I've had mine now for a few months, and it's a performer for sure... Went together quite nicely with very minimal fiddling. Engine broke in nice and runs like a champ. Starts on first or second pull 90% of the time. At the local dirt track, she clocked at 27mph on the straight and was running about 230 degrees or so on a warm evening (10% fuel and not quite fully up to speed).
Only minor things were that the front bulkhead (which is constantly on backorder) breaks very easily where it "keys" the front gearbox in. I designed and had fabbed (here at work) some aluminum add-in pieces that prevent the breakage from ever occuring. I'll make the drawings available if anyone wants them. It also seems that many people say the stock clutch shoe that comes with the kit "burns" up real easy. I am on #2 after about 80% of a gallon of gas. Even the first one wasn't too bad...
Anyone else have any thoughts or experiences? Considering getting a boost bottle and/or intercooler for the motor just to fool around with and see if it makes any difference.

I really wanted one of those things for a while but there isnt a class...

I am sort of considering getting one as a "thrash" around car. Would you consider it a good vehicle? I dont want to drop the $$ for a 1/8 buggy, so it seemed to fill the niche nicely. I am running a Losi GTX right now, but am kind of looking towards the buggies.

Although it sucks that there isn't a class for them, this would be an awesome "thrash" vehicle. (Local track owner said he was considering a 4wd 1/10 scale any-thing goes class for fun... My buddy has an HPI Nitro MT Racer which fits the bill as well.)
As I said, the motor has plenty of power, although if you wanted more a nice Novarossi .15 would make this thing fly. Note above the very minor weak points and beef them up at assembly and you should be fine.
Read the article about it in March's RC Nitro magazine... Lots of good stuff. They give it some serious props.
I was so happy with it in fact, I just got a Kanai 7.5... Still building her while the baby one keeps me out on the track.
Let me know if you have any specific questions...

I'll sell you one if you are serious. I bought it, broke the front bulkhead then it sat while I was waiting for parts... they were back ordered for 2 months! I put a bearing kit in it and upgraded to universals front and rear. It is barely broken in and will come with extra arms and dog bones and a few sets of wheels.. not even mounted yet. Its a cool car but while I was waiting for parts I bought an 1/8th scale and now that its fixed it just sits there getting dusty. Let me know. cparry9@gte.net

Two months! Damn... I gave up after a couple weeks and decided to use the 4 year degree and machine shop at work to permanently fix it... (Although I have two replacement sets now... Just in case)
Draxx.. If you buy it, let me know and I'll get you some of the front bulkhead supports I designed and fabbed. I made a few extra sets. They're basically screw-in form-fitting aluminum spacers that support the bulkhead all the way to the chassis.

I appreciate that..and thanks for the general info. I have to talk the wife into said purchase first. Since my Losi is running fine, it might end up being a christmas present to myself ;) . I am thinking about picking up that issue of R/c nitro and read what they have to say.

Just a question, how well does the TR-15 handel jumps?
DarkWraith
08-16-2001, 09:47 PM
She flies well....... Good balance. The nose it a little heavy, just keep a decent squeeze of gas to level her out. I just put in some heavier shock oil; the stock stuff was fairly thin. Hopefully it reduces some of the chassis slap on the bigger jumps; but I know I aint gonna get rid of it completely.
See up above about the one weak point. I broke it the first time on a good landing, just had too much throttle and all the torque simply snapped the front bulkhead.

I had a ofna and it was a peice of junk. I broke every stinking suspensoin part on it and we made a double shock tower and it still ent. No doubt the TR-15 could beat it. The ofna was junk. Dont get it.

I will get some pics of version one of the fixed front bulkhead as soon as I can. Version two is simply a little cleaner with counterbores and the like. I will post a drawing that could be taken to a machine shop such that you could have them made.
My TR-15 is currently resting on the workbench. Seems I put a small crack in the fuel tank in the bottom and it leaks like a sieve. I have tried every glue know to man and they all chip off (epoxy, model glue, CA) What are these tanks made of?!? LOL I can still run with this problem so I am not too concerned. Otherwise, I broke the mounting holes portion of my steering servo, lost the fron swingshaft and broke the piece that the front steering pivots on. I have that spare (comes with front bulkhead) although I gotta order the swingshaft.
And how did I do this? Pole at the end of the high-speed straight at about 25 mph. Damn T-Maxx bumped me. HE WON. I'll try to get some wreck photos up as well.

OK... Here we go... First off; it's my TR-15... My buddy Squiddo has enough other cars and lives through my TR vicariously. :D And those are just good ol' balloons over the shocks. Gonna be getting the Shock Sox from Torn Creations here shortly... Much more better... (Spandex and durable and the like) null (http://null)ShockSox (http://torncreations.tripod.com/soxcolor.jpg)
For better pix (with other body) check out the news tab here: UTA TR-15 (http://members.home.net/utaweb/)
Atho: See all of the above posts for what I broke and what I did to fix it. For disadvantages... The engine is OK for power and very reliable; not awesome though. All in all, I am quite happy with it. Assembly wise you get pretty much a rolling chassis BUT, if you add bearings in (as I did) you tear it all apart anyways. The manual is quite good; just read it carefully when adding bearings and fixing things. I don't even need it anymore.

