Nice find! That was my favorite chassis back in the day when I was racing and when they had a class for Supers. It was strong and sturdy.

It was definitely one of those deals where you're itching for the guy to hand it to you and say "goodbye" so you can run away before he realizes what's happened.

Does anyone have a Wolfpack chassis that could help me out with a couple of things? Three questions:

1. The conversion uses two HPI belts and one "custom" 72-tooth belt... guess which one I don't have. Anybody have a spare lying around I can buy from you? http://www.wolfpackradicals.com/html/kevlar_belts.html

2. I believe I'm missing some posts that go between the lower and upper chassis plates where they mount near the motor. Could someone take pictures from the tuned pipe side that show what I'm missing? If you could provide a length measurement for the part that would be awesome.

3. I'm not 100% sure how the front of the top plate connects to the front bulkhead... my spacing is off as if I'm missing a 3-mm spacer or something.

All help is appreciated!

I think you have to get the custom belt from wolfpack himself. As for the other two, you are correct, the rear is just the standard rear belt, and the side it the main belt from the NRS4.

As for the part that your missing, I think I know what it is. If you take a look at your regular Super Nitro, there is a plastic part that holds a shaft and two pulleys. One pulley for the main belt and the other for the side belt. That plastic part also holds two bearings. You need a second plastic part.

I'm not finished with my rebuild yet, but I will see about getting a pic

Thanks for the help. I emailed Wolfgang last night and had already received a reply this morning - he said he'd send belts along free of charge! What a guy. I also took the opportunity to ask him about a couple problems I've experienced rebuilding. I took some photos, so I'll post them here too if you guys have insight.

The front bulkhead brace piece seems to be out of plane with the front bulkhead, as if I'm missing a plate or a piece. Any ideas on why there is a gap?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/magnus213/P1050720_800x600.jpg

I didn't receive any posts or brace pieces for the rear of the top plate. What's supposed to hold this guy up?

In the front, there should be a brace, and where the top meets the bottom, there should be two shafts and the place puller holder that will be empty.

I'm not sure the size of the shafts, but the front brace will eat up most of that gap in the front. I can probably get you the size of the shafts. You also have to cut the front plastic y-brace on my side by a couple of mm. I'm just not sure how much.

magnus213
07-31-2011, 06:00 PM
Hmm, it looks like I'm not assembling this correctly. So the gear brace stays in the back? I would really like to see a photo possibly with the upper deck removed so I can figure exactly how the front belts are working.

C0NTENDER
07-31-2011, 06:28 PM
you need two gear braces for this conversion :). One in the front that holds the shaft and pulleys, and the one in the rear that you see in my picture is just for support.

I know I have the instructions, but won't be able to get to them until next week.

C0NTENDER

Actually, the more I look at your picture, the clearer it becomes. Looking at your picture again

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/magnus213/P1050724_800x600.jpg

I see you have the front gear brace the way it should be. Now take a look at your picture and look at your two circles on the right there are 5 holes there and that's where your empty gear brace goes. Looks like the only thing your missing are the two shafts that extend from the top to the bottom. One going where you have the circle on the left, and one that goes in the front.

The only other thing that you should have is the top plates. There are two. One that you have shown, and a part that goes with it that kind of is in a y shape.

Excellent, I see it now. Thankfully I have a spare gear brace so that's good news. It looks like there are metal posts that support the upper deck on the pipe side of the car, but it should be secure enough without those until I find something that works.

You also have to cut the front plastic y-brace on my side by a couple of mm. I'm just not sure how much.

Ah, so I DO have to trim down the top of the front brace. That solves the gap problem, then! Woot

You gotta love this SNRS4 thread is rolling again.....nice to have Contender with his experience and references to help us out.

I was glad to see Magnus get the score of a lifetime. Congrats.

Here's my contribution without taking any thunder away from Magnus Wolfpack car and recent score.

I went to my buddy's house this afternoon and my box was waiting with a brand new super nitro body was waiting. We all know how hard these bodies are to come by...... but finding this rare one tops my list.

PTI Racing Porsche 962 SNRS4 body. These bodies are impossible to find and thanks to contender for helping uncover the manufacturer when I started my search awhile back.

