I need to buy a new ESC soon, and I can afford a Novak Explorer II, Duratrax Streak, and GM V4, all have fwd/brake and are close to 50 dollars. Which one will be the most competative?, and what does the maximum current and frequency mean and such? I will be running a 14 or 15t mod motor and racing/bashing with it.

I have the Explorer II and can vouch that it is a nice ESC. I run a 15T motor, which does cause it too get a bit warm, but not nearly as hot as the motor and batteries get. I have raced once so far and can say this: you will not win using this speed control. The guys using Cyclones and V7.1s will be more dialed and have the ability to run fasters motors. For a starting speed control, I think it's excellent. Buy it and practice with it. When you think your ready (and have some cash), you can move up to a more competition-oriented speed control.

Do yourself a favor and if you have limited funds to spend on a ESC checkout ebay. Its an ausome place to find really nice deals. All you have to do is find the right sh-mo trying to round up money for something really quick. They'll sell stuff really cheap then! Hope this helps.
F.Y.I: I found a couple of cyclones for 50 or under and many others for around the same price. Just go look under hobbies and crafts; then radio control; then do a search for ESC. You'll find plenty of them.

You could also go look in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here.
For some tech on ESCs you could try this link,

Hope this helps

Only bad thing on eBay is you get what you pay for. When they say, AS IS, don't always accept their description of it working. I am going to be getting rid of some of my old ESCs, because the brakes don't work, and I will be clearly stating that when I post them.
