Tell me if im wrong here, doesnt this get annoying????
Ok... here the scenario... im at my favorite bashing spot, a big dirt road that leads to a park, the park usually has people there, and lately ive been sick of people walking up and saying this..

1. Is that gas powered?
2. How fast is that thing?
3. how much did that cost?
4. Is it upgraded??

I mean comon. Who cares. Just watch and have fun. Dont waste my gas. Then again, questions like..

1. Where can I get one
2. What are necessary things that must be done
3. ect. ect....

I mean, those are questions that have meaning. I can understand the wonder of how fast they go, but, comon, who cares? I just get annoyed with it sometimes.

I would ask those questions.

1. Is that gas powered?
2. How fast is that thing?
3. how much did that cost?
4. Is it upgraded??

People want to know. Thats what prolly leads them into buying one.

Damn man, take a prozac and chill out or go play by yourself in the forest if you don't want people bugging you.

I find it enjoyable with people watching me zip around with this loud obnoxious bee from hell and coming up and asking me questions. The young kids especially love it and the dogs usually hate it, lol :D I've meet some cool people since getting into Nitro where as electric trucks, people are just like "hoo humm, big deal, moving on". Nitro = attention baby!

"I can drive it?" or "Can I drive it?" or "Let me drive it?" or ::attempts to grab controller::

No (because of the way they say it/try to take stuff).

Ice, I dont need your smart comments, I didnt even wright it as if I was angry. Im just saying its a little annoying when you dont even get to drive because people come up and try to have a convo with you about the car. Maybe I should have clarified, its annoying when they ask that stuff then just walk away. Its not as bad when they ask all that then start into the where can I get one, because then I known that im actually getting someone invovled.

"I can drive it?" or "Can I drive it?" or "Let me drive it?"

That's when you have one of those TV moments seeing the future. You hand them the controller saying go slow. The 1st thing they do floor it right intro a pole or under the closest car driving by. Then hand you the controller shrugging their shoulders saying sorry. Back in the present you seem to punch them in the face for no reason.

I think the number one annoying question is "would you take $125 shipped to XXXXX" when you know it was worth more. JK

Really, I actually get a kick out of people's interest in the hobby. Their interest just made your hobby cheaper because the more people that buy, the less expensive it is to make. Let them ask unless your incompetent enough to drive and talk; then we'll just call you "woman" when we refer to you again.

With all that noise and air pollution, nitro always gets "attention".

Back on topic: Personally, I have no problem with people asking questions, but I get really peeved when strangers just stand behind my pit table and don't ask me ANY questions. It makes me feel like they're stalking me or looking to see if I have any stuff worth stealing.

Dude, id say the most annoying question would be "Can i try?"

Now, IVE BEEN THERE BEFORE. On both ends. I wanted to drive someones rc, and ive had people ask me.

Its like, i know u wanna try it out and stuff, but i put allot of money into this and dont want a little mistake to ruin it. Then again, on the other hand, i was once who wanted to try too lol, but i was always in RC so i knew how to "Control" it.

It's only annoying when little kids ask me the same question over and over...

Little kid: How much did that cost?
Me: A lot...
Little kid: Oh, so how much did it cost?
Me: A lot...
Little kid: Like how much?
Me: More than you can afford.
Little kid: Why would you spend that much on a toy?
Me: This is not a toy!
Little kid: Can I drive it?
Me: *Flips truck over on purpose and runs over to flip it right side up, avoiding the little kid's questions*

If someone is older or the same age as me than I don't mind answering questions that aren't pointless. They are usally more interested in other things about my cars/trucks.

I like when people come up and ask questions. Even, where did you get that?. Any chance I get to tell people to go to the lhs, House of Hobbies, I take it. I had one kid ask me a couple of times if he could drive it. I told him no. Then he said he'd give me $20. I said no. The he said some where around $200. I told him to go buy one then. He got mad, and tried to get his dog to get it. That was fun. I'm at the beach, GT with CV-RX 18, and paddle tires. The dog didn't stand a chance.