Saw the movie, yes... Nice. I got mine from TowerHobbies along with the Futaba 2PEKA FM radio deal.
DarkWraith
09-22-2001, 09:58 PM
Another worthwhile add-on I decided to get was the "upgrade" for the Futaba 3003 servos which consisted of a new top servo cover and a bearing for the spline. Seemed alot smoother for adding a $5 part to an $11 servo...
DarkWraith
10-25-2001, 01:01 PM
Well... Upgraded the steering servo to a Hitec with better speed and torque than the Futaba 3004s that I had in it and it certainly has helped. I'm in the process of completely stripping the whole car down. I think I am gonna try and fill the diffs with some oil and see how it responds. (Not sure if they are sealable or not; I don't remember from putting it together) Am also in the process of getting a new, two needle carb and possibly a larger cooling head.
This thread has been gone for a while... Anybody else out there got one of these bad boyz? Even having a Kanai, I still enjoy tearing it up with my "little" car... I'd love the see some of the other paint jobs people have used... My yellow body is up above. Here is my UT oriented body as seen on the OGL website...

Hey guys! I'm about to order one of these lil' buggers! Hopefully after report cards come... Anyways, I heard of the clutch burning up, and someone mentioned a carbon clutch. I could only find a clutch made out of some orange Dupont stuff, is this it?
This is also going to be my first nitro, so how is it to start off? I'm looking forward to this a lot, and there's a speciall in Tower with this one going for under $200!
Any reccomendations on hopups?
Thanks guys, Impreza.

I love mine........ Read everything up above to get the best info and pix... I don't wanna rehash it all again...
Just about an hour ago actually, I put the new special GS15 head on my engine (a little bigger, more fins) and also the two needle version of the carb. I should get some more performance out of the engine this way for sure.
As for the clutch..... YEP! Smokin... I fried a couple. I keep at least two in my box at all times. They are like $4 or something. The "good" clutch is made of Vespal (sp.) which is made by Dupont. I'm sure it is alot better, but not for $35. I'll buy 9 of the regular ones. (I am on my 3rd in 1.5-2 gallons of fuel) Not too too bad.
I filled the diffs with oil just recently as well. I'll let everyone know if it affects the handling at all. I should be firing it up this weekend.
I think it is a great first car. Builds easy, runs well with very acceptable performance for the buck. From the looks of it... I AM ITS BIGGEST PROPONENT. :D

11-09-2001, 07:10 AM
I bought mine about three weeks ago, easy to put together and it goes really well. I'm new to this so if I can do it, anyone can. Only problems I've had are the clutch burning out (replaced with the vespal one) and the brake burning too (replaced with a metal one)
DarkWraith
11-09-2001, 12:46 PM
Notice any difference with the Vespal clutch?
ajb019
11-12-2001, 03:47 AM
Car runs the same, but I don't need to worry about burning the clutch up. The stock one burnt out the first time I gave the car a good run. I reckon it's well worth paying out for one, but £20 seems over the top. Still taking the engine out to replace the clutch all the time is a pain.
The new brake works alot better though. I had five or six tanks over the weekend with no problems. My brother even managed to smash it into a kerb at full throttle and no damage.
A quick question. I've changed to ball bearings all round. When I push the car by hand, although it runs quite smooth, there seems to be quite alot of resistance.
It's definitely not the clutch rubbing, any ideas what it could be?
COOL BUGGY DarkWraith!!!!!!
I was looking at that buggy a while back....I love shaft driven 4WD vehicles....I thought about getting one of those, and still might get one later on, but for the time being, My friend and I are running TC3 Rally Cars at our local track......They are a blast to drive, and really fast(even with a stock motor)....4WD is Awesome!!!!......But I'm still interested in getting a TR-15, when I can stash enough cash away for it........:p
DarkWraith
11-12-2001, 08:32 PM
there's going to be some resistance... remember, there is alot of mechanical surfaces touching in there despite there being bearings... and remember that there are diffs in there... as long as it smooth and there is no obvious binding, methinks it should be all good... :D
although the obvious one... are the brakes dragging?

IS the tuned pipe that Kyosho makes any good? And what does a tuned pipe do?
ImprezaFreak
11-17-2001, 10:04 AM
The tuned pipe helps you get a boost of power at a desired level of RPMs. Some pipes can help your engine get a boost in the top end, while other pipes give you better bottom end power.
Now about the Kyosho Tuned pipe, there are 2 of them. There's a black one that goes for about $100 and there's another one that's a weird cream color that goes for $84. I have no idea how they are, but I read an article about this car and when they reviewed it they added the tuned pipe. Sadly they didn't do a comparison to see which pipe was better, or if there was any increase in performance at all.
Here it is: http://www.off-road.com/rc/kyosho/tr15.html
(copy and paste it)
I just ordered this car, and I should be getting in in the next week or so. Anything I should watch out for when building it?

Thanks, Impreza
ajb019
11-19-2001, 04:22 AM
No ideas about tyres.
Only thing to watch out for is the shock oil that comes with the kit is quite thin and I've found that my TR-15 bottoms out on jumps. I changed to thicker oil at the weekend and its alot better.
Has anyone put foam in their tyres? What difference does it make?
HauntedMyst
11-19-2001, 09:16 AM
Well, I've considered one of these for a while and gone back and forth dur to it's performance (I didn't get the impression from the review it was much of a basher though a few of you say differenctly) So anyways, I'm skimming through Tower last night and find this... http://www.towerhobbies.com/listings/listinvc.html
At that price, I might not be able to turn it down.
ajb019
11-19-2001, 10:38 AM
That's an unbelievable price. Here in the UK we pay through the nose for everything anyway. My TR-15 was GBP230 which is well over 300 dollars, so you're getting it for half the price. Should have waited for my next trip over. Buy it quick. I might buy one for spares.