Ok, I need some help from you guys.....we need to convince Contender to take on the painting project at his leisure (Consignment of course when time permits) to do this rare body justice. :) I have no business trying to paint this body and only would trust Contender with such a rare find.

cuda, what a score!!! That thing looks insane! How did you locate it? It's a good thing we have Contender around or we'd be butchering these rare shells with our feeble paintjob attempts.

I'm sending him my 300mm Diablo in the near future, between the two of us we'll have him busy!

Kinda cool story....the old owner of PTI Racing contacted me and mentioned he might have 2 left in his old warehouse stock pile...I emailed him back asap and didn't push him and told him to take his time. About a month after the first email I started to apply some added pressure and he finally got back to me and said he had only one left. I asked to see pictures and he said he didn't have any....so I went on the trust system and sent the money paypal. I didn't hear back from him for a few weeks and figured I was screwed. I told him I was out of town and to ship the car to a friends house. After a few weeks I figured if it showed up I'm stoked but if not oh well it was worth the risk. My friend called me a week later and said a box arrived...I was out of town but pretty excited that the deal went thru....after opening the box today the body is mint condition in original plastic with decals.

Funny how the little things can get me so excited. I'm hoping contender can finish off the car some day....I have a Diablo of his and it's by far one of the coolest bodies in my fleet....just perfect.

You guys rock....first and foremost I never would have got the body if Contender and his extensive knowledge of SNRS4 history lead me to the manufacturer in the first place. It was by pure luck that the owner of PTI Racing got in touch with me.

As far as the last body...that could be true I was fortunate enough awhile back to buy a set of highly upgraded SNRS4.....a Toyota GT-ONE and PTI Racing Porsche 962 matching race bodies......the matching paint scheme's are not anything to write home about but just happy to get the 962 Porsche body included in the deal.

Cuda, I wil make you a deal, you cut the wheels out before shipping to me, it would be my pleasure to paint it :). It might take me a while as I will probably need some time just to look over the body to come up with a paint scheme. Plus there are two other guys in front of you in line, so you would make my 3rd and final paint job for the year :)

BTW - you sure you don't want to keep it in the bag for a while :)

Thanks in advance Contender and you make an excellent point....with everything going on with a relocation move I might be better just chilling out for awhile.....I'll just put it away and we can look at it later down the road. I'm confident you could come up with a paint scheme that would be off the hook. :winner:

List of rare bodies that I have that I don't plan on painting for a while:

280mm Mercedes CLK DTM (by Kyosho)
280mm Supra (by Kyosho)
280mm Porsche GT1 (by Kyosho)

Meanwhile, I have another GT-1 that I'm about to finish and a Porsche 911 that I need to start working on. Aside from that, I have about three other bodies waiting for some designs.

Call me 518-610-1773, Erick

Up First us a extremely clean restored Dodge Viper super nitro with it's original box and an extra body. FINISH IT THE WAY YOU WANT!!!!
I carefully painted and decaled the Viper body a couple weeks ago, which means no runs, scratches or blemishes. The extra body has been used and raced but but is perfect for a runner. The car itself had sway bars, an aluminum upper deck, hubs, front shock tower and side tranny brace. The springs have been custom colored as has been in the linkage which is included. It has the two speed trans along with all new belts and the optional engine mounts perfect for that OS.18 CVR-X. I am also including the clutch bell, lightweight fly wheel, clutch shoes, clutch bell bearings, and collet. The wheels have zero scratches and the tires have tons of life left. It has a fiber disk brake, new fuel tank and the hard to find foam bumper. All the original paper work and box are included. I carefully wrapped up the car with towels and put the extra used body over the towels before placing it in the box. The body is perfect and I don't want it to get scratched or scuffed in shipping. Asking price is $200.00 firm + ship. Additional pics found on my photo bucket link:http://s988.photobucket.com/albums/af3/Showcase186/SUPER%20NITRO%20SALE/

So I have to ask- who has the largest collection of Supers? I think it's time for a roll call. I'll go first.

