It was mentioned months ago, but the new TT-01 BMW kit is now on Tamiya's site (http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/58385bmw320si/index.htm).

Forgive me for asking, but exactly how does that wing mount?
I am reading up on all these Tamiya 1/10th variants over the last little bit while my net works, and it seems the more and more I read is the more I find to learn. Always loved my old Tamiya's from years ago...as well as my friends own....feeling like getting back to the fun part of RC :)

I would imagine it screws on from the inside.

If it's like most Tamiya TC wings, it is held on the inside by o-rings and body clips. There's a little nub that sticks thru the "trunk" with a hole thru it.

Hi, I don't know if you remember me but a few years ago I had a TTO1 with a novak supersport 5.5 brushless set up.
I sold this and quit R/C. However I have just bought a brand new Tamiya TT01, with the following hop ups.
Original TAMIYA 1/10 TRF TRF415 TGS ALLOY shock damper
Tamiya TT-01 Turnbuckle Tie-Rod Set (TGS)
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Racing Steering Set
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Motor Heat Sink
Tamiya Urethane Bumper Small (TT-01 , TGS)
Tamiya Aluminum Bumper Stopper (TT-01, TGS)
Tamiya TT-01 Metal Motor Mount
Tamiya TT-01 Ball Bearing Set
Tamiya 4mm Aluminum Flange Lock Nuts (Blue)
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Propeller Shaft
Tamiya Aluminum Damper Retainer (1mm Down Type)
Tamiya TT-01 Stabilizer Set (Rear)
Tamiya TT-01 Stabilizer Set (Front)
I'm looking at some ball differentials too :)
I have yet to buy my electrics, But I'm going brushless again, with a 5.5 Velociti set up :)
However, I cannot remember what gearing I used with my Novak SS 5800 set up, Has anyone got a starting point?
Also, What is the quality of GPM aluminium like?
thanks

I wouldnt have clue about the gearing, but as for GPM parts, i hear that they are pretty good quality!
Where did you get the car?...ebay?
GA Maxx
04-18-2007, 04:57 PM
yup, Iget all my stuff from Singapore or Hong Kong shipped to the UK :)
I've just bought a Brushless system, unfortunately, I've got one which is probably too power ful (5.5t) lol
Going to order a 7.5 T later lol.
For what I'm going to spend, I could have bought a pro tourer, but wheres the fun there :D
Jayboy
04-18-2007, 05:06 PM
Yeah just buying a perfect car is no fun...i'm one of those people who think building your own car up yourself over time is so much more fun than just buying a good car to start with.
Its like my TL-01, the from the money i have spent modifying and adapting that, i could have bought a top-spec car...
That brushless setup will be a blast!!

GA_Maxx, which stores are you ordering from? Im otw to order a TT01D but so far ive only found RCMart and another store in Hong Kong, any pointers to online stores would be much appreciated. (Just ordered an Inferno GT, but i got annoyed when there was no kit version... so now im getting a TT01D to build and use as a drifter.) :)
Im in Sweden btw.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Antel, Mine isn't a D its just a TT01, I get all my stuff from Hong Kong or Singapore through Ebay.
I'm in the uk, but i import EVERYTHING from either hong kong or singapore. Particularly good ebay shops are:
Vellrip
Rcworld
Dinball
RCMart
I occasionally get stuff from Tower hobbies though.
I never get any import charges and prices are DIRT cheap! I'm talking 70% off!postage is cheaper and faster than UK!
The best thing is though the US dollar is very weak at this time too which helps ;)
Antel
04-20-2007, 03:43 AM
Exactly my thoughts... hope i can order before the dollar climbs again. And thanks for the info. Ill try find those dealers, im guessing the US Ebay, or is it Hong Kong and Singapores Ebay?
Im getting the D cause the price difference is like $30 US and the ballbearings alone is like $15 US so... might as well get those oil chocks when i can. :)
In total ill have to order stuff for around $800 US (Charger + Power Supply, Batteries, Servos (the standard Inferno GT servos plain sucks, i can move the servo horn about 1-2 mm lengthwise on the servo.), Nomadio React, Tires for the Inferno GT and the TT01D... ouch!) next week, from amainhobbies and some Hong Kong store atm, but ill check if i can get stuff cheaper on Ebay.