Me: *Flips truck over on purpose and runs over to flip it right side up, avoiding the little kid's questions*

Aftermath of actions:

Dude, you can actually make your stuff flip over on purpose? How do you do that? Can I try? Does it wreck a lot of stuff when you flip? Are you sure I can't try? Why? Are you afraid that I can flip it over better without trying? C'mon, I'm gonna tell my mommy and she's going to come over here and sit on you!

well the questions do start to bother me after while bt i can drive and talk at the same time so it aint too bad.i do get the "can i drive it?" question.but i do let some people try it out but the nice part is i can turn my throttle down so far that it only idles.ill give them less than 1/4 throttle so they can get a feel for the truck on the track enough to decide if they want to buy one or not.most times they end up buying one.it wont hurt to let somebody thats truely interested in the hobby try out your truck if you can limit them to less than 1/4 throttle in a fenced in area or track.only takes a minute to change the throttle settings in the radio.

LMAO!! That was a good one. (Also one of the reasons I don't let them drive it... too many things to hit, and too much speed that when they do hit something, it's guaranteed my things are broken...:()

I so agree with the throttle trim. I do that sometimes.

I had a dude refuse to get one because he said, "every time i get off the throttle the car stops". I told him, i turned it down a bit. He said why not let me use the full potential. Geez, u have got to be kidding me. Then he refused to buy it.

(didn't happen, but a likely scenario... a lil easy to read.) lol

What would suck is that after the find out what a trim is, and they freggin.... Here

1. Turns Trim all the way up.
2. Car freaking floors it.
3. He/she turns of the transmitter.
4. The car gets out of range by the time i react. (depends)
5. Turing the transmitter on at this point it no help.
6. My 500buc savage just ran straight into a pool, or wall.

Kid says sorry and go's away. BUT MY 500 IS GONE AND AIN'T COMING BACK!

i dont know, maybe it would be better to just turn around and kick people really hard. Or better, hit them in the face...with a brick.

Ya know, I suspect there will be alot, and i mean A LOT of people asking thse very questions at Bashfest. Guess what that will do for me??? Make my hobby shop lots of money? Yup. Introduce many new people to the hobby? Check. Teach people the fundamentals of machinery, engines, electric, batteries, voltage properties, ect.?? Sure..

Most of all? To avoid people who treat them like crap!!!

As a future business owner, and an Ambassador of this hobby, i wont refuse anyone of knowledge, i will answer any question i can, And within reason, let ANYONE drive my stuff,.including slidewayz. Already did. Christmas Eve, i was out drifting. I let 9 people drive that car.....8 of which never drove one before. They loved it, and you can bet i will see them come the day i open my doors.

Now, think about this: They walk in, and say..." oh look, its the guy that was too good for us to explain thse to us, or answer a simple question. Think we will spend our money somewhere else". That aint gonna happen.

Remember guys, at some point, we all asked questions about what we found interesting. If we didnt, then how did we learn? Even if you say " the internet" you still researched it. So, you are the web to them. And, if you say, "self taught"...well, we know better.

Remember, we all hear this all the time, and i hear " mine is faster-it came from radio shack". You deal with it, knowing the truth. Those who ask questions will buy if they get the right answers...thus spend the money that funds the R & D of all the new stuff we get so excited about.

Okay, I will step down off my soap box now.

Go Ron!

In 2002, I was living in a city that had only one track and it was owned by a jerk and the hobby shop was run by his two sons who gave new meaning to bad customer service.

After dealing with their BS for 6 months, I decided I'd rather take a break from racing than give those guys more of my money.

I'm sure less people would quit the hobby if more LHS's adopted Ron's attitude.

Well stuff happens.

I will never hand my controller, for lets say a big nitro to a littler 5 year old kid, who was previously throwing rocks before he say what i was doing (racing..bashing).

It all depends on the type of person.

I really, absolutely don't mind sharing knowledge, in fact i love doing that. It makes you feel more proud of what you own and how much you know about it, also it helps refresh what you know about it. PLUS you just educated another person.

ps. im not saying all 5yr. kids are like that, its just a common, general example. please take no offense :)

Really they questions are not that bad, i'm glad to answer, it might help people get into rc. Now for the, can i drive it? I just take two when i go out for a day. If someone i don't know wants to try, i just let them use my wore out MT2, while i use my baby. That lets them get a feel for it and then they can decide whether to get into rc. More times then not one day you'll go back and see them with one. That helps are sport, lhs, and in the end makes our products we buy slightly cheaper.

