To tell you the truth, I've broken in motors the proper way, and other times I've just popped a brand new motor into my car and sent it out on the track to shred some asphalt or dirt. I've never noticed a difference in the motor's performance or longevity either way.

If the guy really only ran it twice, I'd say there's nothing you really have to do to get it in top shape, it probably already is.

If you don't really believe him, or just want to do something for your own piece of mind, you could replace the brushes, clean and lube the bearings, and turn the comm, or at least use a comm-stick on the comm.

There are only four points of mechanical contact in your motor- the two bearings, and the two brushes. The bearings only need to be kept clean and lubricated and not broken in, leaving the brushes. One of the best ways to break in the brushs while reducing wear on the comm is by running it in the car. The load of the car on the motor causes high current to flow through the brushes. In a non-seated brush, the portion making contact will heat up to a high temperature, and will quickly wear away, exposing fresh brush material behind it. This has the result of a minimal time for high spots on the brushes to wear the commutator, and causes the brushes to seat very quickly. Once the brush has seated, its wear returns to normal with minimal commutator damage.
