a wide range of adjustment. Just be sure to keep the thrust bearings clean and lightly lubed otherwise they will wear down fast, especially with a high revving .12.

Thank you for your replies. If I understand correctly the rpm at which the clutch starts to bite, and load the motor down, will determinehow quickly the car will pick up? Can I get the same results by adjusting the weight of the clutch shoes, or the strength of the springs? The Centax is expensive at $125, and I am told that I need a new motor mount, also the pinion gears are not compatible. If it doesn't give a startling improvement in performance then I will probably stay with the stock version. Is my thinking correct? It sounds like the Centax needs regular maintanance as well.
Quinton
11-29-2005, 08:18 PM
Your thinking is correct.
I was wrong in my reply because I don't know much about a centax clutch. Thats alot of money for a clutch to mess with. You would be better off just buying a better engine.
Saboteur
11-29-2005, 09:53 PM
Believe it or not, the Mugen, HPI, Kyosho, or Serpent centax are under $100. Wonder why yokomo still hasn't reduced their prices. :(

One of the first things I did with my GT4 when I first got it was modify the stock clutch. All you have to do is evenly take off material on each 3 shoes. I usually use a Dremel and start to grind off material on the trailing ends (NOT the contacting points)
This lets the engine rev higher before the clutch starts to engage so it will be more snappy. The same effect is possible with stiffer clutch springs.

Can't you use other centax clutches from hpi or mugen? Back when yok still had their forums I thought that was something a few of the guys with the older kits were considering because of yok's price.
Saboteur
12-07-2005, 03:21 PM
Make sure the pinions and pitch are the same...which I highly doubt. When I wanted to use the Ofna CD3 Pro centax I had to use my HPI pinions on it. Also, since first gear pinion screwed down too far a thick rubber washer was put on to keep it outward more on the 1st gear spur.

I'm looking for a header for a side exhaust engine. Anyone got a good one?
Thanks
Saboteur
01-15-2006, 12:10 PM
RB and yokomo make side exhaust headers for the yokomo GT4. If its for any other car the standard 90 degree ones are fine. There's no performance difference really. As for the performance pullies it's basically swapping the stock pullies and putting on the new ones. Most pullies are held on by E clip. Just pop them off.
Quinton
01-15-2006, 12:17 PM
I was hoping to find a stock header for cheaper then thru a store. The stock one is bent a little but I really want a nice, new shiny one. If I have to go thru a store, where is a good place to buy one from?
I've had this car for about a year and it's been so good to me that I haven't had to tear into it once so I'm kinda intimidated on where to start to get to the center pulley. The 2 by the pipe don't look too hard to change, but how do I get to the center one?
Thanks man!
Saboteur
01-15-2006, 01:29 PM
lol...no shiny ones..sry man :). If you wanna go shiny, get a RE engine and then you can see all the optional exhaust systems. To get to the pullies in the front of the car you'd have to remove the upper deck. Take a look how things are connected and remove screws while placing them on a flat surface in the order they go in.

I just got a GT4-RTR2 used and workingfor $50, and got to drive it for a day before a damaged rear suspension arm gave out...now I'm looking for any of you guys that make stuff for 'em.. I'm looking for aluminum suspension and chassis components( I dont trust plastic at all anymore, especially as much as my HPI RS4-2 seemed to break after the most minor of impacts...until I was hooked up with a nearly all aluminum-and-carbon fiber chassis). So, what parts are available for this car as far as chassis and suspension? I mostly looking for suspension arms right now, but want more.. Thanks! :)
Dan H

Aluminum arms will do more damage in a crash. It will transfer the force to the hinge pins and bulkheads. You'll be better off sticking with the stock arms. They are cheap anyways, like $6-7 a pair if I'm not mistaken.

I figured it would go to the pins, but didn't think it'd reach the bulkheads... and my problem with the stock arms is that I can't find any, other than on Yokomo's site, and $6-something for shipping such a small thing seems excessive...

Thanks for the advise, I removed some material from the clutch shoes and this delayed the engagement of the clutch. Better performance, Can I get stiffer clutch springs for the clutch, either Yokomo or does some other make fit? I seem to remember reading that Mugen springs fitted.
Anyone know?

hey guys im new to this forum but i just bought 2 yokomos gt4 with 2 bags FULL of extra parts for $60 dollars, thats not a typo,i said 60 dollars, lol, one is a brand new gt4 w with the 18 engine in it and the other is a gt4 R with ever upgrade on it you can get as far as i can tell besides the arms, they both had electronics in them but now radio, or bodies, but for 60 buck i couldnt pass it up. i havent got to drive either one yet but i cant wait to see how these things handle, im going to use the gt4 r for these race season if it handles nice.

Hey there, welcome to the forums!
I liked the GT4 and wonder why the drivers walked off the team. Honestly it could do very well and I've seen few nice racers run with it. The good thing for you is, despite the fact it's old, you have two so use the non-upgraded version for parts. The car handles nice, but it depends on your setup and if you can get it to match the track. Have you decided on an engine and pipe yet? Where are you racing?

Smaller pinion/Larger spur= more acceleration
larger pinion/smaller spur=more top end speed
Quinton

I plan on installing a 21 t pinion for my 2nd gear instead of the stock 19 to help make up a little on the top end that I lost with the pulley kit. It will give me some lag when it shifts gears (I assume) but we'll see how it goes once I install it.
Anyone else done this? If so, how did you like it (or not like it).

You have to refer to the gear ratio chart and the different between the spurs and pinions have to be the same. Too much of a different will cause a large delay and overwork the engine. If you change one pinion best to change two especially since the GT4 doesnt have the .8 module gearing like todays onroad sedans. It allows a wider gear ratio selection for the car and not to mention it's a lot lighter.
Quinton

I bought the 21 after talking with the yokomo tech guy and he said it would work without probs other then what I already mentioned. I'll find out once I install it.

iam just worried my pull start will someday break, and since its a discontinued car, its goann be hard to find a replacement. I checked on stormer hobbies for a replacement but they only have the pull starts for the old side exhaust engines. And I were to spend say $100 on a decent starter box, i might as well just fork over another $30 and get a new side exhaust engine from them. So thats why I was asking. If any1 can find a pull start for me for the rear exhast engine that would be awesome.