HOLY COW...... $152?????
I might buy another one.....
Um... Tires... Foam, as always, is a must for all the usual reasons. I found some standard cheap foam on Tower and cut it to fit. Keeps the tires nice and "firm."
As for comments on the build... Read all my above posts, its all up there. I hate rehashing it over and over. :D
$152??? Gotta be a type-o!
HANDS DOWN... FOR A BASHER CAR... UNBEATABLE!!!
All you need to add is radio gear! The engine aint half bad and with the money you save, you could get the two needle carb and larger head!
Where's the Discover card?
ImprezaFreak
11-19-2001, 08:29 PM
Heh heh! I payed $for mine a couple of days ago! I could have waited for the price to go down lower, but I didn't want to risk the opportunity since I already had the money.
It all came out to $232 and I got a 2PC radio, The Inferno, some extra clutches, after run oil, CA glue, glo-igniter, batteries, and thread locker.
Pretty good deal if you ask me... I'm going to look more into the on-road tires!

A quick fix for the problem with the front bulkhead where the "keys" keep breaking off is to take a body post, from say a HPI car, and on one of the 4 set screws holding the diff case. Take the first bottom screw out and find one about 2mm longer, take the body post and thread the screw through the top of the body post and measure up the distance from the screw to the chassis. Find your distance, cut it, and then screw the screw back in on the diff case and the body post attatched to the diff case keeps it where it should be, i'll post a pic...

i am gonna have some aluminum bulkheads made, tires of messing with this plastic stuff. I just did put in my new engine, a Dynamita .12SPD, wow! this little buggy flies with it!! I am in the process of converting the rims over to standard 2.2" rims. The stock kyosho rims WILL fit reg. buggy rears and 4wd buggy fronts, but the rears a a wee bit narrow, it works fine, but i would rather have 2.2's.

Well I got my car, ran it, and already broke it... LOL I think it took me like 13 hours to build it because i built the front suspension backwards about 3 times. Everything else was pretty straightforward until i got to the break-in process. Since this was my first nitro, I followed the manual like the bible, and it said 2 turns of the needle to start, but it wouldn't even get close. A quick call to my dad who is for some reason the know-it-all of everything (which really bugs me) and he suggested closing the needle 1 turn! Hip hip hurray, all he says works... LOL. After that it was all nice and calm, broke it in with 5 tanks of 10% nitro. Been running that til i finish it so i can use the 20%.
Since I couldn't find any flat dirt to run this buggy on, and it can't run on grass I took it to the street. My front tires have magically turned into slicks, and I just realized i have to get foams for the tires! The GS15R moves this buggy fast enough for me, and we had an up-close meeting with teh neighbor's mailbox. When i crashed, I hit it right in the middle of the buggy where the bumper is, and I looked to find no visible damage. 2 minutes later I'm speeding down the street and all of a sudden it stalled out like it had no more gas. I was like what the heck i just filled it up?! Upon closer inspection I found fuel all over the place, and I was pretty sure that it was a cracked fuel tank. LHS doesn't have the part in stock, and since i didn't buy the buggy fromt them they look at me like I am the devil and refuse brives to sell me the fuel tank they had on the buggy up in the counter.
I managed to document my journey pretty well with lots of pictures and even some videos, but I have no place to post them on. If anyone has some hosting space and would like to post these media articles just email me and i'll be glad to send them to you.

Ah indeed...... Besides the front bulkhead prior to my permanent fix, the only other part I have broken in 1.5 gallons is....... The gas tank. :D
I got one new one and used a soldering iron to quasi-repair the first one just in case I need it down the road. I have since started putting O-rings under the tank where it mounts to the chassis to provide some damping. It won't help in a big crash bit every bit could help.
I ruined my first set of tires running on the road as well. I bought a whole new set of rims and tires and use them for dirt only. My original set are now my road slicks.
I see the price on Tower has now gone from $152 to $199; they must be sellin them...

Like this car a lot but paid £200 in the Uk plus radio gear, what a rip off, have some questions for you.
What the hell does fully ballraced mean?
I run mine at the local park on grass, is it not supposed to be run on grass? Will it do it any damage?
With thanx!

Ballraced means that you put ballbearings instead of metal bushes in. I've done it on mine - they go in the steering and round the axles. They make it run alot smoother.
Nick1Barber

Thanx ajb
What do you think of the car?
ajb019
11-26-2001, 11:07 AM
It's my first nitro car and I think it's great. The speed blew me away when I first drove it. I tend to smash it up on a regular basis but haven't broke anything major yet. I drive it on road, and my flat has a spare underground car park which is handy in bad weather. The tyres are looking very slick now so I'll need to buy new ones soon. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the only problems I've had are a burnt out clutch and a burnt out brake.
It's ridiculous though that we pay £200+ and the Americans pay half that for the same thing. If I lived in the US I'd definitely have bought another for the spares - another body, engine and chassis would easily add up to a hundred quid and then everything else is free.

normal 2.2 inch buggy tired fit the stock TR15 rims. I have Hole shots on all 4 corners of mine. The rear tires are a tad wide, but thats about it. The fronts are a perfect fit. I am going to convert the whole thing to 2.2" rims. I am running a Dynamita 12SPD in mine, it rips!

I am actually in the process of designing some additional brace rods for my TR. My bud recently got a CNC mill and the aluminum parts are flowing freely at this point. Nothin like making your own aluminum parts and not having to shell out serious cash for them. HE WORKS FOR BEER. lol
Methinks the dura-chassis is not even the correct TR-15 chassis... Search using that part number elsewhere and the pic is NOT THE TR-15 CHASSIS. Be wary, I don't agree with every spare part on the list at Tower.