Super Nitro - stock
Super Nitro - thorough HPI mods
Super Nitro - Wolfpack converted
Super Electric - stock ish
Super Nitro Rally - light mods

For those five chassis I've got 6 shells.

I honestly think I'm about done collecting cars, unless something miraculous pops up. The electric Super was the evasive unicorn and the Super Rally was an "it would be cool to have one if the opportunity was right" thing, and now I own them both. There's really nothing else I'm looking for anymore.

Check that - I will perpetually watch out for an old Road Star or Street Machine. But those are so few and far between that I don't expect to ever snag one.

Wolfgang is actually in New York, at least the last time I heard from him a few years ago. I did one of his Super Nitro conversions for a project back when I worked for a different magazine (early 2000s). I still have both purple and black versions of that chassis and topped it off with a Toyota GTOne body.

Great to see that you guys are keeping the SNRS4 alive. I have the big-block kit in mine, but have recently been thinking about blowing the dust off it and converting it to electric.

Lito

Very mysterious... Assuming he ships me that belt and such I'll be able see a return address.

*edit* update, I just got an email response from him. He has machined the upper plate standoffs for me and is sending them along with the belt I need free of charge. This is a nice guy! He also shared a photo of what he's working on... a 3-speed fully converted Super! Looks wild.

I'll be buying big block motor mounts from him, and I also asked him where he's from.

Hey Lito, I have been emailing with Wolfgang a bit and he confirmed that he is in New York. You should definitly post a couple photos of your Supers! Wolfgang is shipping the standoff posts, front belt, and big block motor mounts to me today so look for a build update in the future.

I learned that the HPI MT2 heavy duty fuel tank is a perfect fit, by the way. I need to find some steering turnbuckles, and I have the HPI upgrade shocks somewhere back in Atlanta. Same goes with foam tires. No motor sourced, but to be honest I don't think this car is ever going to see pavement.

Contender is working on a Diablo GT body for me, so it might be that! Although with 1/8 foams on the chassis I kind of doubt that the body will clear. If that's the case, I have a 1/8 HPI GT-One I can pull off my Proceed.

Hi guys,

I've been lurking on this thread for quite a while now,but something happened recently which made me register just so I could reply here!

I walked in the the chain run hobby store near my old house, that I used to go to as a child, and there, at the bottom of the pile of bagged body shells was a super Toyota GT-one !! Obviously, as it's discontinued (and the shop knew it) they didn't just charge sticker price for such a rare hard to find item, they knocked 20% off the price!

This new one now brings shells in my possession up to 3, 2 Gt-ones and a vette. I have a lamborghini shell that I bought on eBay on it's way over from australia, so that'll make an even 4.... I also feel like I've bought the whole world's supply of super star wheels, 23r tyres and soft inner foams... My paypal account has taken a good beating this month...

I hadn't actually used the car for about 4 years up until last weekend, man, this thing is quicker than I remember! It's got an OS 15cv and a 2 speed. I'm also running a heli gyro on the steering servo to keep in in a straight line, it's great fun...

Anyway, enough rambling from me.... I'll go back to lurking in the back ground now.. I just had to tell some one who cared about the body shell find :)

I can't find them on eBay at the moment, but I would match the winning bid on the porche shells now by paypal if you could ship them, i had them on my watch list so i saw what they went for. the Toyota was a bit pricey for me as I'd only need it for spare parts.

I've found a shop here that has a corvette shell which has already been painted for a customer in silver, a viper shell which is multi coloured (looks better than it sounds) and a toms supra painted orange with black tiger stripes. Looks like I can get all 3 for a deal although the 280mm dodge won't fit mine anymore as the exhaust header is in the way of the wheel on full suspension compression :(

Yeah, I stripped paint off a GT-One shell and I can't recommend it. If it's a good solid white you should look into stickers and decals. I imagine you could dress it up a little bit.

The Diablo has always been a favorite car of mine and I think it's one of the best Super shells, you don't see too many of them. I managed to snag an old 200mm Diablo at a local shop, maybe I can get that painted soon.

