[I recently installed a new engine on my RTR rs4 3 evo. I recommend , OS engine the 18 CVR without pull start or with if you want. I also recommend using HPI's racing clutch which is in the back or your manual. Very good engine and easy to install. Look on tower hobbies web site for best price #LXGGP5. Good luck!
QUOTE=azizhousecallz]anyone ever exchange the T15 from the RTR rs4 3 evo? they dont have the engine listed and i can't get an answer from hpi tech or email?
I have worn this engine out being my first nitro car and im ready to put a new motor in this car. any help please! :([/QUOTE]

I just bought a new .12 Os CV-RX for my nitro rs4 2 but when installing the engine with the heavy duty 2 speed tranny, the clutch bell and gears don't line up right and the fly wheel is hitting the break. Can i not use the lightweight flywheel with this? What parts do i need to make the OS .12 CV-Rx fit in my NRS4 2? Thanks for your help

Bluntpuffz, you may want to loosen the the glow plug slightly to relieve some of the compression. Additionaly, the engine is much easier to start with the roto start. Oh, and make sure the engines not flooded.

theirs a bolt under the gear housing but ontop of the clutch the might need to be tightend
check buy pulling youre pullstart while holding the bumpstart wheel if you can pull the pullstarter and the bump start wheel stays still you need to tighten youre clutch

I think they're the same size. If you take your CVDs out and bring them to the LHS I'm sure you can compare yours with the new ones. Keep in mind that the front CVD bones are shorter (longer???) then the rears by a little bit.

Hi guys i am going to be hanging out in the forum for a few weeks. I have an original Nitro RS4, and it's been sitting in pieces in a box for about 3yrs. I tried pulling the pull starter on the engine and it's stuck. I'm guessing it's all gunked up from oil and goo. NO biggy i'll just take it apart and clean everything. So from here on out i'm buying up grades for my RS4, I've already started by buying a carbon upper deck, some rims, tires, and bearings. I'm waiting for new steering assembly, hubs, and knuckles. This should be fun. It's been a long time since i've messed around with an on road vehicle. I purchased a Subaru 2008 body HPI and will be painting it. I'm not sure what kind of design though. Maybe a drift style design? I have Spaz Stix paints and these colors look really good on onroad bodies so maybe a candy apple red, or a metalic blue, or a metalic hard ano orange. Not sure????? Either way i'll be posting pics as i begin my overhaul of my beatup old car.

Well i just purchased some GPM front knuckles for $6.00 shipped off ebay. I also bought a new carbon fiber top deck, new rims, new tires, new body, and i need to buy new bearings for the entire vehicle. All the ones on the chassis are gummed up. Then i'll be rebuilding the engine.
I'll take some pics, just waiting for a couple of things to arrive and i'll start my rebuild.

Well i have my engine cleaned FINALLY! It took me 3 hours. The bearings were all stuck so i had to use paint remover to losen up the sticky old oil. I let the entire engine sit in a back of thinner and then tried moving them around and sure enough it worked. Then i pinched the sleeve with my vice. I didn't want to over kill it so i didn't use to much force. I basically put the piston in half way and then stuck the entire piston and sleeve together in to the vice. It worked, but time will tell when i go to start it up. Next was the carb. I thought it was fine but after a closer inspection i found that the entire thing was gummed up and stuck also. LOL
I didn't stick this in thinner as i was worried that the thinner would cause the bushings to swell. I don't feel like buying parts for this engine so if i can save a piece then i will. I took the entire carb appart and cleaned everything. I found sitting inside my carb, right below the high speed kneedle was 5 grams of dirt. Not sure how it got there but sure enough it was there. After removing all the bushings i soaked the entire carb in thinner. I let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then i preceeded to reassemble the carb. It went back together flawlessly! I am happy that the engine turns with good pinch, and that the carb rotates. Oh this is a Fantom .15 engine. While i was in there i also did a slight port job to the sleeve just opening up the ports a slight bit. Unfortunately i didn't take the time to take pics of this, but i will take pics of everything else.

So here is the pic of the engine, and some pics of the chassis. It's rather dusty and dirty. I already trimmed and mounted the body before paint. I'm going with a white /red spazstix hard metal coat. I don't want to do anything flashy. The body is a Subaru 08 Imprezza. Time to clean....

Well i found a brand new Hardcore Racing titanium chassis. I bought it for $50.00 NEW. It's a nice pearl blue color. Once i receive it i'll post pics. I'm still waiting for some gear to arrive but overall i have it competely dismantled and in the process of cleaning and replacing parts. I know i'm putting tons of money into this rather old antiquated vehicle but i own it and am never getting rid of it. So dumping money into something that i won't get rid off doesn't bother me.
The only problem i'm having is finding a rear carbon shock mount. Since i couldn't find one i purchased a Hardcore rear silver titanium one for $10.00 LOL the titanium bits are cheaper than the woven graphite stuff.