Cool sounds like a cool set up :)
I'm just going to ebay.co.uk and clicking the community tab and putting their name in to find their store.
I'd drop them an email first to make sure they ship to Sweden
Is this the 55T spur gear that is mentioned so often for use with the 25T pinion in the TT-01?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000418498&I=LXCVP4&P=K
Are there any mods required to use it in the TT-01?

I Just thought I would post my full set up for my TT01. It started off as a regular TT01 Subaru Impreza WRC kit. God Knows how much I have spent, And I'm still wating for Parts but so far I have:
Tamiya 1/10 TRF TRF415 TGS ALLOY shock damper
Tamiya TT-01 Turnbuckle Tie-Rod Set (TGS)
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Racing Steering Set
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Racing Steering Link
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Motor Heat Sink
Tamiya Urethane Bumper Small (TT-01 , TGS)
Tamiya Aluminum Bumper Stopper (TT-01, TGS)
Tamiya TT-01 Metal Motor Mount
Tamiya TT-01 Ball Bearing Set
Tamiya 4mm Aluminum Flange Lock Nuts (Blue)
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminum Propeller Shaft
Tamiya Aluminum Damper Retainer (1mm Down Type)
Tamiya TT-01 Stabilizer Set (Rear)
Tamiya TT-01 Stabilizer Set (Front)
Tamiya TT-01 Carbon Upper Deck
Tamiya TT-01 Aluminium Clamp Type Hex Hubs
Tamiya TT-01 Adjustable Upper Arm Set
I'm just wondering weather to add some GPM/Tobee Craft BLING BLING, Maybe the hub carriers and the battery brace. I'm going to leave the standard differentials and standard drive shafts for the time being to see how the hold up to the power I'm giving it (see below).
Electronics Wise:
Airtronics MX-A Radio System
Novak Millenium Charger W/ Black Box Power supply
6x Danspeed 4000mah Batteries
Novak GTB Brushless ESC
Novak Velociti 5.5 Brushless motor W/ Sintered Rotor
TBH I'm thinking even geared with a 19 pinion the 5.5 Brushless Set up is goignto be too much, IF this is the case, I'll buy a 2007 Traxxas Rustler and Put this set up in that, and buy a 7.5 for my TT01.
Pics too follow.
Oh I almost forgot, My prized HPI TE37 Rims in black :D

GA Maxx, sounds like a nice rig you got there! :D Question..... did you happen to notice how "true" your TE37's were? I had bought a set of the chrome TE37 last year and they were awesome looking wheels, but mine were really out of round. I put them on several cars and they all wobbled when they spun. Even before mounting tires.

I have the TT-01D and theres a few differences between it and the tt-01.
- The adjustable arms for front and rear camber and toe-in adjustments.
- Ball bearings.
- Sports tuned motor (if included), 23T with 14deg locked timing (cheers Z-man).
- In stead of the standard friction dampeners you get the oil filled coil over shocks (which arnt threaded but hey what do you expect for so cheap)...
Other than that I think the cars are pretty much the same... and for AU$40 more I figured it was not a bad deal in the long run...
I've ordered some more stuff off Ebay which include,
1) Alloy Prop Shaft.
2) Front + Rear Sway Bar.
3) Alloy Racing Steering set.
4) Front + Rear alloy turnbuckles.
5) Carbon Upper Frame.
6) Alloy turnbuckle tie rod set.
This was mainly to remove the play that I've got with the steering and improve the overall durability and stability of the frame for drifting. Afterall it'll be spending most of it's life sideways so it's bound to hit somthing sooner or later, but so far so good.

