Hey, i was running my Team TC3 (with stock set-up) at the track the other week, when i ran i was strong, i was i nthe front the whole time but some other person had just a little more speed then me. But i started to have a problem with the motor and now im waiting for a comm lathe, any ways,

My friend steve (Scuba Steve from this b.b.) said he was running his TC3 with the same set-up as me on a parking lot track ( same surface and nearly the same track layout as ours). Any ways, he was lapped twice by the other racers.

He told me that he moved the gold spring to the rear, put 25wt. shock oil in the rear shocks

Moved the battery pack forward

bought copper springs for the front and filled the front shocks with 70wt. Oil.

He said in the next heat he kept up with the pack with no problem. Im not very educated on set-ups so far, but could some one tell me how this new set-up effected his proformance, and would it most likely help me battle it out for 1st?

P.S. Both of our tracks look just like the letter B.

Well, there's a lot of things that can contribute to that. For one, the track surface he's on may be notably worse for grip than yours, so the same setup may make the car much harder to drive & it would lose speed in the corners, if it's lacking traction. Now, I for one do tend to stay reasonably close to the original setup(for camber links, toe settings, shock mount locations, camber, etc.), but I do vary a bit on the rest. I decided to try 50wt oil in front, & the original 40wt rear, which seems to be pretty good all-around, but I'll change the springs alot, right now I'm running copper fronts(which I use most of the time) & blue rears(for a kinda low-grip asphalt surface, to keep some rear traction), but I've gone as stiff as a red rear, for high bite tracks. With all that, though, the tires are the most important part of it. Different surfaces require a different tire(tires can be the single most important part of a set up), & that varies greatly by the type of surface. On carpet, lots of tires will work fine, but on pavement(& moreso in the heat) you usually need the softest you can get away with(without them wearing out too fast or overheating during a race). the best thing to do to find the proper tire is really to ask around at the track you race at, the loacl guys would be best suited to advise you on tires, since there are so many possible conditions to race in.... :)

i think most of them use slicks, but i bought a set of the stock HPI tires for $5 with shipping, so im not going to buy a new set. But mainly in the electric class its who ever shows up, theyre have even been tycos in the elctric before (laughing on the memorys)

but, i guess ill try this set up and see what grip i can get

How fast is your TC3?
I have a TC3 myself, seems like it can go as fast as thirty something MPH.
I believe it can go faster than that. Can it go 50+ MPH??

Wasn't it Pavidis that got his TC3 to do 90+ mph?? I think it was him but I know it went that fast.

IT's all about the tires. Your setup on carpet will not benefit from an asphalt setup in the least. Apples and Oranges.

Cliff Lett got a mostly stock (except it had like 14 cells instead of 6) ft tc3 to 96.4 mph.

I agree with everyone else on the rest, tires are very important, and also if ur car isnt handling well do to set up then they will gain on you in the infield.
right now i have red springs in the front, gold in the rear and the stock oil ( 40wt?)dont remember the camber degrees but i change 'em around alot. this is on a fairly high traction asfault parking lot.
$5 dollars for tires? ...are they treaded or something? Like the ones that come in some HPI kits? Usually slicks are best because they have a larger surface area, hence more traction
