Well I finally got around to getting my ass up in the morning and drove outside of town to the local bash pit which is a constructions site used primaraly for dirt deposits and refills for dumptrucks.
Me and seven other guys showed up and started tearing up the hills and this was my first time hill climbing so I had an absolute blast...until..... the twin HPI Baja 5b's fired up and then it was a run for my life cause those things were fast and nasty!!!
I think I can, I think I can....

Yeah, they were modified to, so they were loud and freaking fast. Made my Revo sounded like a tinny Radio shack car in comparison :(

I have the Baja 5b.. wish I could find a place like that to run it... I ran mine yesterday with a friend who also had the 3.3 Revo... He stopped running until I was done.. about 40 minutes on the tank.. His comment was, I like my Revo, but that
&%$#@ thing will drive over it like a speedbump... The baja is also much quicker... mine is modded 29CC with pipe...

one day at the track and now bashing on dirt, love the location too, i love hill climbing. :D

Ouch, $1000 is hard to justify for me.

No doubt man. But its just 1000 up front. A lot of us spend more than 1000 on a car/truck, its just over time through hop ups. A 100 dollar servo here, a 200 dollar big block there, aluminum parts another couple hundred etc.
A lot of the baja guys claim that very few hop ups are needed, and that the ongoing operating expense is much lower. No starter boxes, glow plugs, nitro fuel etc.

Yeah, thats true. The problem for me is that I only have so much money at a time, so sure, my BL Maxx may be nearing $1000, but I am slowly getting there. I think the problem is that people don't have $1000 to spend at a time, rather slowly building up a car/truck for a year.
The Baja is awesome though.

But im surprised that when people get into buggy or truggy racing, and kit is like 600 bucks, then engine for like 300, servos another 150, starter box, radio and all the extra gear like temp gun, spares, and we are already nearing 1500 bucks, im surprised that more people havent got the Baja.

I thought the same thing, but i purchased one last summer and never looked back... i probably have close to $2000 invested in it, but that was done over a few months.. The Baja out of the box is fine, I changed the engine and exhaust because I wanted to go faster... It will run fine with the stock setup and you can upgrade as needed...

Yup, i dont think people want to drop that 1000 at once.
Your perspective changes as you slowing invest in a car. Like a $600 buggy now, $100 servo l8r, $50 tires l8r.. You don't see it as "expensive", but still might cruise past the $1000 limit.
Thats prolly a reason that Baja 5B's $1000 scares off people.
Also, its not that "why doesnt anyone have it", its like where are you going to run it, store it lol all that stuff.
But its damm easy to run. Simple tuning, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP gas that you can find anywhere on this planet. LONG run times, low maintenance, and its a blast to drive something of that size.

I understand that point and yes the $1000 entry price isn't cheap... As far as alot of people not owning them... don't be so sure.. Its probably one of the hottest R/C's going right now...
Yes, finding a place to run it can be a bit of a pain in the rear... You need a large area to open it up.. your average track for 1/10 or 1/8th scale isn't big enough... I know, I tried... still... won't ever give it up and I have no regrets at all....