I'm thinking of getting a TT-01D, and I was wondering what the top speed is on this car?
out of the box maybe 20mph
Shazz1234
04-24-2007, 06:40 PM
Thats probably on the upper end of the scale (going downhill with a tailwind mabye :D). It's probably a bit slower than 20mph but it's still quick enough to keep you on your toes and it has good torque to get the tires spinning nicely...
If you want some nicer, slicker drifts I would definatly pick yourself up some abs tires casue the tamiya tires are just a little too sticky IMO...
I'm having a problem with my tt-01D but... After dropping in a new 4600mah pack things are getting REAL hot, too hot to touch (as I like all my cars :D) so I want to drop a tooth or 2 mabye on the pinion but the problem is the tt-01D already has a 19tooth pinion and on the chart of gearing ratios on the manual (you know how you have to change the rotation of the motor mount for different gear ratios) the lowest it shows on the manual is the 19tooth? I'm sure I could put it on there and tamiya do make a 17 and 16 tooth pinion but what rotation point should the motor mount be? Does it matter where it is? Cheers...

but you will need lots of brushes....and need more money..
just go brushless...with nimh battery...

The 5700 is more than enough for the TT-01. I run an SS5800, and geared right (21 tooth pinion I think is on there right now), I'm getting about 35-40mph with IB4200WC six cell side by side packs. The MM7700 will definitely get you a good, solid 45mph (probably geared on the more mild side too). Should be plenty, but you need to keep in mind, you need decent batteries to get the full potential of the MM7700 (and heck, even the 5700 needs some kickin' batteries).
Check out apogee batteries (WJ Birmingham on here started a thread about it). They're having a blow out sale of castle's mamba max systems. 155 bucks for any three (I think they're almost out of 4600s, last time I checked, there was 3 of those left, and the 5700 and 7700 were "in stock").
leoboy254
04-24-2007, 10:06 PM
Does the 5700 drain a lot of battery power? Also, will I be able to still drift, maybe using low throttle?
edit-- scratch that, wouldn't I be able to program the esc to give a lot of low end torque for drifting and then change it for high end
GA Maxx
04-25-2007, 05:51 PM
Right :) I just thought I'd chip in :) I used to run an SS5800 ina TT01 when they first come out (maybe 3 years ago) I can't remember my gearing but it was an awesome set up!

Also not in pics is the adjustable upper arm set (still waiting for delivery, hence why stabiliser bars aren't bolted down, The LSD differential, and rear ball differential (I'm going to see how standard diffs hold up first) Tobee craft Aluminim drive shafts.
The motor/ESC combo is the real party piece, its a Novak GTB ESC and a Novak Velociti 5.5R Racing Brushless motor with sintered Rotor. This motor is rated at 7,400 rpm per volt :) Im going to run a 19 tooth pinion with stock spur, which is still a little over geared according to the Novak Manual but hey :)

Personally I think the alloy bumper stopper is a bit overkill really? What does it seriously do better that the plastic one does except mabye add more weight to the front end giving more grip mabye?
The stabiliser set looks so funky mounted like that on the tt-01, cant you mount it arround the front of the front shocks and the rear of the rear shocks like most stabiliser sets in the tt-01D and other brand RC's?

From past personal experience, Unless it's a TT-01 that has been in the warehouse forever, they all come with the TEU-101BK now except for the TT-01R and not sure about the D version. I wouldn't let the tech info on Towers site bother you. They seldom if ever update it. If you call them they won't know either because their salespeople just go by what's written in the tech info.... For instance Last year I bought the Calsonic Skyline GT-R and it said MSC in the tech info, but it came with the esc. So did the 350z I bought last year.
Thanks everyone for the response. I did call Tower and they did not know if the tech info was accurate or not. I'll probably go with the Enzo.

Guys, I don't normally like making comparisons for the "this vs. that" argument coming up....but with Tamiya guys I know that just doesn't happen!
I am thinking of something to introduce others to RC with and to also have for myself for fun in parking lots and Tamiya offers me a couple choices. Now ...the competition in my head is coming from the mini class stadium trucks/buggies.
My question is, head to head how does your average setup TT01 and TA05 run in comparison to basic 1/18th like the RC18? Keep in mind we are talking about small parking lot or big driveways. Does either type have a significant and noteiceable advantage getting around a small dirty track?
Let me know if any of you have experience with the 2 types of machines!