I got the number one question:

Person in complete admiration and awe:

"So, it runs on NITRO? WWOOOOOOOWWWWW"

WH\hat Julian states is true, your RC car is going to be there unless the person approaching you will steal it. No matter how eager I am to drive it, usually I will stop it, remove the cover and go into the basics of all the components, type of suspension, clutch, etc. IMO, it is the ideal moment to make friends, just socialize with other poeple and expose them to the RC world in a friendly way without the harrasment of hobby shop clerks. It gets repetitive after a while, some of them might disagree about the cost of the hobby or the age that I have and I respect that as well.

Happy Rcing

I actually like it when folks ask questions also. I like to educate them on hobby grade RC's. But, when they ask to drive it I draw the line. I let my 10 year old son drive my nitro's as long as he behaves. He is a good driver, but I can tell when he is going over to the dark side by the smirk on his face, then dad gets the radio back :)

1. No, its just emitting a trail of smoke because it likes contributing to the green house effect.

2. Faster than you can run

3. An arm and a leg, why do you think I'm missing mine.

4. Yes, it has this boost bootle thing here that makes it go 200mph, its like Nitrous in your car.

I had 4 teenagers walkin by asking between them selves...one was going thats petrol...another going no its electric (it is electric) the other going its petrol...the other going...NO ITS ELECTRIC. I suppose most people only see nitros go fast instead of lipo/brushless...well most ppl seem to have nitros when they have proper rc here (nothing against nitro...i just can't be arsed with it anymore hehe).

In my town there are only about 3 or 4 people that have nitro rc's so when I'm out running mine, I just expect people to approach me and ask questions. I don't mind the "how fast does it go" or the "is it gas powered" or "how much did that cost" questions. But I don't like the "can I drive it" one, and I have no problem telling them no. When I first got into nitro I didn't think I had to worry about other people crashing my truck because I know that even if I asked someone else if I could drive thier truck, I know I wouldn't crash it and probably wouldn't even drive it fast. But after a couple times of telling people just remember you DON'T have to go this fast and then seeing my tuck do multiple flips 20 seconds later... nobody drives it anymore unless they have nitros themselves.

I used to drive in my neighborhood while this cross-dresser would walk around (long story short he was a 4 year old walking around in high heels, his mother's purse and a bra) and aimlessly wander into the path of my car. Once lucifer (the 9-year old across the street from me who has a knack for breaking things and stealing) wanted to drive, but sent the little crossdresser over to ask me. He comes running over and says "you have to stop!!!!"

Me: why?
Cross-dresser: You have to stop now!!
Me: *sighing* why do I have to stop (trying to be nice)
Cross-dresser, with an attitude: You have to stop, because stephen (lucifer) wants to drive your car!!
Me, with an attitude: No

So he runs over and tells lucifer that he can't drive, so he goes into his house and grabs his radio-shack-mobile and challenges me to a race with a smuck grim on his face. To rub it in, I park my car in reverse. My brother says go and I'm down and back before he's half-way done. He then offers to pay 60 dollars for my evader. I say he's crazy and start to pack it in and go inside. He then keeps pestering me until I tell my brother to go inside and get my father, who "scares" him off (by scare I mean tells him to go home with authority, not beat him! :p)

Bottom line: I don't mind educated questions, which we get at the local track and I'm glad to answer. In fact, I'm more than willing to answer, because it means more people at the track and it helps pay the dues. But stupid questions like that just gets to me.

I probably think I will be the guy looking at what other people have and keep my mouth closed, until I really want to ask you something really important and can't wait to know... I don't steal I just look. I'm very shy when I don't know people, maybe it's bc of my size ( slim and 5'11 -130 lbs, can't hurt a bee. So I don't want to get beaten or cursed at)

Maybe they are just trying to be nice and not bug you while you are getting all of your stuff set up. Maybe [as speed said] they are shy, and just really have no reason to engage in conversation with you. They arent psycho stalkers.

Lol, I was reading this thread thinking, "or, you could just answer their questions and help them out. That way, they don't continue to ask the same question and they get their answers! Everyone's happy!"

I mean seriously guys, lighten up! The hobby is about having fun and letting others have fun/learn about it!

If someone asks me to drive my car, my answer will depend on the following:

What car am I driving? If it's my 20mph nearly stock XXX-S, maybe! Depends on who is asking. If it's nitro, my uber delicate Mini-T, or my 40+mph E-Maxx, I'll carefully consider. I mean, if its a 4 year old kid wanting to drive my HV-Maxx, I'll first try to find a good way to say "sorry" and then see if I can let him drive something else, like if I can quickily grab my beaten up X-Mod from the garage. Realize, I've never been asked, so I'm just saying what I'd say in the future.

