Different motors, different speeds, different prices! Electric motors are made with a magnets and an armature, the armature is the part that spins and is the main part which decides whether a motor is stock or modified. A stock motor is the motor which is used in Stock Class racing (hence the name) and has 27 turns of wire on the armature. The less turns, the faster the motor is. Modified motors (used in Modified Racing :) ) are anything less than 27 turns, and also, modifieds sometimes have a additional modifier, single, double, triple, and so on, which means that that many strands of wire were wrapped. So a 18x2 has 2 strands of wire wrapped around 18 times, and is faster than a stock, 27(x1) turn motor. But less is not always better, less turns means faster, but usually with a loss of torque and sometimes overall control. Putting a 9 turn in a big truck wouldn't be the greatest of ideas. And also, less turns means the motor will **** the battery dry faster. And as far as I remember (this early in the morning) the number of wires wrapped, effects the torque range of the motor. An 18x1 would have more torque in the lower RPM range than an 18x4. Also, modifieds normally have bearings, and adjustable timing, to affect the magnetic field. Anyone have anything to add or correct? I'm tired of typing!

Also, for an RC car, you will want to start out with a stock motor. The better you get at driving will allow you to control a faster car, like a car with a mod motor.