I would get the Associated 4-n-1, thats what i run, its nice and has 4 different setups pending on how you want it, on top of different tension springs to tune it even more. Also, its much cheaper than the Vespel shoes. I also have the Vespel clutch shoes, they are nice, but not worth 30 bucks!

You know DarkWraith, I think you could make really good use of your friend's cnc mill! This buggy suffers from low ground clearance, and I think there could be a way around it! By designing some aluminum front and rear bulkheads with a higher shock screw, you could use some associated team shocks for a GT and fit them to that, or maybe something a little smaller. This way you could get really good shock travel, and maybe with some longer arms, which you could also easily cnc, you would have a really kicka$$ buggy! Heck I think if you do that I'd purchase a set from you since with that kind of shock travel and clearance it would make it the ultimate buggy!
Tell me what you think, or maybe if you could clear some suff up because these are just raw ideas, and you probably know a lot more about all this than I do.

Thanks bro, I'll be ordering one soon. Now i have another problem. Now that I changed the clutch, and i think it was even before i changed it, the engine seems to not come down the revs after i gas it hard. Sometimes it'll just get stuck and go flying into a tree or something!! I have no idea what it could be, and i checked the servos, and they seem to run fine.
Also DarkWraith, could you post some pictures and drawings of those bulkheads you made?
Any idea of what this mess could be?! Thanks, Impreza.

I had the same problem with the stock engine, so i trashed it.LOL...The only thing that i could see as a problem is that the throttle arms will spin freely inside the throttle body itself. You need to keep the dumb thing tight! What happens is when you hit the gas hard it pushes the arms past its normal position and when the servo retracts, it doesnt close the carb. Its too complicated to explain, just sit down and look at it with the engine off and see if you see something close to what im trying to explain.

I know this has probably been answered already elsewhere, but I'm hoping for a specific reply for a TR15. My pull start looks like it's going to die any moment (it's not winding back in again). I don't want to buy the whole assembly, as I reckon its only the spring. Can I buy just the spring? Or is something else wrong too?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Talking about pull starters, mine kinda slips a little when I pull it sometimes. Would that be the same as Johnson's problem?

Thanks a lot, Impreza.

Hiya Johnson
My pullstart went recently, took the engine out and removed the plastic pullstart housing and wound the pullstart by hand then re-attached the cord. Sprung back ok, but I have to be a bit gentle with it I think.
Hope this helps! If I can do it I'm sure you'll have no probs!
Let me know if you need anymore info.

You have to replace the pins on the flywheel or the shoes will not fir right. They can be a pain to get out, but a good pair of pliers is all you need to pull them out. I used my table vise to push the new pins back in, but if you dont have one, then just use the pliers you used to pull them out. I looked at the stock K flywheel and the size is the same, that same procedure as with the Vespel shoes....
Jason

12-08-2001, 04:34 PM
Well, The clutch didn't come with extra pins, and when i pulled the pins out they got messed up. I'm pretty sure that the clutch won't fit unless you redrill new holes in the flywheel, and i have no idea of what I can make new pins out of. I also tried to see if a GT flywheel would fit the engine, but the crankshaft hole is smaller than usual so that won't work either. I might just give the clutch to my friend who has a GT and buy the Vespal ones.
Any other ideas? Thanks guys, later.

Does it come with any ball bearings?
Can you put the rear rims on the front?

1) Yes you can buy extra bodies.
2) No is does NOT come with BB, but you can buy them seperatly for about 30 bucks.
3) No you cant put the rear rims on the front, if you do, you will have no steering because the rim will hit the tire rod.
4) Preformance is better than i expected out of the box, but since im a 1/8 racer, i expected more that it could give me. it is very fun and almost unbreakable.

Just asking because when I open full throttle the engine dies. Can be due to to lean or to rich, please advice ;)
ImprezaFreak

Well the engine dies out at full throttle because there is not enough fuel getting into the engine to combust. Turn the needle out by about a quarter of a turn at a time untill it runs well to richen the mixture a little bit.

Hi All
Can someone help with a problem I've got. My pullstart is slipping when the glow plug is in but is fine when there's no glow plug???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Many Thanx
Metalcat
01-21-2002, 03:50 AM
Nick1, seems that you need to replace the one-way bearing for the pullstarter.
Symptoms you are describing are normal and logic :
glowplug is out -> no compression -> no resistance -> the one way bearing still has enough grip to turn the cranck
glowplug is in -> compression -> resistance -> the one way bearing slips and hence no cranck-turning.
I'm planning to remove the pullstarter, it leaks fuel and I've home made a starterbox for $10 which is doiing the job very well.

HEY! I need help from all you Tr-15er's. I just got a really nice TR-15 but the front end is really tweaked. NOW for the questions.. How much kick up does the the stock chassis have in the front? How much camber and castor should be in the front wheels? Right now my wheels are pointing in a bit and one is kinda sloped towards the car and it sucks. Bad handling.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ALSO does anyone agree with me that they should make aluminum bulkheads for this car?!?!

02-19-2002, 07:19 PM
I meant to add this to my above post BUT I didn't! I have some very good plans for the Inferno TR-15. How about a full roll cage that's protective, strong, and VERY light? It would also go on with NO modification. And I have plans for front braces, bulkheads, f/r chassis braces, CHASSIS, throttle return, more!. I have designed many of my own custom parts, but for these I need help. This might even be a buisness proposition as there is VERY little useful aftermarket support for this car. I am looking for someone with access to proper equipment and experience (TIG welding and machining, this will all be done with aluminum) I hope that someone replys that can do this, lots of people would buy these parts!

