Batteries are rather durable...
Usually a motor is more sensitive to heat than anything...if you OVERGEAR (big pinion, small spur) a motor the coatings on the windings can burn off and poof (smoke) instant junk.
I've only seen problems with Tamiya conectors, and burning overgeared motors motors...and fully charged batteries shorted out.
The "hi-performance" batteries that I use lately (stock metal 3000) they just get hot only charging at a modest rate of 4.25 amp and a sensitive peak threshold...
heat isn't good but Icing a pack nowdays is WORSE!!! I do know some people who put packs on cooling fans when they are done runing but this isn't necessary either.
Your senario sounds fine...wate till you start running 10 turn motors that causes some heat...

I don't think it's possible to overheat them while running. I'm assuming good connectors like Deans, good soldered battery bars, a normal size wire. I have seen some NiMh's explode after this dork re-peaked them like 3 times. It was kind of a 4th of July effect. Take care.

My batteries feel pretty warm to the touch after a run,so I put my MIP II guage from my nitro cars on them just to see how hot they are and they come in between 115F and 120F all the time. This is my first electric so is that too hot? It's a Stampede running a Speedgem 2 Sapphire 17 turn single wind, with stock gearing. The battery power is Trinty RC-2400 racing packs. If this is too hot I will drop a tooth or two on the pinion.Thanks.