When someone wants to know about it, my answers are like this:

Speed:

"My best guess is ___, but I've never clocked it" (in the past when asked I said something around those lines)

"Where'd you get it?"

"A hobby shop. Also online."

etc etc.

Now, I haven't really been asked that much. I normally drive them at my dad's in the summer and thats on a barren street or parking lot. Not many bystanders, except the occasional parking lot cop. They normally either continue to go on their way or one once got out and set up cones for the nitro tourers. Fun it was.

Exactly! Way back when (I was 10) we went to HobbyTown parking lot races. There was no electricity or official pits. People normally parked around the track that was PVC piping on the asphalt) and set up table next to their car and used their car for power. Some of the racers were very serious about it (it now seems funny to me. Although the end prize was a nitro buggy and there were A,B,C, and D mains, it wasn't that serious. It was a parking lot!) Those serious racers were kinda weird. Some (ok, one) was extremely nice. We looked up to him and loved him. He was amazing at racing and had much invested in RC. Others were jerks and got mad for asking questions.

When I start racing again at the track (off road and on road), I'll be carefull to only ask questions that really matter, not "what kinda car is that" Mostly because I'll probably know the answers to the dumb questions, or I can figure them out, but also because I don't want to bother the racers and aggrivate them as they prepare for their mains. I'm a little shy when it comes to that.

I usually name the car when he's pulling it out of the back of their car. I then ralay the info to my dad telling him:

- What kind of car it is (1/10, 1/8, nitro, monster, ect.)
- What kind of motor it has (if it appears stock)
- if it's faster than our cars, or more expensive (I've only commented on a race revo a guy had and this solid-aluminum maxx driving around)
- and if I've seen the guy before, because we've made friends with a couple of the guys there.

I don't mind telling my dad what they run because he's as interested in them as I am. I got pulled into the hobby by asking my dad all kinds of questions about radios and batteries and I pulled my dad in because of how much faster my first evader went than his new-bright CXT. It's been fun racing eachother and fixing things that go wrong or diagnosing our cars because I'll miss something on mine that he'll spot and vise versa.

I don't mind the educated questions, it's the dumb questions that gets me...

EDIT: heh, 666th post. (bad luck! :p)

well guys every time we go to the track to race, we purposley set up away from track so that anyone coming to watch has to walk bye. We will answer any questions and offer to help anyone.. As for people who cant walk & talk & chew gum at the same time they wont be bothering you as they spend to much time worry about how they will do in the next race.. This is a hobby for all ages, can question be annoying sometimes but remember their really is no dumb questions only Stupid answers.. The more information you give the more the hobby grows.. Thus the prices should come down.

Every time I run mine on my street I get about 20 odd kids, most of them I'd never seen before and sometimes their parents gathering around me. I always answer them but I "dumb it down" for the younger ones and answer adults properly, none of them have bought one yet. The good thing is Irish kids are used to being told to **** off so I can just say that. :)

I get pretty anoid when people ask "how much", I always say "if you have to ask, you cant afford it"
I have a neighbor who got into RC because of me. He thinks he knows everything. I ussually get a kick out of listening to him talk RCs, he pronounces Chassis as Chastity.
He never listens when I try to help him out, so I play dumb now.

I dont really mind too much when people come over and check my cars out. Its more because they havent seen anything like them before or havent seen one for a long time. It only lasts for a minute then everyone does what we came for, bash. :)

To some yes they are toys to people like myself its a hobby just like restoring classic cars and things like that.

you could argue that to those that race it is a sport.

But after a couple times of telling people just remember you DON'T have to go this fast and then seeing my tuck do multiple flips 20 seconds later... nobody drives it anymore unless they have nitros themselves.

so you wouldnt let someone with a electric car drive your (nitro truck)

you could argue that to those that race it is a sport.

I agree with you 100%
The last thing I would call any of my cars are toys. What toys can go 40-50mph stock never mind modded. Heck they even have hydraulic brakes available, what "toys" would have that option. Then get into the materials being used, alloys and carbon fibers, never mind the time that is involved.
I wouldnt want things any other way, unless I could restore/build a classic. But, I dont have the room for that :( , these RCs are my classic cars for now :D

The only RCs I would consider to be toys, would be ones that are bought at Toy stores.
I donnt want to start a flame war, just wanted to add my 2 cents.
