I just got a kit and was playing with ESC I purchased with it - the default setting on it was the "Modified" setting. I ran it like that for a few days, and then changed it to the "stock" setting (I have a stock motor). ANd the difference is vast! It seems WAY slower! So, my question is this: what benefits to I *gain* by NOT running the modified setting on the ESC which seems to give me more power at every end??

Something is not right.
The stock setting shoul have a lower drive freq., and thus give you much more 'punch'.
I would say something else is the cause of your power fade. I run the stock profile for everything. Punch is good.
See ya...

I kind of had a similar question but mine had to do with my Atom ESC. what would happen if I had a stock motor on the modified setting? Is this bad for the ESC or what?

No, the Modified profile won't harm anything. A car's top speed would be the same with either profile, the only difference is in the drive & brake frequencies, which makes the car feel punchier(stock profile) or smoother(mod profile).
