I have a speed gem 13x2 and I have it set at 15 degrees advance timing. Right now the motor feels pretty hot after a minute of running...do I have it too far advance or is just about right?

I have a 12 turn and haven't advanced it any. It gets hot after a full batt. Maybe change your gearing. If it's too hot, usually dropping teeth on the pinion helps.

Yeah, 15 degrees should be fine, I'd worry more about your gearing than anything else. Also, mods will get hotter than most stocks do, it's just something we have to deal with..... :)

I'd either gear down to compensate for the timing, or set the timing back to 5-10 degrees. Setting the timing back a little should help the most because it will save battery life.

I've had bad luck with SPGem2's...
I've come off the track with a 11x3
at 240* with 0* of timing...HOT!!!
that was a T3 with a 90/13gear on a large track using 3000smh batt.
granted I have a heavy triger finger but please...give me a break...
I haven't seen a D4 burn yet but $$ doesn't grow on trees.
I am now avoiding junk motors for racing...