I too have a TR... And am in the process of creating some custom aluminum pieces as well. I have access to ProE and MasterCAM; and my friend and fellow RCer has his own CNC mill. I've already had made some supports so that the front bulkhead doesn't break as easily as it normally would. I am in the process of creating the wing stays and mount out of aluminum as well. A roll cage would certainly be cool.
We are considering creating some custom suspension for the car utilizing hingpins instead of "ball" pivot as it is now. Something similar to the RC10GTish... Also, adding a front shock tower so that we could add slightly larger shocks. I hope to have it completed by mid-summer. I should have bought ANOTHER tr when they were only $150 at Tower. They are now back up to $250... Grr....
I agree with you that there is very little hop-up wise out there for this and these parts could be good sellers. IM ON IT ALREADY. :)
As for your car being tweaked... The kick up on my chassis is maybe 10 degrees (without the car being in front of me). I think anything ALOT more or less than that would be bad. As for toe-in and out, the front tires (on mine at least ) are slightly toed out and the rear are slightly toed in. As for the rest, the front tires are pretty much "vertical" and the rears are off vertical slightly with the tops nearer the car. (Always get camber and castor mixed up, I hope the above makes sense to you).
Mine handles fairly well. After driving my Kanai, it seems much worse than it really is, because my Kanai turns on a dime. I guess my only gripe is the turning radius isn't as good as I'd like. Otherwise, my TR is a joy to drive. Flies well and takes a beating.
Alright... Alright... ILL SHUT UP ALREADY! :D
Pershaw
02-20-2002, 05:41 PM
for the reply. I got your camber and castor setiings clearly. NOW I want to try to explain the rollcage to you, this would be the best hop up possible for the TR.... First of all it starts at the front bumper. The front bumper, made of aluminum, has two bars running from it down the chassis that curve over the gas tank, air filter, and engine head. They go over the back shocks and are welded onto a small rear bumper attached the the rear bulkhead! Now this full rollcage will have supports that run to the chassis plastic side plate SCREWS. There is three screws on each side to hold these side plates on. The radio box will be gone but it's easy to tape the receiver to the steering servo. This would be an ideal rollcage. You might not know what the @#$% i'm talking about, so I wish I had a pic! If you do great...

did you all see the custom aluminum wing stays i posted over in the Nitro forum?
i gave'm a workout this weekend and they held up really well...
the only mod to install them was to cut back part of the body another 1/4 inch maybe and use slightly shorter screws to fasten them to the bulkhead...

Aluminum f/r bulkheads would be the shiznit! Aluminum front braces\body mounts (since they are one piece) Rear brace instead of that small rod, Aluminum front brace since there isn't even a small rod! Maybe a chassis. Braces would help though, I don't think a chassis would be nessisary...

Darkwraith, how much would you sell some bulkheads and wing mounts for? I noticed that the bulkheads were the problem, and if you could sell me some i would probably get one of these babys. The wing mounts are not necessisary (or are they?) but they look cool.
DarkWraith
03-13-2002, 06:58 PM
is there anything in our sport that is ABSOLUTELY needed? :D
your right... more chicks... but besides that...
the wing stays add a *little* durability but they are most certainly for show. i'll get with corporate (lol) and find out about the bulkheads....
i'll bust out my extra set tonight and start modelling them up in 3d... the only thing that would make them a little more expensive is the fact there are the parts that "stick out" from the main part of the bulkhead... a lot of machining to cut them out. otherwise, it's cake... ill start with the front bulkhead as that one is most easily broken...
im thinking (as i have a real job still) that i'd have'm modelled by sunday and we could make them one night next week and fit'em to the car the day after.... your're looking about 10 days and ill be back here (hopefully) posting pics of them!
ACTUALLY... now that i have my car and extra set of front bulkheads in front of me... i might try to incorporate a front shock tower as well (as a seperate piece of course)... that way you could slap a nice (longer) set of say RC10GT threaded shocks on there... (which would be a little more vertical than stock) you would need to cut back the body a bit more... but it should be cool.... it would give awesome side to side added stiffness as well... ALSO!!! the "shock tower" for the back would be easy.... having a nice set of shocks on there would be tight... i'm gettin myself excited!
STAY TUNED... thx for the interest as always....
bulkhead set (front) : $TBD
bulkhead set (rear) : $TBD
Wing stay set : $20... polished....
were working on anodizing... some day... we'll anodize to any color you want as well.... SOME DAY... dont get greedy! :D

rear and front brace ill look at... how and where u think to attach it as it is ball-ended, which is hard to do in aluminum... :D
for the rear... replace the cross piece that the wing stays mount to and make it aluminum and go from there... to the center gear holder... they are self-tapping so that should be ok actually... even if i don't make the cross piece aluminum...
as for the front... there's not a whole lot of options... should i make a front shock tower though, i can go from that to the chassis and brace it up... any thoughts on the front from u?

Hello,I have had one of these cars for 2 weeks now.In the break in period I burnt the clucth up so I took it apart and rebuilt it.Now the clutch blew 3 more times after 3 tanks of fuel.So what i did was i had some old clutches from and old kyosho thunderbird car i use to have. They are the same thing as the stock ones, but I have run about 10 tanks through this one and not nothing. The clutch is still perfect.I dont know what it is but I think they are using cheaper plastic now then they did about 6 years ago.I also put 2 little balls in the clutch's and it has shown a great difference.

