I am going back to electric trucks and cant decide between the HPI Wheely king and the Traxxas Stampede XL. I am looking for a back yard basher that is fast, great jumping, and durable. I have narowed it down to these two. They are both around the same price, size, and are from two great companies. i know that the stampede can reach 30 mph, but i dont k now about the hpi wheely king. Does anyone kknow how fast the Wheely King can get? and does anyone have a recomendation on which one to get?

From what I've heard, the wheelie king is only good for wheelies and that gets boring fast, plus I don't like HPI so I'd get the Stampede or possibly save for an E-Maxx.

My son has a new wheelie king and he loves it. It isnt suppossed to be a speed king and he does more with it than do wheelies...speed aint everything dude......
He like his Pede as well but they are both good trucks, just depends on what YOU want to do with em.......

my friend had the old Traxxas Stampede (he actually had/has all the old electric Traxxas offroad vehicles) and he liked it for a little basher. It was pretty fast and he never broke a part. Plus from what i hear the new Stampede is a little better from the other older one.
Heres what rccaraction says in the September 06 issue(this is not a review but there test drive :teacher: :
~The Stampede with its bigger meats is easier to control in the air.(easier then the new electric Rustler)~Wether it be dirt, sand, clay,or pavement the Traxxas Ruslter and Stampede tracked straight and were always easy to control. With 6-cell power, they spun there tires under acceleration but didnt loop out or take of out of control.~ The brakes on the Xl-5 control is plenty strong and we didnt see any fade after an hour of almost contant driving.~The Stampede and its gearing advantadge blew by the Rustler on straights.~The Stampede is plenty tough.~After two solid days of bashing neither was sidelined other then the need for a fresh battery.
Top Speed:
6-cell, stock pinion(19t)-26.2MPH
7-cell, speed pinion(23t)-31.2MPH

The Whelly King im not to sure about. Heres what rccaraction March 07 says about it :teacher: :
"The Wheely King is not a high-end race machine. Instead, its a high centered, short wheel base, 2WD, wheelie-poppin' fun truck. ~It has a tube frame like a real monster truck, oversize wheels on deep chrome dish wheels, ultra cool realistic axles, potential for 4WD, 3-link suspension and even a battery and a charger.~Grab a finger full throtle from a stop, and the front wheels are thrown skywards as the truck races away(theres a built in wheely bar)~The somewhat stiff rear suspension will hop around abit if you hit a bump jsut right but overallthe truck was exceptionally easy to drive.~Without the rear cross-brace the suspension was as soft as the front but high speed handling suffered dramtically(leave brace on unless your rock crawling)~Super easy to jump and slightly bounced on landing

All qoutes have come from RC CAR ACTION issues March 07 and Sept 06 and have either been sumarized or wording as been slightly changed. I own neither vehicle and was just adding info from RC CAR ACTION. So no chewin me out because I do not own them :p .

I 20th the stampede.
Even with stock a-arms it should be near indestructible. With RPM's, it should with stand a nuclear attack. The rpm carriers are a must once you can get the money. The amount you spend setting it up in all four corners will save you over having to buy the smaller bearings every other run.
Mine took many 30+mph hits into walls, fences and I only ever broke a single c-hub. Everything else was worn drivetrain stuff.

The Stampede is a great truck. I love mine, great basher truck with great part support and aftermarket stuff. I am looking into getting a Wheely King next though. They are coming out with a 4WD one...combine that with some longer suspension links to make the wheelbase about 12", you will have a truck that can run all the Maxx bodies and be pretty good offroad with the 4WD and suspension travel.

what are the best batterie packs to run with the Stampede XL? Fast and Long Lasting no more than 40$ --$50 bucks :D they have to come from TowerHobbies.com (dont ask! long story) so if anyone wants to drop in some links that would be great!

duratrax 4200's with deans ONLY work wonders .... they can take a mild Pede to an EXTREME PEDE in the matter of seconds ... Check the paintjobs for sale thread to see mine ..... its not the baddest in the land, actually it is where I am ... but it scoots either way :D ...

yup-yup,...vinnie's Pede is Butthaulis-maxximus.
Wheelie king is cool for scale looks, can be made 4x4, andcrawl, but for the backyard basher ulimate?
two words: traxxas Stampede.

I have both - king and XL5... they are certainly two different trucks.
For better speed and handling, Stampede wins hands down. much more stable, handles a lot better, jumps great, and is pretty fast right out of the box. Tons and tons of hop ups also.
For crawling and playing around, the king is a fun truck. it can go fast with a new motor, but needs some work to really handle well. and the wheelies of course are always fun.
Of the two, i like the King. i've converted it to 4wd and added a 17 turn motor, and it runs great. I live in the woods and it's a blast going out back and crawling over anything i can, or churning through some mud (places the stampede won't make it due to the 2wd) - plus, has a much more scale look.
it's really a matter of what your priorities are

well all depends on several things really ...... How much cash you have and how fast you want to go without messing around with gearing and how long do you want to run ....... What type of charger are you going to be using .... That makes a difference too ....
Heres my suggestion to you if your just starting out .... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCUH3&P=ML

if you have a 7 cell would you have to mess with the gearing?

the ib3600 pack is the best out of those three, as it has better quality cells and higher capacity, and no memory effect being ni-mh.
You *may* have to adjust the gearing a little with a 7 cell. You will have a little more power with it, and might have to go down 1 or two teeth on the pinion if the motor heats up.

sorry for my ignorance, but which ones are the ib3600's