Not sure I 100% fullly understand the question but...... I find 1/10th touring cars much more fun and easy to drive smoothly and consistantly than the 1/18. Then again, I'm older now and my eyes and reflexes "ain't what the use to be". :D
As far as the TT-01 versus the TA-05 which I don't think is what you are asking but, it's like comparing a Yugo to a Porche. I've had about 6 tt-01's and just one TA-05, but I drove it as much as the 6 TT-01's combined. It handles like it was on rails and it was buttery smooth and quiet. I like TT-01's as well because they are cheap, and fun. It would be more fun to run tt-01's with several people, than run the ta-05 by yourself. Other than that though, I think even if you spent $500 with every hopup known to man on a TT-01, a base ta-05 straight out of the box would still be a much better car for a fraction of the cost. My ta-05 never fouled a single belt of pulley even on unprepped surfaces the pulleys stayed snow white. Then again, if you know for a fact your surfaces will have a lot of debris, more than average, the TT-01 would be a better choice. That or the TB-02 would be a better value IMO.

RIGHT Lets get playing :)
Finally got the radio through :) Had to pay a customs charge but hey.
Installed it all, Now I had no intention of running it today, But I needed to centre the servo, And the only pack I had built around was a tamiya connected battery. I had to put a Tamiya Connector onto the Brushless. Anyway got it all installed :) However, I just wanted to see how it went :)
Anyway, I took her for a spin, I'm still waiting for a new set of tyres, So I didn't glue the tyres down, and the battery was 1/4 charged, And it is pretty fast! I can't wait to peak a matched pack and glue on my new HPI tyres and give ita good blast :D
Got the Much More stuffs from Japan & some from lhs.
The steering set is Tamiya. Upper deck is Tamiya, but the ends of the upper deck and steering posts are from Square. The propeller shaft are universal joint also from Square. F&R bumper and damper stoppers also from Square.
I'm using Tamiya ball diffs F&R, and drive shafts are universal swing shafts.
Some closer shots after this...

The blue yellow shocks in the photo are Tamiya TRF Damper Special (Blue). The shock body is threaded for adjusting spring stiffness without using spacers. I find it useful when setting car on various track surface.

Right thought I'd give you an update on the Brushless :)
I've glued the stock tyres onto stock rims, and Took the car out for its first "bash". Now, I'll tell you all now. I was using TAMIYA Connectors and Brand new First peaked CARDBOARD Cheapo 4000mah packs. NOT an ideal set up. I've got my matched GP3700's and deans connectors to build. I may pick up a GP 3700 Team Stick pack after work tomorrow to keep me going.
The speed is there, Its very fast, and alot more torquey than I expected. Blip the throttle and It will kick the back out, really gets some heat into those rear tyres! HOWEVER I would Ideally have liked to gear 17/60, which I can't I'm currently geared 19/60 and The top speed is immense (If you can keep it going, I wasn't on an ideal surface), But there isn't as much punch as I'd have liked, Again this is more than likely down to the batteries.
Everything seems to be holding up fine (except the stock tyres). I've got a bal ldiff and a 1 way in my tool box, as well as tobee shafts. I wanted to see how stock gear diffs held up, and If they are fine, I will not be using the other diffs.
I've put 6 packs through it in total, and motor & ESC are at perfect tempretures (I'm not running the ESC Fan) The batteries are very warm, But like I say they are poor packs, even though they are giving me good runtime :)
I'll re pos twhen I've tried a "proper" battery :)

Well.. they're not all that cheap for me here too... I even source some stuff from EBay, and some Japanese online mailorder too. My LHS don't stock up. Brushless is particularly expensive in this region.
I used to have LRP2, but I sold it off. It's very easu to use, but I found it too sensitive false peaking endlessly when I charge transmitter batts. That's when I decided to go for Much More Cell Master. Has better algo and programming options, but a little noisy fans.
Hey I have E-Savage too.. my advice to you.. first thing to do is change the shock absorbers. They're too soft, and leak so easily. Get some from 3racing, Integy or Savage shocks. But be careful of the plastics, they strip easily. I'm planning to install UBECs and some Proline tires soon.

