Re: M03 r chassis (49417) anyone got it? is it worth extra money for the parts you get with?

Looking at getting an m-class chassis remember when mini first came out years ago and fwd is just so cool! great fun running!

I was planning on getting this chassis kit and the old style mini body and a brushless set up for it:D:D

Thanks

hey, what's up pajero!!!

if i were you ill get the m03r i bought it ending last yr and its great, if you get the stock m03 its going to come 95% plastic if you get the m03r it comes full bearings, tamiya blue aluminum servo post, aluminum front spindles, aluminum rear uprites, more little goodies....

stock tamiya m03 ill say $80-$120.
raced out tamiya m03r $150-$160.

if you were to buy the m03 stock and hop it up like the m03r it WILL cost you well over $230 that's if you like official tamiya aluminum parts.

i have a youtube video with me unboxing the car piece by piece showing you what you get. search this on youtube. "tamiya m03r rcpro17" and you'll run accross it.

right now i have over $200 worth of tamiya/3racing parts in my m03r also it trades off between mamba max kv5700 or sometimes novak super sport plus.

the first up grade i did to the car was put front CV shafts and put aluminum shocks for something stronger then the plastic oil shocks. if you were to do the same the only thing you have to worry about is tires and driving skill because you'll be SET!! =]

Hi, i just got a re -realease pajer hence name lol!

Cool, i thought it be good value compared to buying bits seperately it just looks cool to with those blue alloy parts:)

I guess you dont want all alloy parts also as then you end up breaking more bigger parts in a crash!

have you got the sway/roll bars on yours? what other tamiya mods have you done, got part numbers? and which are most worth while and what is just bling lol!

Now got to decide on a good all round brushless esc for this and the pajero!

Thanks

Lee:)

part numbers I'm not sure because i don't really have that many tamiya upgrades just ta03 ball diff and all sorts of short tamiya spinges and a tamiya tg10 servo saver.

but the rest of the I've added to this wicked chassis is mainly 3racing

TAMIYA M03 11-Spoke Wheels Fluorescent Black

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Front shock Tower Graphite Stiffener

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Rear shock Tower Graphite Stiffener

SQUARE TAMIYA M03R Alumium rear towar bar SMF4

TAMIYA M03 11-Spoke Wheels Fluorescent Yellow

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Aluminium Motor Heatsink W/ Cooling

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Aluminium Ball Differential System

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Rear Lower aluminum Suspension Arm

3RACING TAMIYA M03 Front Lower aluminum Suspension Arms

Aluminum motor heatsink

3RACING aluminum m03 shocks

3RACING sway bars/ anti roll bars.

i only use the sway bar in the front because i LOVE droop in my mini while it takes corners and the rear sway bar limites that.

i haven't use the 3RACING ball diff yet but i heard they suck and they get loose fast I'm not sure tho why.

check on ebay search tamiya m03 or m03r and you'll run accross every item i bought plus more.

also check out www.rc-mini.net and you'll find out what's good and what's not good for upgrades on your m03r. also remeber there's no body that comes with the m03r i bought the m03 and the m03r and i haven't use the m03r chassis i put all the goodies on the m03!! I'm trying to save the cool chassis and rims.

it all deppends on your budget

Thanks for all info did a search on ebay there is tons of parts lol could end up spending a small fortune on it even if get the m03r kit!

Just read review on rc-mini.net does sound like a great kit to start with:D

think i will build kit as it is first then get some mods. Now i just need to decide on a brushless system or i might get the m series tamiya acto power motor!

minis are very fun with what ever motor you have it . it could be from a 27 turn silver can to the most hot brushless. but to be honest I've had two brushless systems in my mini already and its all over kill.

the wheels don't catch traction untill 35-40mph and its more like a straight away car for going down the block. but if you were to keep it high turn brushed motor i know you'll get bored of the speed (like everyone who doesn't race on track) but you'll get the most from your mini.

as for me ever since i went brushless i could never go back to brush (for speed) for drifting or racing stock then 19turns are best and pretty fast

you might wana try what i have its the novak super sport plus brushless system its just like 19 turn motor but smoothness of brushless or you could put 12 turn mod and smoke the tires.

what wheel base are you shooting for? body? do you already have a electronics system for it plan?

hey, what up lee so you perchased the m03r? you'll love it!!!!!

also you got the mamba max 4600kv? if i were you i would've went with novak i had the 5700kv system and after two weeks the motor fizzled out then i was still happy with the esc untill one week ago it stop working all together waist of 215 bucks.

all my friends have that wicked novak gtb 3.5 in there cars and it runs strong all day. i wish i would've bought novak =[ but i have the novak supersport plus brushless esc and its fine but kinda under power for me but hey, i didn't pay for it!!!!

but don't worry i think i got the dud you'll be happy with your mamba system because its more calm and it wouldn't be that much over kill for a lil mini.