After several weeks of happy motoring, my servos starting going beserk when I tried to start the car. I replaced the receiver and the problem seems to have gone away, however now when I try to start the engine it revs up high without the servo moving and then dies.
The only time I can get it to start and then die is by priming the engine. Fuel lines look ok and good compression in the engine.
Hope you can help!??

There are only a few hop up parts for the TR15. I have the catalog in Japanese, so here goes. Prices are estimates in US dollars.
.: 2 different pipes, costing $68 & $80. The $80 one is UGLY!
.: Gold Anodised base plate $45
.: Universal joints $30 - I have these, they rule. The old wishbones fall out.
.: Tie rods with a nut like adjuster in the middle - 2 types. $3 & $6
.: Steel diff set - I guess front or rear - $68
.: Hardened diff case - $22
.: Some hardened clutch thing called 'Besuparu' AB15 - $25. Dont waste your money, stick with the $2 cheapies and replace them often
.: Teflon steel shocks - $32. Also seem a waste, unless your serious about racing. which is difficult cos there's not much of a class in 1/10 for buggies
.: Colored spring sets - $8. Good grief!
.: Steel disc brake - $10 I bought it for amusement factor only
.: FPR brake discs - $10
And that's it really. Assorted tires and rims in different styles and colors, but not real 'hop up' parts, except for the pipes.
Also, make sure you're using the right fuel - it DOESNT like 25% ntiro or greater!
Any questions, email me. I can order ALL replacement parts here, and one shop has little bags of screws, platic parts etc.
One thing - Tamiya tires are MUCH better than the Kyosho ones for off road. They fit the rims better too.
http://www.psychosomaticana.com/hobby.htm
check the tires out there. The Kyosho ones are good for on road stuff tho, cos they're so soft :)
I think you'll have better luck making stuff for the car yourself than buying stuff.
Or buy a better car - it's pretty budget ;)
EDIT : OH I FORGOT - replace all the steel collars with the bearing kits - they're great. Take the sizes from your manual to the LHS and get something that fits - Tamiya ones are good & well priced

I noitced that DarkWraith posted that he upgraded to a two needle carb. Does anyone know where these can be bought and maybe some part numbers? I have looked and never found one even though the exploded view of the engine has two needles.
Thanks

I'm seriously thinking about getting this car, but I'm not sure whether i should get the rally one or the buggy.
If i go with the buggy i probbaly won't be able to race due to a lack of class. But if i go rally then the car won't have as much torque for off road :( .
What i want to do is be able to use teh car for both, onroad and off road.
Any suggestions?

Get it. Tamiya tires fit the rims so you can run on- & -off road tires for it. You might want to think about stiffer springs for on-road.
Bit slow for anything but dicking around with on-road : no 2 speed transmission like some cars.
Need help setting it up - email me :)

74901-13 is the part number for the two needle carb.
And Kooz there is two, two speeds available for this car from Kyosho. FZW056, and 39014.

Its for the FW-04 Super-10. The whole center section of the TR-15 is from the FW-04. The better one is $160 USD.

what % nitro do you guys do you use, I am currently using 16% (I run my Landmax on 20%) and I am wondering if I can get some more speed with out fitting the 2 speed as I want to keep this car simple unlike my Landmax. Also do you know what other tyres fit on the standard wheels as I have the rally version and the tyres they give are useless on anything other than warm tarmac?

Been out for a while... But I've dusted the TR off... And I'll be back in the game soon... The Kanai has been gettin all the attention lately, so far be it from me to let its little brother sit in the attic and be lonely...
It's gonna take me 3 days to read all the posts since the last time I was here...

hey ugys,
Im about to get one of these........... i hope!
All i wanna know is:
Is the engine easy to tune?
Reliable?
is the optional blue heatsink anygood?
and
what fuel to use?
info will be appreciated,
thx guys,

My TR was the first nitro I had bought, and outta the box, I felt it was fairly easy to tune. Years later, after tinkering with my WS7 in my 7.5 and watching my friends with their engines (of all sorts, sizes and kinds), I feel it was up there in simple and reliable engines. By no means is it the fastest... But it gets u going. I think I've rebuilt the engine only once, and I have replaced the normal head with the optional "blue" head... I have also replaced the carb with a nicer one. These engine upgrades did give me a slight performance boost. Again... It aint a Sirio or an RB, but it holds its own. There are a bunch of other little things I did to make the buggy more robust as well. As for fuel. We used to use Blue Thunder but have since switched to Trinity 20% solely. It's all we use in all of our cars/trucks/buggies. I won't go back to anything else. (Please keep in mind be bash and tinker 95% of the time, with a little "fun" racing thrown in.)
Hope this helps....
Nitro~Freek!!!
04-23-2003, 08:56 AM
Thx man,
i'm glad you say its reliable because i just owned a duratrax overdrive and that engine was useless, never could tune it, always ran hot and no options for it!
I think im gonna go wiv the tr-15, i just wanna bash and dont want another expensive ride,
Its either the tr-15 or the ultima st gp truck?
Nitro~Freek!!!
DarkWraith
04-23-2003, 11:50 AM
Dunno about the Ultima... But the TR is great for bashing if you want a buggy and are on a budget and can't go 1/8 scale... (I prefer buggies to trucks) Read this whole TR thread to see the few things I have found to be the weakest points of the buggy and how u might strangthen them up a little. Other than those few things, I have broken the car really only once... 20mph into a turn barrier = broken A arm... Other than that she has seen some abuse...

Does the gs engine only have a needle valve adjustment like the carbs. that come on kyosho's gx engines?