will the tt-01 take 550 size motors?
if so how fast will it go with a rz motor?
wow 550 motors? I didnt try, but i think you may require some dremel work on the plastics near the endbell.
I tried TZ motors very good pickup torque running on 22/55. I played drift too. Could run on 23/55 if there were more straight lines.
I didn't try RZ, i believe it can run as fast but lesser torque.
Maybe someone who have used RZ can help in this area.

Yesterday I finished doing the chassis and today I finished the body. The thing is frickin fun!! Tomorrow I'll go outside since I've been driving it in the house on the carpet.
I was kinda amazed when I saw skid marks on the kitchen floor. I was just fooling around, doing 360s. Good thing my parents haven't noticed, hehe!
quick!! get some cloth & rub it off, ha! I had these marks too when I used radials. Marks all over the floor and noticed only after I finished playing, ahaha!
I noticed the rubber turns hard, but wears easily after few weeks exposed. Since then I've changed to Sorex 40 on dishes. I still have Tamiya solid drift tires but not using it.

I didn't measure the speed.. but it's fast enough for me for a 23 turn motor. The gearing is an issue - smaller pinion gives better torque for drifting and winding tracks, but lacks top speed
leoboy.. i guess the most probable way to remove the drift tire is to heat it up (boiling method). But I didn't dare to do it, because the rubber looks brittle. Furthermore I think it's glued.
But I liked the rims, so I bought the same rims in white.

A 4200 mAh has a lot of capacity, I didn't even use the whole pack, lol. The motor and ESC got really hot. I'm guessing the alum heat sink and metal motor mount are helping.
One question, does this car require a high torque steering servo because the one I'm using is from my old broken tmaxx and it glitches a lot. Is this because I put the steering stuff on it too tight? I have a couple of futaba s3003s laying around, would they give enough torque for the steering?
Yes, the motor mount is worth buying. I then removed the paper shims.
I've been using Futaba servos on TT-01 and it works just fine. My MSXX & TA05 is using Sanwa VR or RZ 8kgs/cm.

With TZ & RZ will run fine, just little warm.. but ok for stock motor :)
So for now until I decide to go brushless, I can use a standard servo?
I recommend Sanwa servos. I find them very reliable. But don't need high-torque servos because the TT-01 is not heavy like 1/8 buggies out there. 4-8kg/cm is fine.
Maybe can consider low profile servos. To gain some leverage in terms or weight savings & space :D

Just thought I'd Update you all. I have added a few more hop ups to the beast, Mainly Bling. I also picked up some HPI Moulded soft inserts and glued on my tyres. I am now the proud owner of 8 Ib4200's World Championship packs. They are stick packs as I use them in my E-Savage. I am also still running tamiya connectors, I have Deans ready for when they melt :)
I have raced Touring cars in modified class for years. This is on another level of speed. The matched 4200's Make up for the fact I am slightly over geared, And still give me awesome punch. I need to use this on a swept asphalt road as at the moment, I am honestly struggling for traction! I can give it halfway throttle, Floor it and physically see the tyres struggling for grip! I am going to higher the ride height and buy some new bodyposts (cut them too short lol).
Honestly the speed the 5.5 Velociti Brushless motor gives is immense. Thanks too everyone for recomending IB4200 packs, I gota killer deal on them and they are some of the best batteries I've EvER owned at an awesome price :D

GAMaxx... the IB4200WC are fantastic. How are you charging it?
For saddle packs, I'm getting getting about 4800mAH on 6.5A 30mV peak within 40mins (fan on).
For stick packs, I'm not getting good readings. Average 3900 to 4000mAH, on 6.5A 30mV. Maybe they're old. But I suspect some cells are dead inside.
However, I still love the output voltage, 9V!!! I think that's what making the motors roar.
Some of the saddle packs I have, I put them in the CTX-D2. And discovered dead cells (0.00V). So I'd advice anyone to check voltage before buying. A lot of dead cells out there in the market.
And over here my LHS, selling "matched" batteries with dead cells too