The 3 Racing Ball Diff works great ... for about 2 race meetings and then it slips:( ... rebuild ... still slips  ... rebuild - use loctite on the screw and funny nut thing ... still slips

i have a tamiya ta03rs and it had two ball diffs in it!! so i took the rear one out and put it to my m03r and it works great BUT i striped the little splines in the ball cup so i installed the 3racing ball diff that i got on ebay for 12 bux and I'm running it with a 19turn, stock 20t pinion and a novak super sport plus esc and i run it hard for hours and nothing has happen (yet) but I've said that about 3racing diffs because on there site on the forums they say it slips. but for me it hasn't happen!!!! BUT IT STILL UNDERSTEARS LIKE A MOTHER-R-R. =[

Hmm. (That's ths sound of the brain firing up!)

Nice article Tony, I wonder if there are wider arches (that mad hot rod Mini body with the bonnet bulge springs to mind) we could bolt on over the pickups with really small screws. I've seen it done on some of the drift sites, could be a solution here? I've a NIB Suzuki Swift unopened since Christmas, a set of revolution alloys in their box, and the possibilities are endless...

It's quite fast, I don't think any 2WD M chassis car can hang with it on the same motors. I did have the rear screwed on but they stripped out so i pushed some nails through and shimmed them. So far it's actually working better.

I also put the Mini Shell back on, the GTI body just had too much wheel gap for my tastes, and I'm growing fond of the Mini.

You would have been better off chopping up a TL-01 chassis like I did.

Hi DD, you could use an O-ring inside the shick itself to limit suspension travel and bring down the ride height. I don't think it make s alot of difference which way the diff nut is arranged.

It is currently stock, water dipped the motor, bearing used throughout and packed the diff with grease. Aside from some springs/shocks and maybe some eyecandy screws, don't really planning on straying from stock by far.

Per the suggestions here, I did get the 3Racing shocks for my M03 and they work great. For $20.00 or so from Hong Kong, you can't beat em.

I am looking for a good general bashing tire. I run mostly on parking lots/school blacktop which means less then glass smooth and typically dusty as well. I was wondering how a slick like this would work for just messing around on the surface described? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGH68&P=Z

Or am I better just getting another set of the treaded tires like those included in the kit?

Bodywerx - I think your TL01 cut down to make it a 4wd mini looks great. Where did you cut the chassis, what did you cut it with and how did you connect the front and rear sections?

I cut it right in fron to the motor pod and then cut the distance out of the rear "electronics bay" to make it 208mm.

I ca'd it, to hold, plastic welded it back together, and reinforced it all with 5min epoxy.

I then sanded the outside 80, 120, 240, 400 to make it look factory.
My 225mm chassis looks even better, as I can get the electronics into the bay.

It's an HPI body from their Mini Nitro RS4 from a couple years ago, I believe they still make the bodies (Civic and Mini) and from what I remember the part number is 7024. At least that is the number I remember printed on the lexan. Oddly enough on the front it has holes pre-marked that line up perfectly for the MO-3 chassis but not for the rear posts.

40 wt oil
Soft springs
3-hole piston damper
Ride height level

This seem like a decent starting place? May switch to slick rubber tires so I'll have to change the setup accordingly.

I just got my M03 built. I just finished cutting out the body for a test fit. I mounted it and I was wondering if there is a way to mount the front any lower. It hits the plastic piece int he front. I want the body to sit nice and low. Any advice?

I tried racing with some shims in the diff to "tighten" it up a bit, and the Mini was noticeably quicker pulling onto the straights (more acceleration) but it didn't help with cornering at all. So, I took the shims out and simply packed the diff gears with the included grease and made sure to work it in nice. It turns out that overall the Mini is faster this way, as I was placing first and TQ each heat (3rd in this weekends main due to some brutal traffic :D) but it drives much smoother. I also went to medium spring in front, soft in rear. Today I will add some fuel tubing on the shock shaft to compensate for the "droop" the suspension has from the low ride height, which should help it transition through turns even quicker. It has a bit too much roll at the moment and isn't as responsive as I'd like it to be in the turns.

Also Serpent I have that problem with my Civic body, you could always put a few layers of masking tape over where it hits to avoid it removing paint at that spot. My body is still in good shape but there are 2 clear spots where it rubs the chassis

I like the shimmed stock gear diff in my M03M :D It has worked very well for me on our small 60x60 foot track. I let a friend race it this past season and he did pretty good with it. But everyone is different.