Hi there guys. I got an TR-15 hte subary rally version. I´ve been very satisfied with it, but today I´ve had it. First I had some problems with the reception. Sometimes the throttle and the sttering stayed on, no respons, the rest you can figure it out. OK, I managed to avoid any big accidents. I went to the shop where I bought it from. They had a look on it, gave me a new servo and said the problem is solved. I was glad about it of course. Installed the new servo and went to a small track cruising. (The track isn´t anything special, but it´s near to were I live and here in Finland there isn´t too many tracks what I know of.) Well the same problem happened. I started the the engine again and drove on idle around in circles to see if the problem would come again. Suddenly the car floored itself and started turning in a big circle. I tried to stop it but it there was no response (and I´m not that fast of a runner). The car hit the curb at top speed and got serious damage. The chassie bent from the front and in the middle, which bent the axle between the middle and front differental gears. The disc break is twisted, the got some damages, etc. What can I do? Is itthe radio manufacters fault, is it my fault..? I´m very mad about this. I only had the car for a couple of weeks. Is there any guarantee things on this sort f accident? Share your thoughts with me.
Thank you

Hey guys, i just ordered a TR-15 ( my 5th car, and my 3th kyosho)
and i was wondering if there's a 2-speed for it, and is it worth to fit one? The gearbox and a lot of other parts look the same as from the Superten FW-04 (one of the reasons why i bought it).
Also, can anybody tell me how many bearings and what sizes go in the car?

I have had my inferno for 1 year. It was fine until I snapped the fuel tank during an encounter with a kerb. Now though it hardly starts. When it does it runs way too rich as unburnt fuel and oil gushes out of the exhaust. I am certain that the needle is set correctly. I think it may have something to do with the new tank.
Any ideas?

hey guys, i got my TR-15:cool: this thing is cool!
but already broke some parts: the clutch burned up, the rope on the pullstart broke, the glowplug died after 3 runs, and the front pilot shaft( the ting that holds the wheel) broke!! But i had a spare pullstart, glowplug, this clutch http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXT905&P=Z and the wheel thingie from my cheap tamiya fit perfectly!
tomorow i'm going fit the two needle carb from my fw-04 ( which has the same engine and drivetrain!
I also want to fit a 2-speed, but i need to know some things:
the stock gearing is 39T spur and 15T pinion gear
if i want a 37T spur i need a 17T pinion so it al fit's, right?
and what would be a nice toothnumber for the second gear, 41T ?
and a 13T pinion should go with that?

does anyone know where i can get a conversion kit for the Tr-15 buggy to the Tr 15 rally. ??
Can i use the Tr 12 OS engine on this buggy ?
The 2 speed is a good choice but i think its almost 70% of the kit value which is quite steeep just for a 2 speed ? dont you think.
well i would go for the conversion kit as it looks better than the buggy......

Just purchased a TR-15 Stadium Force. Is this the right thread to post in?
When it says partially assembled...it should read slightly or very little assembly. Replaced stock shocks imediately. Had some extra from ST-R. Had to go with heavier springs once I got the engine mounted. Had a severe squat. Bearings would have been nice. I will go through replacing bushings after break in. I own other kyosho's and actually started in RC with Kyosho.:)
The last vehicle I got was an OFNA Titan. It's a beast. This 1/10 size truck is going to be an adjustment. Can't run over everything in my way.
I have everything ready for Break In on the engine. What would be a good running temperature for the GS15S-CR engine. I was going to post some pictures when I finally get the body painted.

Finally got a day warm enough to stand outside for a few tanks run through. Ran a couple tanks inside. Started easy enough. Had all the exhaust fans on in the shop. Had quite the haze with them on. Well after a few more tanks of putting around in the driveway I let it rip down the street. I was happy with the response and speed. Probably going 30 mph or so. Haven't leaned it from factory settings yet. Temperatures right at 200 or less. I'll lean out till I'm running around 250 degrees and see how it runs then. Are there any other Stadium Force folks out there? Does Kyosho have a more frequented board?

I would have prefered a nicer paint job but was unable to get the results shown on the box. The blue to white with checkered flag would have been nice but I realize my limitations on that..HeHeh. It's starting easy....runs well for a one speed...It's low center and wide suspension seem to keep it from rolling over in a turn. Haven't gotten a ramp out to see how well it flies. The kit will need some items right off. Stiffer shock springs for one. It's got several holes for mounting shocks....may even take short ones. Ran it last tank with the body on and temps stayed around 200. Still running rich but it's going around 30 mph. I'll run it like this till spring when it warms up. I've got 2 proline crowdpleaser bodies on the way that I'll have a pro airbrush for me. I haven't glued the tires on yet...probably get some streets for the stock rims. They're to nice looking to race with. LOL. Also doesn't get as dirty as my Titan does. One or two runs in that beast and it was pretty messy.

tcable
05-26-2004, 02:49 PM
Donny, some suggestions for fun:
1. Replace bushings with bearings
2. Replace brake rotor with steel one
3. Replace stock muffler with tuned one
4. Get foam inserts for the tires if it doesn't have them
5. Put thicker oil in the shocks
6. Get bigger head to keep the engine cooler
7. 2-speed gearbox is very expensive, so I don't know if it is worth it.
8. I found the high speed needle needs to be about 3/4 turn out from closed here in Missouri. Your climate may require a different setting.
9. Tires matter quite a bit for cornering (especially in dirt), so get some that have a good bite.

I already got the bearings, a tunepipe (it came as standard...), different springs for the shocks. I´m driving mostly on asphalt so I´ll probably go for a set of slicks. I have my needle one round open. The gearbox is next on my list but I´m not sure is it worth the money. Has anybody tried it? Is there big difference on the performance? Does anybody know where I could get bodies for this car?