It will look very nice once cleaned up. I too will forever keep my car/truck so it does no harm in finding quality upgrades.
Here's my story:
Well I bought my NRS4 2 a long time ago. It was my 1st nitro r/c car and got it as a BDay present. I think I've had it for 10 years, but it looks new. I haven't driven it in a few years, but I just started to buy the remaining parts to finish it. I've had plenty of upgrades invested, but never did complete it.
Here's what i put into it:
-aluminum threaded shocks, purple
-aluminum suspension arms, purple
-aluminum suspension hubs/carriers, gunmetal
-robinson racing aluminum ball diff, front/rear
-robinson racing aluminum brake kit
-hpi heavy duty 2 speed tranny
-hpi aluminum side belt brace/tensioner
-hpi front belt tensioner
-hpi turnbuckles w/rpm ball cups
-hpi graphite shock towers, front/rear
-hpi graphite rear y-brace
-hpi graphite upper deck
-mip aluminum cvds, front(silver)/rear(dark gunmetal)
-hpi aluminum hex hubs
-hpi foam bumper w/ hpi graphite bumper plate
-robinson racing aluminum pullies
-hpi primerless fuel tank
-traxxas trx2.5r engine
-4mm 7075 chassis, forget what brand, purple
-hpi adjustable body posts
-gpm aluminum engine mount, purple
-hpi sway bars
-hpi racing clutch
The graphite upper deck was backordered and shipped the other day from towerhobbies. The rear gunmetal cvds came in so I might buy some gunmetal cvd bones to replace the silver ones in the front. I had to pay a lot for my 2nd RRP aluminum ball diff, as they are very hard to find. I only have 2 aluminum pullies, but I am looking for 2 more to complete the car, those will most likely cost a lot as well.
For the engine, I don't have one right now, but I sent in my old TRX2.5 to traxxas for a free 2.5r replacement. Hopefully it comes with a pullstart because I don't have one, old one broke. Once I get my new engine I may buy a low profile silver cooling head since it comes stock with a blue one. As for electronics I have a new hitec synthesized rx and some extra servos, one fast enough for steering and an average one for throttle/brake. Also I just got in a tsais silver tuned pipe with tsais header, got it on ebay for $35.
I have a Savage SS I got a few years back. I converted it over to a Savage X.
-axial .28 engine(black cooling head)
-hpi wheelie bar
-rpm black center skid plate
-heavy duty brake hub
-steel spur but I switched back to plastic. I don't want to kill my transmission if something were to happen.
-hpi 3 speed tranny
-hpi reverse module w/ mixer(getting shipped now from towerhobbies)
-aluminum brake kit
-heavy duty front/rear diffs
-savage x chassis
-savage x front/rear bulkheads
-savage x radio box
-savage x tranny case
-hpi heavy duty engine mount plate
-aluminum engine mount
-hpi heavy duty dogbones
-hpi 17mm hex conversion kit
-tsais gunmetal pipe(normal design, not the fancy dual exhaust or w/e they had)
-axial beadlock rims
-proline 40 series big joe tires
-novak xxtra synthesized rx
-hpi 3 shoe clutch setup
Both vehicles will be controlled from my hitec lynx 3d radio with synthesized module.
So basically my truck is complete, will probably never buy another upgrade for it and my car will get 2 more aluminum pullies, some new rims and tires, a new body, and maybe some aluminum bulkheads, then that will finally be complete. Ever since I had the car I wanted to finish it, but never had the money. Since then, I've let it go untouched for years until recently.

Sway bars, graphite upper deck, fuel tank, trx2.5r engine, aluminum hex hubs, rpm turnbuckle ball cups, and savage reverse should arrive here soon. Silver or Purple cooling head for engine, aluminum rs4 pullies, and maybe some bulkheads will be the final purchases.
Can't wait :)

Zip tie.
I have a NRS4 Pro I bought it new back in 1998. I has been sitting for the past 9 years. I fixed my starter box, got some fresh fuel and it was running great for about 10 minutes, then it stalled and didn't want to restart unless I used the idle up switch on my radio or bliping the throttle.
Does anyone know what the factory settings are for a HPI/Novarossi .12, I forgot which needle is for what too, the one that the fuel line fitting goes in if I'm right is the HSN, the one that is linear to the throttle should be the LSN and the other very small screw is the idle am I right?
Also does anyone know where I can find a Serpent Impulse fuel tank(there first gen TC), seems my tank does not allow fuel to flow and my radio plate was cut out for the Serpent tank.
If I remember right this is the HSN

This should be the LSN if I remember correctly

This one should be the idle speed

Anyone who knows let me know if I'm right. I messed with all adjustments(due to a bad fuel tank seal) and want to bring it back to factory settings as a base line.

