I'm looking to get a touring car. Not really to race just one to have fun with. It would be my first on. Which is the best for a beginner. And what about the HPI Rally, would that be a good one. I know it's on and off road which would be ok. If anyone has an openion let me know

I would get a TC3 racer kit. Its only like $149 or $159. I wouldnt get an HPI rally (nothing against HPI) but the car is too low to the ground to do some real offroading. But it would probably be good for ya since its just going to be a play car.

Since you want an on/off road touring car, I heard that the Tamiya TBO1 got a good rating. RCCA said that the shaft was too heavy (can be fixed with a carbon driveshaft). Here are the ratings that RCCA gave it:
Instructions- very good
Parts fit/finish- very good
Durability- very good
Overall performance- good
Likes- Exceptionally high-quality body/interior set, well designed dust seals and inner body keep dust out, super tough gear diffs, tons of tamiya upgrades are available
Dislikes- Bushings (easy replaced with bearings), foam tire inserts not included (can be bought), steel center drive shaft is very heavy (can be replaced with carbon).
Hope this helps

Get the rally I have one and it is a very very good kit,I bought it for the same reasons on/off road,When it comes to racing the tracks that are used are based on BMX tracks not rc tracks(offroad tracks)and the tracks arent true to scale so thats why people think they arent any good,Go to www.hpiracing.com (http://www.hpiracing.com) and look up the rally forum ask those guys what you should do,look at the diferent things guys do with them.

The best tourer is is ofcourse, the mr4 tc pro.but its sounds like you want to drive in a parking lot or something, so go with a tc3, so you dont have to deal with belts. if you ge a tc3 i suggest you get the team becouse for the extra 50 bucks , you get over 100 bucks worth of worth while hop ups.

I would not recommend the rally. the ground clearance is too low to go over grass very well. Why not get a truck you can drive anywhere?

The TC3 is a great car, but for a beginer and for a car mainly for play, you may want to look into Tamiya. Most of there kits are very easy to assemble and might not go as fast as some other higher performance cars but if you are new to "real" r/c you will probably not notice this much.
The TB01 is a good choice as well as some of there T0L1 series cars which are very easy to assemble.
hope this helps some
