Newbie is a term used by people who are trying to make themselves feel like they are more than they really are.

In fact, take me for example. I may seem like I don't know a lot about R/C cars right now, but then if you consider I first started into R/C cars back in 1989 and just happen to loose interest in 1994 due to other things, than am I a newbie or not? Who really cares. If you like R/C cars, then don't pay attention to what others may say that discourage or upset you and listen to the people who offer good sound advice. And enjoy, it's a hobby.

Don't sweat it man. Nobody means anything by it. Sometimes its even to your benefit because when they think you are a "newbie" because you get more patient and thorough answers. There are few people in here that have condescending attitudes but even they typically are worth listening to. Sometimes they gripe about repeat questions when it would take less effort to skip over the question and not reply at all. But, everyone in here is really cool and even though I've been into this longer than some of the members have been alive I learn something every time I log on and that's what's important. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey, you're whining about being called a newbie. Do you think it will help your cause by calling JP "numbnuts" in a topic you obviously know nothing about? Use some common sense.

guys that have been in the sport for a long and know a crap load about cars, and have a ton of experience can call me what ever the heck they like, so long as they help me out and teach me. when you are new at anything the more experienced people get to rag on you a little, it is kind of an unspoken rule, in return for them giving you sh#$, you get to soak up all the knowledge that they have acquired.
so bring on the names.....newbie, junior, squirt, youngin, kid, hey you, tiger, kiddo, i don't care!!!
just be sure to teach me whatever you can!!!!! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/wink.gif

I'd say "newbie" is a politically incorrect term. Even though I'm very against being politically correct it just sounds like a stereotype that says anyone who is just getting started in R/C doesn't know squat. Some "new people" really know their stuff but some of the "kids" need to get over the "it's so cool I must have a Novarossi" are what makes the term newbie so offensive to people who are new but aren't overzealous.

The term "newbie" is alright with me. To me you can never learn to much or know all there is to know about this hobby or anything else. So to me EVERYONE is a Newbie.....and i bet you guys that think since you have been in this for a long time are not Newbies yourself....well your wrong. Everyone learns something new each day.

You guys that been in this for a long time got to admint you learn something new about this hobby everyday don't you. No one really knows everything about everything.....if you don't like being called a newbie just say so. Iv been in this hobby for 3 years now and have had 5 to 6 differnet cars and because of this i have learned alot of stuff about each car and how they are different...from motors to batts and ESC differnet set-ups and so on. I am a newbie....i mean i can solder good and make it hold, but IT DON"T LOOK TO PRETTY! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Just be happy you have this website to post and ask questions.....most of the guys are really cool and you can get a laugh out of while they help you along.

There is no stupid questions, just stupid answers!

Should I change my name to new phart? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

j/k... LOL

BTW, I got started in gas powered u-control airplanes in 1959 (yikes!) when I was 8 years old.

After a stint in the US Army, I got into R/C airplanes in 1974.

I got into gas powered R/C cars in 1975.

I got back into r/c in 2001.

I'm a newbie all over again. No big deal...........

Everyone is a "Newbie" in the beginning. Everyone in this forum including the originators at one time or other was a "Newbie" to this hobby or sport. I'm a "newbie" now, but the more I log on, the more I learn, and someday I'll graduate from "newbie" to experienced. It's just a classification of someone who's starting at the beginng. I used to be a "rookie" too http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/wink.gif Don't sweat it.

old phart,

How long have you been in SoCal? I was wondering if you had ever flown with the B.I.R.D's, Rockwell, or any of the other clubs in this area that I was affiliated with. How about the gas cars in '75, do you remember a man called Nehi?

You never know, we may have met before.

sorry about that traxxas...just get paranoid sometimes. IF you subscribe to RCCA you wont have to be worried about being called a newbie. They have all the best stuff. If you subscribe to the articles do you read them? Its diffucult indeed...

Half the guys at my LHS think that every person under 18 is a newbie that owns a traxxass (I'm not a big fan of traxxass). I asked for a spur gear one time and they immediately ask if its for a traxxass. I dont like traxxass cars so I bought a TC3 but i think its kinda of an insult (I'm the youngest racer at my track) to be asked if you have a traxxass (no offense to people that have traxxass).

rvrrun:

I did belong to the San Fernando Valley R/Cers for one year, but due to the meetings being held on weeknights, and I worked swing shift, I could never go to them. So, I just flew at Sepulveda Basin and did my own thing.

Same with my gas car back in '75. It was an Associated, and I just drove it in parking lots and entertained myself and my buddies. Never got into competition or anything.

I used to buy a lot of my stuff from Daves Custom Models in Glendale. Dave eventually sold his shop and went to Robins Hobby's and even Hobby Shack for awhile.

I helped stock the shelves and open the Hobby Shack store in Encino back in '78. We had to wear slacks; shirt and tie back then behind the counter. Times have changed!

When you still cannot handle being called "newbie", you still are, when you can, you are not any more, why? because it is no fun to say that when you do not care, so, newbie on!, Badracer appears to have graduated

Luckily, i came to this board with a pilithera of useless R/C knowledge(and the BB was a month old) that i skipped the whole newbie thing, maybe i am an old fart here. who knows
Well, i guess Steve must be the oldest fart around these ways....

Thanx XXXER! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif You are right, if it still bothers you to be called a newbie then you are still one. But i also felt this way when i started out and i didn't want any help from anyone cuz i thought i knew what i was doing......boy was i ever WRONG!

Learn to deal with being called a newbie, like i said before, no one call know everything so i still think of ppl being newbies them self.

I still have alot to learn, like all the little tips and tricks. You will know when your not a newbie anymore when you start helping ppl with their problems cuz you have already been there and done that!

Im 16 and i know alot of stuff about this hobby but not all of it. And tc3guy i know how you feel.....to get respect at this one hobby shop i had to prove to them i knew what i was doing. I think theres always going to be a self-centered person at all the hobby shops you go to.....theres always someone that thinks that since your young that you don't know anything. All you gotta do is show them ya know what your doing. On the other side ppl that do act like that and are willing to help someone is a good thing.

Learn...ask questions....get answers!

I really hate it when a worker in you lhs thinks they know more than you but don't. One time I went in and asked for a diff gear for a losi triple xnt. They went and said a triple NXT and went to get the diff gear for the nxt and they looked shocked when I told them it wasn't the right part. Who's the newbie now???