WEll At the moment, I'm charging them on a Regular Peak charger @ 4.0a, My LRP Pulsar hasn't been used yet as I am awaiting my Power Supply, So can't give u accurate readings.
I will let you know though.
Actually the 4.0A peak charger is not all that bad. My e-Savage rig comes with the GT Escape dual 1-4A charger... and many times I tried to save some time charging two IB4200 stick packs at once. They seem to perform just as good. Only thing, I haven't any readings from this little charger :)
Now I'm thinking of getting some convenient all-in-1 charger to charge my batteries incl. 12V Pb batts as well (I'm a nitro guy too).. am looking at X-Power or e-Station from rcmart. They're not highend stuffs, but I guess good enough to to the job.

I might just endup getting 60mm dampers from yeah racing and some buggy tyres. I might go to 65mm dampers.

Dremel out the skid plate a little and that with the stock shocks will give you almost 1/4 inch more clearance than before dremeling.

Funny -
Mine was a kit with no electronics at all and I usually always run brushless on all my RC's. Good stuff - That Hacker C40 6 Turn motor is insane. I know at some point the shaft will snap but until then just keep running and when it does then get an alloy shaft. LOL
I also have a Hacker C40 5 Turn motor that is currently in my 1/18 scale Micro RS4. Considering putting it in something else, but not sure what yet.

I didn't know which oil to get but the guy at my LHS suggested that I get the hard oil. I have the pink 1 up front and blue 1 in the back. Running 3 hole pistons all around. I haven't had a chance to test it yet but not sure if I have them set up properly. Are you supposed to fill the oil completely to the top or have a bit of space? but you will need to get body, and drift tires for that.
juntom10
08-27-2007, 11:44 AM
and also need electronic speed controller(other tt-01 have esc)
cause R version has faster motor which is GT motor(25t)

yes. that esc can handle the motor.
if you want better one, i can recommand some..
and run time is really different depends on your drivin style, motor, esc, etc..
i suggest you to have more than 2 batteries.
and those plugs are good because can handle more electricity..so many people using them.

08-27-2007, 10:04 PM
of course it effects the preformance of the car!!!!! If you have a lower turn motor you will have to have a esc that can handle more amps.....and you need a brushless esc for a brushless motor.
and some have brake, and reverse....
and you can add drift tires, wheels and spray can for your body.or you could get a airbrush and give it a really cool paintjob :D but rattle cans are a lot less expencive...
R version is Race, D version is Drift
youngage
08-27-2007, 10:15 PM
lol R version is more tempting to get because it has better parts. also if i want to drif it i just lock the rear differentials...
also whats the lowest turn motor? and would that radio package juntom told me to get be good enought for it? i want a really hardcore motor
and i am not a very artistic person, so i will get an airbrush maybe later but for now i will get a midnight black skyline :)

i think there are 5t or 6t brushed motor out there.
but you will need to replace the brushes each 3~4 runs

so..my suggestion is..

then..try other motor...

oh, I didnt know the TT01D had a better motor... But I am impressed with the run times...I have had nitro cars/trucks before and this was my first electric and I put the battery in and ran it for 40 mins...thats a lot to me because I only get like 15 mins/tank with nitro. Just curious as to why you're looking to yield a 30 min. runtime. Are you entering it in some R/C endurance challenge? lol
If you're just lookin to bash with it, it would be best to just meet somewhere in the middle when it comes to runtime vs. motor. I just feel you'll thank yourself for getting a decent 19T stocker, than trying to entertain yourself with a silver can Johnson motor, just to squeeze a few more min. out of some pricey batteries.
If it was ME? I'd much rather have a decent 19T + a few 3300's than a silver can motor and shell out some serious $$$ for a matched 4500. If you shop around, you'll find that my choice can be cheaper, too. ;)
Besides, how hard is it to change a battery? ;)
Just my $0.02

how much are 3300 mah ones and is NIMH better or NICD or something else?
juntom10
08-29-2007, 09:51 AM
depends on the brand, and matched or not.
also... there are no NICD batteries which has high capacity..
i think the maximum capacity of NICD battery is 2200...?
so you will need to get NIMH batteries.