I also have thought about 1.9 hp in my tr-15, boy it would really fly with that engine and a two speed. Maybe just getting different gears would be more than enough. Although 1.9 hp may just break all the parts from the engine to the wheel. lol!

yes, i would recomend the OS 15 CVR (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=OSMG1993&FVPROFIL=++). it would work with the engine mount and it has the same short shaft and a rotary carb (similar to the stock GS-15R) so it would go in with no mods, just the mount.

I recently bought a TR-15 on ebay. I was wondering how well the the two-speed designed for the FW-04 fits on the TR-15 and how well it works. When RCCA initally reveiwed the TR-15 I remember they said you could use this two-speed on it. Also, its coming with a Picco .15RR and I am concerned that even if I put the two speed on it might not be able to handle the engine and the offroad conditions. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

hey guy ive owned a tr-15 for nearly a year broke 3 set of bulk heads one suspension arm support 3 fuel tanks i servo case bent 3 drive shafts straightend all of em (lol im pov what can i say) and 3 clutch shoes. lol i made some front bulk heads (aluminium very rough) and some front body post. but all these part broke while near concrete i,e, smashed fron suspension on gutter and a skate park fun box. bent the rear corner of the chassis gettin 2m air outta a bowl and just hitting gutters. but on dirt i cant break it i mean im doing bmx massive doubles and it just keeps going!! so stick to dirt and ur safe lol.

HI, I use to have a tr-15 for awhile but sold it for a super 10, but now I want to get back into the tr-15 so If any one has one for sale let me know
I read alot of ?'s about 2-speeds in the tr-15 but know one ever said they had one in there tr so I guess I will be the first to say I had one in mine. It was powered by a O.S. cv-r 12 with ported super 10 header and pipe. I raced dirt for awhile but then got a crazy idea to take to the local road race scene. I ran some associated springs and lowered it, put some hpi wheels and tires on it(only thing I could find at the time) and the thing hauled butt and handeled even better. my first day racing onroad and I was already keeping up with the local big boys. the only problem was they were smoking me on the straight. I did some research and fouund out about the 2-speed, dropped that sucker in and oh my god what a difference. needless to say you didn't really wanna mess with this car, or should I say buggy. that was kinda the joke on the track because here were these guys that had alot money dumped into there tc3's or rs4's and me, in my tr-15 buggy, and I was smoking them. I would have to guess i was in the top 5 out of about 75 people on average when it came to track times. I sold the buggy to buy my current super 10 but just haven't had as much fun as what I had with the buggy. it's a great off road/on road car. I think my local dirt track owner will let me race it against the gas trucks so I really wanna try to get in there and represent kyosho and the tr-15. well I will be checking in often so talk to you all later

I have a kyosho TR-15 stadium truck. I was wandering if anybody knew if and where I can find another bodystyle that would fit on it? And/or if I might be able to find a prepainted body? (Don't trust myself to paint one yet)

so how do you people like the Inferno TR-15? For 200USD on tower and a 25off coupon it is really good buy :D other than bearings is there any little stuff, i should get like a new manifold?
Can it be raised with a little work? to maybe 2" inchs high and can it handle taller tries and rims like maybe off a nitro mt or 1/8th buggy wheelies?

After reading all the posts I'm thinking my next R/Cer should be a TR-15. Just one problem which one. I like the looks of the Impreza but that may not work real well as pretty much every thing around me is gravel. Any Impreza owners out there that have run their's in gravel have any opinions. What about ride height? Looks to me like it could be a problem. The buggy and the stadium truck also hold my interest. Other than body style and rim size are there any differences?

I don't know if this works for Kyosho, but I used ball point pen springs in my RC 10T. If the dog bones are really sloppy try them in the diff and the hub.

the stadium is wider with same shock possitions and the rally version just has a bumbper and lower shocks, the springs are hareder for road but still sitlower i dont no how also u can upgrade to high speed diff it just lowers the over all ratio
any one who owns a buggy should bye the servo saver spring that wraps around it will take a little bit of slop outta the steering

Heya guys,
I've got a TR15
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/CircuitR/RC%20car/Inferno.jpg
This is a pic when I got it. It don't look like this now, I've put the hop up heatsink, harder springs, tuned header and GS15R dual needle carb.
But I just broke the conrod due to an overported header and high nitro. :(
So I'm currently running it back in.
I'll post up some pics of it in the weekend.
As for the car it's fun to drive, pretty reliable. I've only broken the pullstart once and that was in the weekend when I was running it in and I've only been through one clutch.
I recomend this kit for a first time nitro as it is simple to build and run.

I know, I'm post whoring.
But I took a pic of the buggy today, It's a bit bashed, but at least it's running now.
It should be fully run in at the end of the weekend.

Oh yeah, I got tamiya rally tires, they are way better than the original tires.

Hi guys,
This thread goes back like 4 years, it's crazy. Anyway, I bought an Inferno TR-15 buggy about 3 months ago. I have had a ton of fun with it, and broken it several times (it doesn't get along with curbs very well). I used to get parts from tower hobbies, but they have recently discontinued the model and all replacement parts for it.
Currently, I need pretty much an entire new rear end (the A frames, wheels, and tires). I would also like to purchase some other stuff that breaks often (it's a shame they never made more durable suspension parts for this car). Does anyone know of an alternative supplier to tower hobbies? I have tried searching on the net and going to Kyosho's website, but haven't been able to find what I am looking for.
I would hate to have to retire this car, especially since it isn't that old. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
