The motor is naturally going to get warm. If you have the stock gearing, then the motor shouldn't be getting hot enough to cause any damage. If you wnat try and keep your motor a little cooler, try installing a motor heatsink. They should be readily available through any good hobby retailer.

get a can of air (you can get these at office depot) and turn it upside down and spray it on your motor. the stuff that comes out is dry ice. a lot of people at my club use that

RC= Radio Control.
NOT REMOTE CONTROL!!!
REMOTES ARE 4 TV'S!!
Nikko's and Tycos are
EVIL!! They are a discrace to the RC world.
If you wanna hang with the big guy's, TRASH THE NIKKO!

Motor heat sinks would be best bet. The larger the pinion (with stock spur gear), the more heat you'll generate. But as was already mentioned, as long as your ratios are within reason (within 2-3 teeth of the recommended pinion), it shouldn't do any harm. If you're really pushing it, you may cause damage, regardless of how hot it is.

As for artificial cooling, I'm just guessing here, but I'd personally just go for a fan. More rapid cooling methods I know aren't recommended on batteries, so I wouldn't do it on a motor either. Although the canned air is just "air", the pressure system cools it a great deal. Probably wouldn't be a problem, but I tend to be on the conservative side in taking care of my gear, since I have to buy it all.
