Hey all.
I read in a recent issue of RC Car Action how to rewire your ESC. They mentioned about how drivers like to cut or shorten the wires on the ESC's, with no extra wire. Does this increase performance? How much? Is it substantial?
Between my motor wires, and my ESC wires, I have a very large amount of wire (probably about 8 or 9 INCHES worth), enough that I had to tie it up so it wouldnt find its way into the rear axle. (actually, too late)! With a tie, this setup works fine, but I would be happy to shorten the distance if I can SEE some performance increase. Is it better to shorten the wires from the ESC, or work from the motor side?
FWIW - Traxxas rustler, Rooster ESC, stock motor.
Any input is appreciated.

Shorter wires will definitely be more efficient. As to whether or not you'll get noticable difference in performance, I don't know. The other downside of trimming the wires is that if you ever move that speed control to another vehicle, you may have cut them too short. This means you'd have to add wire length, and solder/splice joints are never as efficient as straight wire.

Since you're not into serious racing, judging by the vehicle and speedo, I'd say just tie it up. This will be less hassle, and it won't void your speedo's warrantee!

By shortening your wires you will increase the efficency of your setup. This will let your motor use more energy that was once wasted overcoming the resistance of the extra wire. Unless your driving skills are such that, you find your lap times in any given heat almost identical, you will not notice the hundredths of a second that the new setup (shorter wires) will give you. If, as you say, the wire is so long that it gets tangled in the rear axle, I would recomend shortening the wires if only to prevent that from happening.

Shorter wires are more efficient. I suggest you get the RPM rustler ESC mount. It lets you put your ESC where your old speed control servo was. This will allow you to have shorter wires between your motor and battery. There website is www.rpmrcproducts.com (http://www.rpmrcproducts.com)
