they are crap, dont get them. they are the last tire you want for crawling. the compound is hard and the dont work well. get anything but imex. any of the new tires are a better choice. heres a list of the basc ones...

M2 and M3 moabs
M2 and M3 mashers
M2 and M3 hammers
M2 and M3 badlands
losi rock claws

Don't be so quick to trash Imex. The Imex Rubicons are a great rock crawling tire. I have seen them dominate some comps. Most of the other Imex tires were made long before crawling took off, so they shouldn't be expected to rule the rocks. I will always have a set of Rubicons mounted and ready to go. You never know what might work on the rocks you're running. I usually start with Losi's or Pro-Line Badlands. Some guys swear by Mashers. The big thing to remember is that there isn't one perfect tire.

Check out the March issue for a guide to 2.2 crawling tires. I hate to let the cat out of the bag, but we're also doing a much expanded version of that guide in our upcoming RC Rock Crawler special issue.

Oh yea, forgot about the Rubicons. Ive heard they are decent too. Proline is coming out with the new Flatirons. Also, there is supposed to be a crawling tire by Panther coming out very soon.

But to say what the best tire is, thats impossible.. there is no such thing as the best tire. Some will work better than others in some situations, and others will work better in different situations. Also, traction changes when the rocks are wet, muddy, sandy, dry, etc... Then there is the fact that the rocks that i crawl on arent the same as the ones you crawl on. River bed rocks arent going to provide the same amount of traction as granite or red rock. So to say that one tire is the best is impossible. However, there might be a tire in your area that works better than others, but we cannot help you figure that out. Ask what other people in your area are running and try to figure it out that way.

Hey mr. luv my Ax10.....I also like mine. Tires are coming out of the woodworks!! If you also want the scale look, you can try to find some SDI Trail Doctor XL, they are tough to find though. FlatIrons look good though. I've run Moabs and the Lizards mostly, but have some Irons on the way....along with ton more I get to glue....Matt's cat out of the bag.....

anyway, if you don't like what you see....hold on and a new tire will come out before you know it. Make sure you get some beadlocks too, so you can change your mind!

J

For almost every kind of rock I've ever driven on, this would be the answer.

Here is a bit of advice:

Try out tires until you find the one that works best for your rigs setup, weight, and your driving style. You don't have to buy them, go to a comp and ask the Team RCC Guys to borrow, and/or give you some advice. Unlike the old days, there are many tire choices now, and the tires all have their stong and weak points.

what are PL flat irons and hammers like

what are PL flat irons and hammers like

From the testing I have done on them, and I have them in both M2 and M3 compounds, the flat iron climb well, but lack side hill stability, while the hammers are the opposite.

One note, the M3 compound while they are super soft and sticky, are almost too soft. They tend to roll over and scrub too much making your turning radius too wide, and also getting stuck in holes and cracks too easy. Plus the soft carcus allows the lugs to fold too easy so you actually lose some of the traction that you get with the M2's. Yet another problem with M3's, is the inconsitancy of the bead thickness and diameter, making it almost impossibly to mount them properly on an all beadlock rims other than Pro-line's 8-shooters, which have a .25 offset, so you lose track width.

Hope this helps, and yes, I have shared my testing reslts and opinions on the tires directly with Pro-line's engineers already, we'll see if they change anything in the future.
