I was wondering anyone know a cheaper place to buy shotkey diodes like through and electic place or something. Five bucks for two is a little pricy when you have a bunch of motors.

i don't know of any place that sells shottky diodes other than rc stores. I wouldn't try using a regular diode and it would take a while to figure out which one you need. I would just pay the five bucks and not risk it.

How about Radio Shack or and online elctronics supply outlet.

Actually, check out www.teamnovak.com (http://www.teamnovak.com) and in one of the sections, it says why you have to use those specific types if diodes, i used to know, but i forgot, so do not use ones you find at RS

Dont they warn against using regular diodes?

A schottky diode of the same capacity as recommended by the manufacturer (lets say Novak in this case) form a different source will be fine. Novak uses an 8 amp 35v schottky, go to Radio Shack or another supplier and see if they are cheaper.

I'm not saying that Novak buys from Radio Shack, but I'm sure they dont manufacture them on-site.

nevermind

"The Schottky diode provides a return path for the free-wheeling current of the motor (which can be destructive to the ESC). In the Explorer and Duster II, the Schottky diode is on the ESC's circuit board. Since the ESC runs cooler when the Schottky diode is installed on the motor, the efficiency of the ESC increases, which allows for longer run times. A 45 volt, 9 amp, 0.4 forward voltage drop Schottky diode (or better) must be installed between the positive and negative motor brush tabs for proper performance. Additional Schottky diodes are available in Novak Accessory Kit #5640. "

hope this helps

the diodes in the escs are the same ones you can buy in stores. I've seen them at www.web-tronics.com (http://www.web-tronics.com) and also www.radioshack.com (http://www.radioshack.com) there are others too but a Schottky diode is a Schottky diode.
