View Full Version : Can we have our chat back?

I remember, back in the day, we had this website called chat.rczone.com, and we could go there and talk about r/c stuff in a chatroom. It was a boat load of fun. Then all of a sudden, it was gone.
I know it's kind of hard to manage because people like to get off topic, but it also makes a great resource for those of us who just wanna talk about stuff.
I guess we could start a permanent AIM chat. Maybe we could name a room and sticky it at the top so we never lose the link? :teacher:
If the concern is for people to watch the room for problems, there are several of us who would be willing to help I'm sure.
Pretty please?
Back me up guys!

Well, chat rooms tend to turn into a bash fest. All it takes is one immature chatter to ruin the whole experience.

It wasn't though. We used to actually have decent discussions. I don't know if they ran out of people to manage it or what, but I have the itch back again :p
If you have enough responsible moderators, you can make sure there are no immature chatters.
I guess I'm a dork :D

Sounds Nice... If there are immature people cant like.. the people who manage this forum block them from posting/entering that thread?

I think Buzzen still has chat that s free for those who want to make a room .... The gret part is that the person that creates the room is also a Host with a hammer to quickly dispense all the nonsense that can happen in a room .... Maybe what can be done is to make a general post here and then everytime we open that room post the link.... Using the same name would help this too for those hat may want to try and bookmark the room ... Another option for mass talking enviorments is Yahoo messenger with voice .... One person can open a room and add people form thier yahoo messenger to the voice chat ... You dont have to have a mic to be in a voice chat .... You can type there also .... The great part about that is you can either only add those you want in the room or shut it down supposing someone gets outta hand.... Either way noone gets in there unless you invite them .... Once again solving the idiot problems ... IF this sounds like a good idea LMK and we can probably get something going .... Some of us do this on occasion and have a really great time and share some great ideas .... The best part is you get to hear what all us goofballs sound like .... LOL ....

personall,y i dont think its needed. Why? because people will chat, then one person will come in, and purposely start something.....to cause conflict. Probably why the other was shut down.

Ron, you have a point... But doing it in Yahoo through a confrence messenger kinda makes it easy to weed out the jerks... Only folks on your messenger will have access to the chat .. If you dont want to deal with somone in a chat enviorment you dont invite them .... Besides before someone is brought into a chat Usually the room take a vote to see if they want that person brought in ... It avoids conflict that way ... ;)

yeah a chat room would be awesome.. and we could vote to ban people from them if we think they are not contributing.

They used to have it set up with like 10 or 20 people who were moderators. They kept it on track of r/c discussions and made sure that any instigators were kicked out immediately. There really wasn't much trouble with it that I could see.

In the meantime, just go on THIS (http://gabbly.com/forums.radiocontrolzone.com/forumdisplay.php?f=114) link for a quick and small application that lets you chat. Its nothing special though...
Enjoy

i dont mind making an AOL chat room and having it up 24/7 but people would have to all get a "free" AIM screen name.

But there's no way to moderate it and it always turns into a combination of girls and people calling each other homosexuals.
Either that or it turns to real cars. I guess it doesn't really matter a whole lot, but it's still hard to moderate properly.

You could set up a forum at EZBoard.com and they have java chat.

We had all those fun chats back in the day...None of them were really bash fests or anything. They mostly drifted off topic, but it was still a good time.

I was one of the moderators right up until the time it went away...it was definately nice to have but toward the end there it was becoming a bash fest and it was becoming quite a chore to moderate.

I wouldn't be against the chat, but I can't say I'd use it or that I think it's a great idea, because honestly, I really see a lot of bad possibilities. There's always going to be a group of people that just start making lots of accounts and spamming it. I don't think it was really as bright and nice as you describe it, because if it was, it'd still be there ;)

There'd be lots of you banning :p

You would ban many people
or
Many people would be banned by you
or
The number of banned members would increase ten fold due to you being a mod

Comprende? :)

Exactly. Having that sort of responsability requires a bit of......oh, what's the word......

...maturity.

Hey now, play nice.
I think a chat might be cool, but I don't really think it's needed. Most of the time threads are practically like chats and I would bet that by typing in this little box first, most of us use better English than when chatting.

I see why he wrote comprende?... because he was writing the rest of it in spanish as well.

As far as a chat room, we already have that here. We all post here in general discussion and then go look at crawlers and on to nitro and then post something in for sale and then go check and see if anything is new and then go check in general again. If you don't beleive me, look at the patterns on some peoples comments. They are all over the board. We chat and go off to something else and give the next guy a chance to respond and come back to read it in a few minutes. The ones that would use chat do this all the time anyway. It keeps content where it should be rather than one topic and everyone getting upset because the chat goes off topic all the time. As far as a voice chat, that would be even worse. I have had a class in college where there was a once a month chat amongst the class. Everyone would talk over the top of the next person until people were afraid to start talking and the whole purpose of the chat was lost. Just my fiddy cents on the subject.

What I said was in jest - I actually think that I'd like blktransam as a mod, just because of the "ban now, ask questions later" attitude that'd be put up. Many would disagree, but thats something that I've always liked, just because it stop people from scamming, lying, bsing, etc.

XXWoodmanXX
03-07-2007, 06:37 PM
Fully-agreed. Most of the time, in a tech/support-based chat, the questions with content get lost in the flood of off-topic cannon fodder for someone to even notice that the question has been answered ....25-30 lines back.

I see why he wrote fiddy cents.....because he was writing the rest of it in straight up gansta as well. ;)

I guess I don't understand something - I say something, someone else takes it as an attack on the person and agrees with it, so everyone else takes it as an attack and disagrees with the negativity, and insults me over something that was a joke in the first place. I wasn't trying to be a smart ass with "comprende?" Please make sure you fully understand someone before you attack them and create a flame war thread.

Also, if you don't understand the way I worded this (and you probably won't, I messed it up), just ignore it and read the bolded section.

Ole' smoke, amigo. Everyone else knew I was joking, the only tranny on the board thought it was funny and that's how we roll, o.k. homie? It's all in fun, jest and whatever else. I think the problem is too many of you out there are driving in the slow lane on the internet and are pissed off because you get passed too often. Take a joke, give a joke and don't get so wound up about stuff! After all, don't you know that Mini-T's were for chicks with tight bellies? Not 55 year olds with a paunch. Now, if you're offended, read the bold print. I'm just joking with you.

Tranny, as far as PM goes, why would I waste the words there when I can offend more people here? HAHAHA

i remember it, and i'd love to see it return. i'll volunteer to moderate it on certain nights. we should have a schedule for it lol