I was thinking againt stripping it, I'm not even sure of the condition, it looks ok in the photos but it's a 2-3 week wait for delivery from Australia to the UK apparently, they must have tied it to the foot of a seagull!

Once I see the condition of it I'll know where to start.

Just found another model store that has a 300mm corvette shell and a 280 viper, both painted and both over $100 each! Also there are some 1/8th tamiya shells, clear and much cheaper. The guy at the store is going though all their old HPI boxes to see what else will fit the super, seems helpful :)

I've also spoken to a plastic forming company today who can knock these shells out the door for £25 each, but, that's based on a minimum 100 shells ordered and over £1000 initial tooling cost.... I think I might give that a miss!

Like I said before, I really don't recommend stripping the paint. Take a look at pages 89 and 90 of this thread to see how it worked for me. Unless you are extremely careful and have some really good luck, it's not worth it. The lexan stays milky and you get moisture behind the stickers and strange paint flaws. Not to mention that, when you go to paint the body again, you no longer have window masks or the film on the outer side of the body, which are a huge pain. I tried to be as careful as possible, but the brake fluid wound up getting on some of my stickers and they didn't stand a chance.

I'm surprised a shop quoted you 25 pounds a piece for a shell - I know that the tooling would be expensive, but once it's set up I'm not sure how they're using more than $5 worth of lexan to produce a shell. Thermoforming is pretty straight-forward.

The painted bodies are new, apparently they were commissioned for a customer but never run. Tamiya wise they have a Subaru and a cliff Opel unpainted, the have a toms supra painted in orange and black tiger stripes.

I was shocked at the unit price on forming the bodies, but this is why manufacturing is all but dead over here :(

If you read the past couple pages, you can see that I have been interacting with Wolfgang in the past few weeks and he was able to help me out with some parts. Shoot him an email via his website and he might be able to help you out.

On a personal note, I have been neglecting this forum and R/C in general... I have been doing some 1/1 scale car things instead. I recently sold my Scion and picked up a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata. I was looking for something more sporty and so far this car does not disappoint. Sadly, this means that those funds I had previously dedicated to R/C are going to be going towards this guy.

Brand new, never run, spare tires, spare Nissan NPT body, and a painted one that looks pretty nice, all with original box. This is the last HPI car I've been tracking and I daresay that my collection is, with this acquisition, finished.

...

What am I supposed to do now?

There is a company that is manufactures lexan boddies. They appear to be distributing these via ebay only, but I did ask if they plan on building more, and they said yes.

I have to look again, but I think they are called team blue groove or something. I figured the more people who ask for 280mm bodies, there is a chance that they might manufacture some.

They have a 200mm 956 Porsche, so I'm sure they can do a 280mm one as well. As it stands, there is only one person in the world that has such an item popcorn

This would be cool. Are they the ones doing the Escudo that's on there right now?

I finally snagged some RJ Ride tires for my wide Kyosho rims. Contender, looks like you're doing some good business on eBay these days with those bodies.

That would be them. I asked them if it came with decals and masking, they said no, but if they made a body that was rare, I wouldn't mind not having masking and decals.

Yes, but ebay is so hit or miss. So periods you get what your looking for, and then some periods you go through droughts.

Had an oooops today. I guess it goes to show that no one is immune to making a mistake while painting a body.

I was rushing to beat the sunset, so I grabbed the body that I was going to paint. The first coat was going to be a basic black, so I had the rattle can in my hand (if I have been using my airbrush, I'm sure I would have been taking my time), but needless to say, I started to spray, then I realized, I didn't have the window masking on. DARN. Too late now, I guess I need to make it into a midnight body and scrap the plan I had for it.

Hi guys!

Been finding my self reading in this thread, and been getting an itch to try out a Super Nitro RS4! :)

I have currently a rs4 3.

Is it possible to build one from the ground up? I see that the chassis seems to be around much on ebay! good base, huh? ;) But is there any parts that is notoriously difficult to find?

Are there some parts that fit from a standards rs4 3?

Best regards

It should be pretty easy to piece together a car from the ground up, though you can find a chassis in decently good shape for $125-150 if you watch eBay. I'm fairly certain that you won't find any carryover parts from the RS4 3, as the Super Nitro is belt drive and based on the RS4 2 design. That being said, the RS4 2 has a lot of carry-over parts.

