If you're on a limited budget, I would run it "as-is" for the moment. First things to buy when you get some extra cash would be a set of bearings, a good modified motor in the 18+ turn range, and a good ESC.

I know this is unlikely but is there a rally conversion for the tamiya mini cooper? If there is where could I get it? Cause I think it would be pretty cool.

The mini is a lot of fun. I would take Steve's advice and install bearings. I would do this first only because I hate dis/re-assymbling cars. I left the rubber hose dampers out of the shocks (a tip I found somewhere) and the car seems to handle fine for what I want it to do.

I dont think you will need a rally conversion, the ride height isn't too bad and it seems to handle short grass and dirt pretty well.

btw, I bought Dynamite bearings instead of the Tamiya upgrade kit (much cheaper).

i own a m03 cooper,i love it like my child,i bought the bearings the same day i bought the car, much easier to install.i run a tekin rebel, and a reedy modified,9 turn i belive, and for stock i have extreme motosports bohemoth.this little car flies, also if you can buy some hpi tires soon,my tamiya radials were bald after 6 runs.

Are you guys talking about 1/10 Mini Cooper (#58211)? I am interested in getting the same car. I was curious about Rvrrun's comment about running on short grass and dirt. Is the ground clearance really that good? I have a Pajero XB, and was looking for another rally-like car to buy. Have you guys checked out the 1/8 scale gas version? Sweet.....too bad I'm not into gas cars.

Well I know I'm talking about the 1/10th electric version, I just ordered it so when it gets here and I finish building it I'll post my comments about it. Oh speaking of which, are there any tips on building it, or and tools and other stuff I should get, other than paint?

as for short grass i dunno, but on hard dirt its rather fun,i personally would like a little more ground clearance.running regular touring size rims with rally type tires might help with this problem.as for building tips, its rather easy and tamiya instructions are the best.

I have the 1/10th 'racing' version. I dont know the cat# of the kit but it is the one that comes with the polycarbonate body.

The grass I have run on is very short. I havn't measured the ground clearance but it can handle just about any obstacle in my house, front or back yard. Its a great little car to beat up.

With a different body, larger tires/wheels could be put on it to gain more ground clearance.

I got it today so now all I gotta do if build it and paint it, and then wait until the snow melts and washes all the salt off of the roads, or just drive it inside.

Can't wait!

Took about 10 hours to build, just gotta paint the body. It runs great man! one little tap on the throttle and it goes, kinda hard to run inside though because of that. I'm gonna paint the body red.