I fixed my fuel tank and now I'm back to a old problem I had with the car. If it shifts into second gear at full throttle it blows the front drive belt off. Does anyone have the part numbers for the front drive pulley kit? I cannot complain about it ias the car has had a lot of track use in it's day.

If anyone needs the manual or parts list for a original RS4 I found it on the HPI web site.
Here is the link

For info on tuning the older Novarossi .12's sold under the HPI name

I took my car apart last night to figure out just why it had no suspension travel in the front end and my belt problem, found my front drive pulley is worn to nothing.
Sorry for the blurry pic, best I could do

Here is my RS4 still wearing the body and tires from the last race it was entered in back in 2001.

Once I got my starter box fixed it did actually start right up, not bad for sitting for 9 years.

Yeah they go for cheap when your lucky and not looking or people ask crazy money for them. I wish I would have bought one years ago. I still have my RS4 racer though, parts are getting hard to find for it though.

Funny thing about this auction. He was asking $1000 which is why I said crazy money. Just for kicks, I offered him $500. Next thing I know he agreed and the car was mine. YEAH!

Looking just for the onroad car, but thanks so much for offering.

Regarding the rally, with NRS4 Evo shock towers and shocks, it drops down perfect to an onroad stance, and everything bolts right on. Same width and length as the SNRS4 as they use the same suspension arms. It's a perfect shafty alternative to belt drive - not sure why HPI never offered it that way. Very much reminds me the SGP's and FW04s (and you can still get most of the parts!)
I had that set-up on mine, along with the 2 speed and VC rear shaft from my SGP10. Nice set-up as you can swap out 2 speed gears, as well as the various R&P gears, 1-ways, and other odds and ends that the various kits use. Converted back to rally now though and on the shelf.
Just my 2 cents.

It was hard to get all the parts to fit and work with each other and some stuff had to be made custom. I got it all to work together but one screw (I am sure you will find it in the pictures) It's several pounds of aluminum :)

I've recently aquired a box o' R/C parts. Seems like I have almost an entire vehicle with an extra chassis plate and front suspension. I am all about fabrication and could make whatever my twisted mind desires but, if by the pictures anyone could chime in as to how much effort getting the original vehicle running would be it would be appreciated. I think I need motor mounts, clutchbell, carb, or atleast rebuild the current one, spur, and whatever holds the rear belt inplace on the spur shaft. And a body but that's Easy!!!!

Hi , I am new to the rc hobby. I bought and built an old Hpi Nitro Rs4 piece by piece off of Ebay with a few changes. I sent in the old 15 FE engine and purchased a new T3.0. I ran it the first day I had it just fine. The second day I ended up melting the clutch shoes just driving around. So I ordered some more shoes and tried it out today and I spun a rear rim right off the shaft. So, my question is , Is this too much power for the stock parts ? Can I purchase or use any aluminum clutch shoes and rims ? I also seem to be out of tune now. Think I will take it with me up to the LHS soon and see if they can help me tune it better.
But besides the melting of those two parts man this engine and car combination flies. Not that I have much experience but from the videos I have watched on youtube, man it is faster. I don't have a 2 speed I am actually wanting to buy one but when I look up the part number to purchase it only shows the clutch holder. So I am also unsure what other pieces I would need to make it work.
Oh and why I think I have a tuning issue is , it takes me awhile to just get it started . If it doesn't start in the first few pulls then it ends up flooded, and I have tried to adjust the low speed and high speed needle just a little bit (on the low) it seemed better the last time I started it (before spinning off the rear rim)I just adjusted both needles to run leaner. It could also still be my clutch as I am still waiting on some new bearings to come in the mail so I just wanted to tinker with it so I reused the older bearing (which seems to be a little melted).
I have been reading these forums and others so I thought it was time to join in .

Yes I changed some things on it but I still seem to have a slight tuning problem I haven't messed with it for about 3 months will hit it again in the spring.

To build a 2 speed for the belt drive rs4 from parts you would need:
HPI A880 clutch bell
A881 clutch holder
86050 maintenance kit
A831 2 speed gear shaft
a292 1st gear adaptor or just a regular one way bearing depending on the gears you choose.

Ok so, I bought a carbon fiber upper deck for my RS4 3 Evo+. after I installed it I noticed there is not a spot to mount the hard antenna so I just have the wire laying down on the body, when the body is mounted. Does anyone have a salution?