The first difficult part that comes to mind for me is bodies, which always end up costing an arm and a leg. Tires can only be found in a couple of compounds these days. I've noticed that certain belts are difficult to find as well.

I would recommend trying to pick up a chassis on eBay to get something with all the bits, even just to avoid the irritation of trying to find yourself a body.

Yes maybe its best to buy a roller atleast. But i see that GPM carry many many alu-parts for it, including brand new chassis.
tobad you cant find so many rollers on ebay. But i guess a couple of day´s scrolling trough the list will do the trick!

As you say, the belts may be hard to find, and thats really to bad. Never own a belt-car but it seem like it would be quite simple to go through a number of them?

Saw that one too, it it stays in the low 200s I would call it a good deal. It has a lot of the desirable parts: 2-speed, carbon pieces, decently nice GT-One shell, new tires. It looks a little dirty in the photos but with a good teardown and scrub you'd have a looker. Not to mention you could pawn off the aluminum bits and recover some money...

Just caught up n this thread, more awesome paint work by contender...

In my own little world I found a super rs4 electric on ebay and bought it immediately, with the view of converting it to brushless (some day) it comes with a pretty beaten up skyline shell but it'll do for parking lot bashing. I've also aquired a few more shells for the SNRS4, so far Im up to 2 corvettes, a diablo, the skyline and a gt-one painted, then 2 gt-ones (possibly 3) and a subaru snrs4 rally all unpainted.

What im REALLY after, are some 'drift' tyres in the super size. no one seems to be able to help with this but im hoping if anyone can, it'll be one of you guys :)

Hi guys I have a Super Nitro and I ordered a new body (This one (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLGB3)) and I realize that my wheelbase is different.

It looks like the Nitro RS4 2 has a wheelbase of 255mm... Can I change the Wheelbase to 255mm just by changing to the nitro rs4 2 A arms or is it more than that?

Is this body going to look like crap on my car?

Looks like you've got yourself a RS4 2 there, that 200mm body should fit with no problem. 200mm refers to the width from wheel to wheel; nitro sedans are generally 200mm, electric sedans are generally 190mm.

Thanks for the reply :)

This was originally a Super Nitro RS4 I have upgraded to alot of the RS4 2 /Racer 2 parts.

I know the width will be fine. Im referring to the Wheelbase (The distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels.) The Super Nitro is 280mm and the regular Nitros are 255mm... from my understanding.

My current body is the old Viper body (http://www.hpiracing.com/press/pr7500.htm) and it says its 280 wheelbase... but I just measured from wheel nut to wheel nut and its about 250~ (cant get a great measurement my calipers arnt big enough) so im not sure what to trust...

looks very nice! I picked up one of these shells on ebay last month, came with NO window masks or spoiler, thinking of what kind of paint scheme to go with now. Possibly a 'drift' car type look as there's no spoiler...

looks great in subaru blue though :)

I have just had a set of super size wheels machined down and fitted with a set of drift tyres that had to be opened up on the lathe to fit the wheels. Not tried them out yet but was so sick of looking for replacement wheels/tyres I decided to make my own!

Good but bad news. People kept telling me I was asking too much, so I decided to end most of the auctions, but let a few of them ride for parts and one body. I'm not trying to be unfair, but I got sick of having people message me 20 times a day asking me for a "buy it now" for next to nothing. Maybe if I keep them for another decade they will decide I won't be asking too much. LOL. So I suppose I'm still in the SN club for now. I actually had a guy ask me to part out a full car for a brake component!

I was wondering what happened to the auctions. I didn't think you were asking too much for the cars as I thought the starting price was decent.

I know what you mean, I get questions all the time about a lower price for a body.

280mm Mercedes CLK DTM
280mm Porsche GT-1

300mm NSX

Mr Contender, once the bodies are exhausted, you could always sell reproductions of those exquisite carbon fiber and aluminum SN parts. I would totally mount an unpainted (read: clear) body over one of those chassis...... Yum Yum