Also have the same issue with the HPI Civic HB body. I used some tape as well to lessen the rubbing.

Our track is much smaller than 60x60 though, so having plenty of diff action is critical for turn transitions and such. But it'd pull from the pack on the straights! :D

i lost a step screw that acts as a kingpin for my M03 chassis. the 4x11.5 step screws seem to be had to find. iv been told that a TA04 kingpin will work as a direct replacement is this true? i think i remember hearing the M01 and M02 chassis used 4x10's will those work? or will the 4x12's from the Toyota Land Cruiser work?

I was surprised to pick up on this motor option from our local TCS rules and more surprised not to have picked up any chatter on this motor on the forums. Would appriciate any advice on running this motor, as against the existing sport tuned and stock 540 motors.

The only advantage that this motor has over the Sport Tuned / Silver Can is that it has replaceable brushes ... however as it seems to be rated 28T so how it's performance would equate to the 23T/27T motors .... I don't know

SWITCH - That's just what HPI are hoping legions of M03 fans will do when this car is released soon.

http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp189/rcmini/Switch.jpg

But info has been scarce so far. What's the wheelbase? What's the deal with the weird wheel fixings, where are the shocks? and most importantly of all, are the gear ratios similar to the M03?

We've seen one, we've actually touched one (haven't driven it - YET)

Find out what we found out HERE (http://www.rc-mini.net) now...

I'm going to get a M03R Kit. What servo you recommend for this car?
Should I buy Lipos or Nihm? Any difference in performance?
Any good link to how to break in the motor?
The HPI Honda Civic body fits M03, M03M or M03L?

Thanks

Civic body is 225mm as far as I remember, so MO3M (e.g. Suzuki Swift)will fit.

I don't think you need a super quick servo, I've found that I was dialling down the speed to make the car easier to handle.

Lipos will give a longer runtime than NIMHs, I'd recommend a safety shut off of you go Lipos.

Try googling "water dipping motor break in" though the gains aren't that big...

Hi all, I got a M03 in a trade and I'm just hocked with this little thing, mostly because it's the perfect dimenssion for the track I have next to my home, so it has become my daily basher. I've been modifiing front and rear to fit a HPI Datsun body and changed battery position to put my 5000 nihm saddle packs inside the body, I hope you like it.

Since there is no M03/M05 thread, I hope it's okay that I'm posting here. I've been considering an M05 based chassis, either the Mini or the Swift based M05Ra. The only other on-road car I've owned has been a TT-01, brushless 4800kv and 3S. I don't think I'll want to go brushless on the M05 but I wonder if the fun factor is as good as with the TT-01, if not better. And also do these FF chassis really turn on a dime like so many state? I would so much prefer tight handling than straight line speed.

John R. drove extremely well in the Traxxas Rally class, but was tested throughout the day by Austin P. and Gary P. Austin schooled Gary P. and MD in the Off Road class with his Revo. John R. had the dominate car in the Tamiya Mini class. Thanks goes out to Nik P., Mark, Erwin, Clarence and Jose who came out today. Thanks to Austin's parents who helped marshal today. Thanks to Austin for helping clean up in the rain. Thanks to Gary P. for staying until the end to help clean up. Special thanks to John R. for coming early and staying late to help! We got all of our races in except the last minute of the Tamiya Mini Main. It helps sometimes to hold your races in a church parking lot. The church really appreciates the funds raised through racing.

Winfield isn't too far from me. Granted, I don't have a mini right now, but if you guys are going to keep this going next year, I could justify building a mini to bring up. Back in the day I had the O.G. Tamiya Mini, man what a fun little car. But due to an unsupporting hobby shop and being in the days before the Internet, it was hard to get replacements for it. I would love to build another.

Is it a spec class or a "run what you brung" kind of thng?

Our Mini Class is run what you brung. Except, you have to run a Johnson or Mabuchi silver can motor. We're planning on doing it again next year. Minis are reasonable priced. I hope to see you out in Winfield next year.

We had our best turnout of 2011. It was a great day of racing with perfect weather. We started at 11:30AM and racing was over by 3:10 PM. We ran two heats and a main with six minute heats. Thanks to Dave, Paul, and Matt for racing with us for the first time. The church appreciates the money we raised. Dylan and Austin schooled some of us old guys and very old guys. Thanks to John for coming early and helping to setup and staying late to pick up race after race! Thanks to Gerry for coming out again and staying to help clean up. It's greatly appreciated! Daniella and Elizabeth did a great job in the Novice Class. Thanks for bringing your Dad along.
