I bought a Novak 410 M5 and I need help setting it up. There is 6 wires - 3 wires are for the conection to the receiver and there is another 3 wires - 1 black and 2 red. The on/off switch has been disconnected and the 2 wires soldered together but I can't work out what this other red wire is. It is a small wire like the rest and comes out just near the rest of them
Cheers

If your talking about the short little red wire, I have no idea what it's for but It never needed to be hooked to anything on my old M5.

The small red wire was used with a FET receiver. I would get a replacement switch harness, with the on/off switch soldered together it's possible to loose control. With that setup the two Red are positive one goes to battery positive, the other to motor positive, Blue wire goes to motor negative and Black wire goes to battery negative.
The FET wire comes out of the case with the receiver plug wire, just wrap it around the plug wire to keep it neat and out of the way.

yep... just clip the extra wire, you don't need it.

I am still having trouble to get it going. The red led comes on when I put the battery in but the motor won't go and neither will the steering servo. To not run a on/off switch, is all you got to do is solder the wires together?

I just looked at mine and its hooked up as follows....
1. large red lead... connect with motor pos and battery pos.. (splice together)
2. large black lead... connect to battery neg..
3. large blue lead... connect to motor neg...
4. thin red wire.. cut off.. not used
5. on off switch ... as needed...
Hope this helps you out.. mine works great...

Can someone tell me which order the 3 wires go in to plug into the receiver? (Black, White & Red)

It depends on the receiver brand, age of receiver and which plug system is already installed.
ESC,s used to come with a specific brand type plug made for Futaba (J), Airtronics, KO etc or they later came with plug conversions. Since 2000 or so the plugs, functions (neg, pos, signal) are standard - so is plug.
You should still be able to get a downloadable manual of the M5 from the Novak site,(it was listed on discontinued models) which showed the arrangement of the plug for each brand of receiver.

It is a Traxxas Stampede Reciever. I've looked at the instruction manual and can't work it out. The JR/Hitec one doesn't have on it (in the manual) what color order and there is no Futaba
