View Full Version : Are the original RC10T's collector items??

I am getting back into rc racing after an eight year break. I dusted off my truck and found it to be in pristine condition. It is the first RC10T and it has almost every hop-up (and original stuff saved) available. Am I better off racing this or keeping (selling) it as a collector car?
Thanks,
MIKE

I'd say race it! I don't think it is really a collector's item, unless you find just the right person. Usually people who collect vintage R/C cars go for the Tamiya stuff from the early 80's. Its always cool to see people racing the RC10's and 10T's at tracks. Especially since if the owner is a good driver they still whoop the guys with the newest stuff out with all the blue or purple aluminum parts!

Thanks for the input. What should I do as far as speed controlers go? Dual mode (forward only) or a novak forward and reverse? I want to be able to run stock and modified motors with one speed control. Are the dual profile ESC's more of an electronic slipper clutch or a 'transmission'. By that I mean do the cars launch differently or brake differently?
Thanks,
MIKE

Those trucks, if you restore it to original, which you said you had the parts, will go for about 200, if you include the gop ups and let them know, 300+.

Whatever you do I'd not recommend racing it.

That'd be asking for broken parts, which are all but impossible to replace anymore. A-arms go for 20 bucks and up onold trucks like that.

I'd say restore it to good condition and display it.

Or maybe run it a little in your yard but please don't race it. It's too valuable and EXTREMELY outclassed at the track anyway.

It will break and you won't be able to fix it, and then it will be worth ZERO for display or for running.

It's up to you, but I GUARANTEE it's a collectible. those other guys are misinformed.

I collect old R/Cs and already have two mint RC10Ts, along with others. I still run mine, but gently, and not often. I'd prefer to beat on the new stuff, which runs better, and is easier to fix, and cheaper.

There ya go, from somebody who sounds like they know what they are talking about. Maybe you should hang onto the RC10T for nostalgia, and pick up a T3 to race.

HPIGUY, thats not entirely true. The 10T is still very competitive; I still race one, and parts are cheap. But it is true that is is a collectors item because you cant buy a new one anymore, just like a RC10, LXT, etc.

And where does one get all these cheap parts for RC10s and Ts.

The world would love to know, so we can get them too.

You can get them direct from associated! I've done that already. I don't know where you got the idea that you couldn't get parts for it any more.

If it's broken don't look at me.
