measuring wheelbase?

what exactly is the wheelbase of a vehicle. center well to center well or front of front to back of back well. trying to replace bodies on some older cars. it seems that not all 1/10 car bodies are the same.

HPI 1/10th car bodies seem to fit most touring cars relativly well
