the rear belt should have some tension on it ,but not loose enough to slide off.use your best judgement ,if you have ever owned or seen another belt driven car, use that as starting point for a reference for your belt tension on the alcyon.if your not sure after that ,let another racer or your local hobby shop look at the car .like i said before, you are the first one that i know of to have this type of propblems .kawada cars are pretty worry free. like i said before it will be some thing simple, that was easily overlooked!!!
i'am running a Kawada sigma and the car has been trouble free sense i first put it together.my friend has 2 alcyon's and he won't run anything else but kawada touring cars ,he is getting a sigma soon.
let me know what you find out !

I found the problems. The clicking is caused by the angling of the spur shaft. I eliminated the majority of it, but it has a little left when free rolling.
The vibrating was caused by a loose screw on the front casters/wheel hubs. Although i am using 26 mm foam tires that touches a screw when turning.
As far as the rear belt, is there a tensioner available? Is there a way to tighten it? I bought the car partially built. Even then, I did not find a tensioner or a way to tighten the rear belt. It's hard for other people, because not too many people are familiar with KAWADA. I am located in Los Angeles, Ca. Do you know anyone in my area that is familiar with these cars?
Also, what is the part number of the universal driveshaft and axle, and where can i order it?
Thanks

i don't know anybody in L.A but i have seen people who own kawada's and have posted on this thread as well as others, that live there or near by.there are rear belt tensioners available but i don't think you need it unless the belt is slipping.the axle numbers are svs-20 for the whole cv,svs-20b just the axle and sva-20 for the opional alloy cv.as for the belt tensioner i can't find it listed on the parts catalog.
to order parts try the U.S distributor at www.kawadaracing.com
or goto kawada home page it has a english conversion button www.kawadamodel.co.jp you can even download a owners manual if needed.

Kawadaracing.com does not have the item available it seems. i should try emailing them. Is that part #for the Acylon or the Acylon 2 ? Cause i am not sure if i can replace only the axle.I have the Acylon 2. My manual shows that it is the SV-20, but only as the universal joint.
Also whats a good pinion to pair with a 9-12 turn motor, along with a 120t/64p spur?
I am currently running the stock pinion and spur with a 17t motor; it runs great.

The axle for all the kawada tc alcyon,alcyon2 and sigma are all the same.evolution hobbies (kawadaracing) is waiting for a parts order now ,if they are out they will have the parts in soon.Email then to keep in touch for the parts.
As for gearing on a low turn mod try as a starting point ,go down like 10t(64p) lower on the pinion you are using now ,THIS IS ONLY A STARTING POINT!!!if the motor is very hot after running for just a couple of minutes ,go lower on the pinion.Go to you local track or hobby shop and ask what the other 2belt cars are using like x-ray,tamiya 414(this is the closet considering the 414 is a tamiya /kawada built car).drive ratio on the alcyon is 2.24. spur div by pinion = x 2.24= final drive ratio.
hope this helps
also go back on this tread for some alcyon owners and email them for suggestions!

Hey, this is Bob, right?

My name's Matt Culver, I ordered a couple sets of your drift wheels a while back and haven't gotten them yet, nor have I gotten a response to my e-mails. You can e-mail me at littleculver27@yahoo.com or BMWM5E39M3E30@aol.com. I'm not accusing you of intentionally ripping me off, because I know you have many satisfied customers; I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. Please contact me as soon as possible.

I sincerely apologize for my previous post. There was indeed a misunderstanding and it was not the fault of Kawadaracing.com or Evolutionhobbies.com. My point was not to slander you, and I believe that any would-be customers should not be swayed by my post; Bob has dealt with the problem professionally and I would order from them again. Again, I apologize and I sincerely hope this does not hurt your reputation.

what is a good rubber tire to use for a high bite smooth asphalt track? Has anyone tried and liked the suspension setup that momosports posted from jan 2000 RCCA ? If so what tires did you use? There are 11 pages here but I could find only one post with set-up info..... help me out please.

You need the set-up info for which Kawada car Alcyon or Sigma?
A great tire for outdoor racing, you can't go wrong with cs-take off or sorex .Not sure on the compound you would want, i know cs27 is popular but not sure if that is the one you would want to start with for outdoor asphalt.Kawada has tires for what you want to do ,but i have not had a chance to try them and don't know anybody who has --yet!!!also go to Kawada Japan website and they have set-up's for both car's and most of them are for asphalt tracks.

thanks hardadz. I've been trying what foam and rubber I have and it seems that even using the RCCA setup (with soft rear and very hard front springs); Im still gonna need a softer rear tire rather than use same for all 4.

TRF Drive Hard

If you think you can get it from a shop at $300 ,you CAN'T.That price of $369.99 U.S for the Sigma 2(NEW) is cheaper than ANY shop ,even oversea's shop in Japan,Singapore and Hong Kong.I have checked and even got emails from these shops on the price and the cheapest is $389.99 from a shop in Hong Kong and that doesn't include shipping and any other fee's that they have .Total from that shop depeding how you paid by paypal or credit card ,all said and done to get a Sigma 2 from them would range from $450-$500 .And even if you live in one of those countries it would still cost more than $369.99 asking price from the U.S dist.!!!!and if you can PROVE IT!

Looks like Kawada is coming out with a 27t stock motor. U.S Kawada distributor is going to send it to ROAR for approval when they get some in! It is based in there popular vt 23t motor with a 27t armature in it,with DSE connector's and cooling blades .People looking to get a Sigma2 will have to wait ,first shipment to the U.S has come and gone!
People from oversea's ,if you own a Sigma1 or Sigma2 please start posting on this thread. The more the information the better!!
Thanks

Hi all,

After having raced a 415MSX and an EVO5 for most of this year, I finally decided to buy a Sigma 2 to give it a try. I had wanted to get one much earlier, but the original price was a bit too high and I felt it was a bit risky to run a car no-one else has.

Anyway, having now raced it 3 times I am looking forward to seeing how well I can get it to go in 2007.

The car had a difficult debut as it's 2nd raceday was at our National c'ships, on a track I'm not too familiar with - so in the end I was dissapointed to finish at the bottom of the B-Main :(

2 weeks later however, at my local track, I managed to TQ over the new National Champ and looked set for an A-Main win, until I misjudged lapping a backmarker on the last lap, losing the lead and finishing 2nd.

Obviously I was very happy with that result and shows the car has promise. It proves a theory of mine that basically any good quality car can be competative at a relatively high level.

The main problem initially with the car is that it is quite a bit different to setup compared to other "normal" tourers, due to the difference in weight placement but mainly due to the indentical suspension front and rear.

This means the rear shocks feel quite a bit softer than other cars so some experimenting needs to be done to come up with the right set-up.

One thing that is apparent, is how efficient the drive train is :)

It is noticeably more efficient than both the MSX and Evo5, showing that the single belt system does work.