radio, reciever, and servo has nothing to do with motor/esc, so yes that radio setup will work just fine
but the esc comes with the radio....?
can that esc still handle the motor, i am assuming yes
juntom10

yesyesyes
that esc can handle upto 20 turn motor
so can handle easily the GT motor which is 25turn

and is the tt01r discontinued or is it still out, bc i went to another lhs today and he said they were discntinued....?

They're still in production. Once again, seems as if the the knowledge coming out of LHS's equals their pay rate, which is minimal.
Anywho, are you looking for a "sport" ESC (reversible) or a mid-grade forward/brake ESC? Either way, a decent one will only run you about $40 used.

well 1. i dont know the difference.
2. whats better for me? i am a beginner and just want to drive around the lot and chase away geese
3. i am guessing sport is better than mid grade since it can reverse?

Digging up a post far back but what speeds do people get with 6T motors. Also do they overheat alot?

I'd imagine a 6 would overheat as there is no way to gear it sensibly!

Joined my first ever race yesterday. I've been into r/c's for more than ten years but this is the only time i have the budget and time to go racing. Anyhoo...I joined the stock touring class of my tamiya asian championships. The rules basically are, use the stock mabuchi motor, the teu101bk esc and tamiya battery packs in a tt01 chassis. And lastly, you have to use either the racing slicks, radial or semi-slick tires of tamiya.
Gladly, in a grid of 5-6 people, i finished a respectable third. My driving was ok but the car was not set up that well. I was using a F430 body w/o a wing and my car weight was just a hairline above the minimum of 1450g. I just have to set up my car better next time and fix up my driving.
Anyway, here's the vid of the race (i'm using the car with the red/green/white colors). The guys who finished 1st and 2nd are young guys who are going next week to taiwan for the asian championships.

Tamiya Kit #58393
BMW Z4 M Coupe
http://www.tamiya.com/english/news/news0710/images/58393_l.jpg (http://www.tamiya.com/english/news/news0710/news1.htm#58393)
If I'm not mistaken, the real-life car has a shorter wheelbase than normal cars. When Tamiya approached this issue with the #58240 (Z3) M roadster, they used the M-04L chassis (239mm wheelbase). With this Z4 M coupe, they're using a longer TT-01 chassis with some sort of change:
"features modified wheelbase for a more realistic look"
I'll take this to mean they could be using suspension arms angled toward the center. We'll see as deets emerge.

Basically what you do is to invert the rear arms of the tt01 to make the wheelbase shorter

Anybody got a good source to buy body mounting posts? I want to switch back and forth b/w several bodies, but need different height posts. I know, I know, it would be easier just to leave them full length, but it looks hack. :roll2:

TT-01 fitted with high downforce GT wing at a speed test road site using MM5700. Did some drifting on a small asphalt area as well. Was pretty good how the ABS tires held up. The speeding down the road was more fun though! Sounded like a plane. lol.
Was pretty damm fast. Now what will happen if i strap it on my scooby rally style..
As you can see the TT-01 chassis has been modified for rally already. Sitting with quite a lot of ground clearance. :p

HI
I think i may need your help, as your car looks pretty impressive. I am quite new to all this rc stuff. I have a tt01 and have done the following
alum prop shaft
oil filled suspenseion
unlimted speed control unit
and a 19 turn motor
reason i need help is it seems to have got a lot slower putting the speed controller in when was on the standard control unit was much faster .... any recommendations ?????

