Got an emaxx, all metal drive shafts, stock tires, stripping plastic hexs, should I go aluminum?, for now i had to just glue the hex into the hub on the wheel because when this happens and I don't catch it right away it messes up the rim's hub. I'm running Mamba Monster with 2200kv neu castle on 6s

While I'm at it, anyone recommend bearings?, I have a hybrid car really the chassis is all 3905 but the suspension is all 3906, don't want to switch anything now because all my shafts wouldn't match and I have aluminum parts as well.

i would get these bearings (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=DTXC1549&search=Go) and these hexes (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSP60&P=7) bearings and hexes. there what i have on my truck

ewww teflon sealed? The shields are so weak on those aren't they, I run in dirt sometimes. Actually I just recently broke a rear carrier got the rpm replacements, came with oversized bearings... we will see how those do in the back. I don't want to switch too soon, cause I stocked up on some industrial metal shielded, I've got 20 of em now, and now the only part that uses em is my tranny (which those don't go bad often) and the front wheel bearings.

So you really think the aluminum would actually help, I was told by someone he said instead of screwing up your hexes it's going to tear up your wheels and it's not as easy to glue aluminum to them if you have too.

What I ended up doing for the meantime is glueing them all with super glue, because some were really bad and I think just replacing a hex it would strip again because the rims were bad, also I loosened the slipper clutch.

One more thing, I have no problem loosening the slipper, but if I drop from a jump with it keyed is it possible that I could damage my mamba monster motor by the rpms reving up too high, or do you think the slipper could provide enough load to keep it from damaging itself, now obviously I wouldn't have it any looser than I need, but it slips a tiny bit while on grass, but doesn't get very hot, and again, obviously I wouldn't full throttle it when I come down from a jump, that's just crazy.

With a tight slipper IME the diffs give not the motor. Unless you have weak drive shaft then they give first. I have also seen the tranny idler gear or input roll pin shaft give.

Nope, all metal shafts, so far it's these darn hexes that won't stay, I'm going to have to move to larger hexes/rims cause gluing them isn't totally working.

tadium54

go to metal hexes. i have a set from hardcore that are great, but just about any company should work

I agree metal 17 mm hexes work great for me in a system with some serious torque. I have twisted metal output shafts instead of rounding hexes.

seems someones on the throttle a bit hah, then its settled i need to get 17mm rims and hexes, sorry for late response you were helpful, I just dont have anything to run in the winter that's worthwhile and I don't want to risk my emaxx

You are correct. That occured landing full throtle on only one rear wheel after coming off of a 20 foot jump...lol.

Does anyone here know if there is actually timing in the Titan 550 motors or if they are set at zero?

Also, if someone were to put an EVX2 wired backwards, would you be able to program it to function forwards with that specific motor?

tadium54
03-12-2010, 07:34 PM
i don't think there is timing on them. i could be wrong though. i don't think you'd be able to make a reverse wired speed control run forwards, unless you reversed the throttle selector on your transmitter.

ps, still have anything for sale? i remember you had a whole bunch of tires ages ago

Thanks for the reply. The reason I ask; I built a 3905 back from "death by stupid RTR owner" and I used both the reverse motors new out of E-Revos. It seems to have way more reverse power than forward. I try reversing the throttle switch and reprogram without a change. I tried wiring the motors backwards and programming using reverse first and throttle last but got the same results again. The EZ brake feature is working correctly which leaves me wondering about the windings being timed with a forward bias. Any other thoughts anyone?

Yeah, I still have some stuff. I will list everything soon.

tadium54
03-12-2010, 07:59 PM
have you tried the same with using the forwards motors instead of reverse?

andystoybox
03-12-2010, 08:03 PM
I haven't soldered them in yet. However, I have a guy coming down to buy it and figure I better check it out before he gets here tonight. I will probably try that next. It doesn't make sense because I took them out of SemiMaxx and it had the same speed forward as well as reverse using an EVX2 as well.

tadium54
03-12-2010, 09:02 PM
if you had a spare evx i would say try that too, but if 2 different speed controls give different results with the same motors, i'd be tempted to say something is wrong with your fets, and if thats the case, im not sure if you can change it

andystoybox
03-12-2010, 11:14 PM
Won't matter too much. I sold the 3905 tonight. Basically a new truck. Installed that EVX2 and next week he's coming back to pull it out and buy the brushless setup. Thanks for trying. I think I will shelf the setup and deal with it again later.

So I went to the hobby shop yesterday and walked out with a new maxx. Ran a pair through it yesterday and was quite impressed. Now what lipo's can I run with the evx2 as far as voltage? I know I need a LVC but again how many volts will it handle? Thanks

tadium54
10-31-2010, 01:56 PM
the evx2 can handle 2 2s lipos

kurrz
10-31-2010, 02:24 PM
Thanks. Since it can only handle 2 2s will it be slower than the 7 cell packs?

tadium54
11-01-2010, 12:29 AM
honestly, when i used to run dual 7 cells and converted to 2 lipos, it seemed about the same speed. maybe a bit slower (bit not much)

kurrz
11-01-2010, 06:59 AM
Can you recommend some lipos? Been looking around and it seems you either get what you pay for or some name brands are gouging people.

tadium54
11-01-2010, 01:48 PM
i have 2 trakpower 2s1p lipos, but they werent cheap. they've also puffed a bit too. check out the big guys - orion, peak, etc.

Thanks tadium it's good to get responses. I'll look around. Looked at Venom's packs are they any good?

So I just ran my maxx for the fifth time and one of the traxxas cells got so hot it melted the plastic and mis shaped the pack. Are these batteries just junk or did I screw up?

tadium54
11-06-2010, 04:22 PM
traxxas lipos?

kurrz
11-06-2010, 08:03 PM
No just the 7 cell nimh stick packs that come with the truck. One of the cells right in the middle of the pack overheated.

Wow, these stock tires r gonna last forever it seems. But now i have a set of street tires and sport maxx rims just WAITIN to be mounted up. Whats the best way to do this

does anyone know a good way to remove glued tires from rims without destroying the rims and tires?

tadium54
11-10-2010, 01:50 AM
boil em

daddywilson1974
11-10-2010, 08:58 PM
will it harm the wheels or tires? i want to reuse them but i need to put foam in them.(i didnt put the foam in when i put them together.

tadium54
11-10-2010, 10:28 PM
nope. just boil some water, pop the wheel in one side down, wait for a few minutes, flip to the other side, repeat, and you're good

kurrz

Finally got some lipos now, the next question is what LVC do I need. Bill at my LHS was'nt sure because of running two packs.

kurrz
12-19-2010, 07:45 PM
Also looking at some different packs whats the minimum c rate I should get?

Hey guys,
New E-Maxx owner here. No idea what I am doing Just got this package from Craigslist:
2 team Orion 7 cell 2400mha nmh battery pack and a MRC super brain 959.

Problem is I can't get the batteries to charge. I have checked the settings.
How should I be charging and what settings should I use?
Thanks for the help.

Dan

OK got a new charger, but I think batteries are next. I am thinking NiMH maybe 4200's? What brand and if I want to spend under $100 for a pair should I get? Also The truck has the evx2 with the runs in the air fine, put it on the ground and nothin'. Do I need a new esc too? Should have bought a nitro?
