Hello boys, its been awhile...

I just recently purchased a used Losi XX-4 for $20 at a garage sale. The chick selling it had kicked her man out and was selling his stuff for cheap. Lucky, eh?

The car is great, I took the thing completely apart, cleaned it, put new bearings in and everything. I was so excited that I ordered $270 worth of brand new electronics to go in it. Here's my setup (then I will ask my question I promise!):

Novak Dually esc
Speedgems 12T dbl
18T pinion
Futaba Mag Spt (had to go cheap here)
Sanyo 3000 cells (had to build my 1st saddle)
Deans connectors
hard wired the motor
3 caps on the motor w/ schottky diode
shrink wrapped the cells
good soldering job

Hers the prob...

When I hit the throttle, the car is OK for a second, then it SHOOTS into full throttle for about 2 seconds, then I get control again (then the cycle repeats). I have also noticed that the steering locks when this happens.

My initial thought was the radio, but there is no glitching, only the throttle/front wheels sticking. That led me to the esc. This is a brand new esc. I have bought several Novak esc's in the past and they have all been excellent. You guys think I should call them and get them to send me a new one, or do you have any other suggestions to resolve the problem? Thanks...

i had a problem just like this. i just bought a brand new futaba 2pc and was testing it out in my rc10L3. I had used a hi-tec radio in this car and had no problems at all. but when i tried the futaba i got mad glitching, but it was only when i gave it full throttle. i tried the radio in another car with the same ESC and it worked fine... i think it was the graphite chassis on my L3. btw i was using a novak dual fusion ESC.

"The chick selling it had kicked her man out and was selling his stuff for cheap. Lucky, eh?" <-- LOL! Remind me not to get involved with this chick! ;)

If you think it's the ESC, the easiest way to tell would be to try a different ESC in your XX-4 with everything else you currently use in it (radio, esc, etc). If it solves the problem, send the Dually back to Novak and they'll replace it, no questions asked. If it doesn't help, I'd try a different receiver next.

Good advice Nairb. I'd follow it if I had another esc! Oh well, simple problems call for complicated solutions I guess. I'll keep you informed; let me know if you have any other thoughts. Thanks!