Hey, I'm a newbie wanting to get into the hobby. I've driven my friends nitro traxxas with an upgraded OS engine many times. It seems really fun. I've also driven another rc car when I was about 12. I believe this was a tt-01. It had a blue calsonic nissan skyline body.
I was wondering what I should buy. I want to do rally and maybe some drift. I heard the tt-01 has a very good after-market and it is reasonably priced. How much should I expect to spend to bring a car up to running condition from a new kit?
I would like to build my car from a kit but I wouldn't mind buying something off ebay that is RTR if it is cheaper than a kit with no electronics. I can't seem to find any solid Stickies anywhere on suggestions. I'm just asking for suggestions and the various chassis and kits and what you think I should purchase to break into the hobby, Thanks.

jiffycake,
buy a tt01. you can get a basic kit for $79 off tower hobbies [subaru wrc ralleye body-unpainted] or you could buy a rtr for a bit more if you want. you can make it a drifter, a basher, a blinged out shelf queen or whatever you want.
they aren't worth a hoot for competitive racing, but neither is a brand new driver, so it would allow you to get started and you could make up your mind what to get next if you want to race seriously later. its a way to see what you like to do and is good enough to learn on.
tt01 drift kits come w/ plenty of goodies and you could just change the tires and raise the shocks for a bit of mild ralleye. plenty of options. i think the drift kit can come rtr too, but not sure.
drift kits come with most of the goodies you want; sport tuned motor, ball bearings, oil shocks and aluminum prop-shaft, plus the drift tires. buy an extra set of wheels and some ralleye block tires and knock yourself out.
if you get into racing you might want to look at a ta05. but i'm not sure i'd ralleye that car, or drift it either, but you could try it i guess?
good luck

Is the tt-01D a different chassis from the tt-01 or does it just have different parts?

tt-01D is the exact same as the tt-01, but it includes some hop-ups for drifting and the tt-01R includes hop ups for racing, but same chassis

the D chassis comes with some hop up goodies as stock equipment such as: oil shocks, sport tuned motor, ball bearings, aluminum propshaft, heatsink, and drift tires. Some models come with working lights. i think they also have adjustable suspension arms.
the R chassis is about the same but comes with GT motor and racing slicks, no lights and usually some extra spur gear combinations. usually comes with no body.
either one is a great buy just to get all the goodies you probably are going to buy separately anyway if you buy a standard kit. i would probably buy the tt-01D and one set each of treaded and slick tires, and then you have all the options!!! drift, bash, race! w00t.

Concerning installing ball bearings on a stock TT-01, where do all the bearings go? I've found the four wheels have bushings, then both ends of the driveshaft. Any other spots that need replacing?
swannco
03-09-2008, 09:31 PM
4x on wheels-outside the wheel uprights, 4x on axles-inside the wheel uprights, 1x on spur gear end of prop shaft, 3x inside diff on spur gear end of prop shaft, 4x inside front end diff
i think that's it.

Had been raining the past couple of days anyways..couldn't find a nice place at SK to run the DF-03. Was at Farmway scouting, all covered up now..with just a small little patch at the end still maybe bashable..but a lot of stray dogs...the local FW dogs...anyway...
However...more videos and pictures of my basher.... Just to share.
Man..real fast this time!
Can do power skids as if its on ABS drifting on asphalt using radials.
Still sounding like plane..or rocket. lol.

And after a couple of packs, the screws on holding the motor came loose. I noticed that using the MM causes screws to get real loose by themselves..must use thread lock...oh well.
Car went so fast it was drifting to a side...then it happened, the big flip, skid for almost 20m on its top and this is how it looks after.... but still..nothing broke! cool. :D

Hi all. Been awhile since I was here last, well at least posting in the DT-02 thread. Well I knew it had to happen, I gave in to the TT-01 drifting voices and got me one. Had to go for the BMW, as the Wife and I own a 92 318i. I've got 3 BMW bodys, a 318 like our 1/1 scale, this one, and there's a M3GTR in the paint shop, (my model room) Running a Tamiya RZ, Futabe ESC, alloy driveshaft, full bearings, and LED's kit. Hop-ups will follow as I can afford them. Blue alloy as far as the eye can see. Body posts will be cut down after the M3 GTR body goes on.
