Chinese researchers became the first to control pigeons via remote control

Scientists from the Robot Engineering Technology Research Center at Shandong University of Science and Technology successfully used micro electrodes implanted in a pigeon's brain to make it fly left, right, up or down. The scientists used implants to stimulate different sections of the pigeon brain according to signals that scientists sent via a computer, which forced the pigeon to comply with the operator’s instructions.

Su Xuecheng, chief scientist on the project, said that his trials are the first experiment conducted like this in the world -- the scientists previously tried something similar with lab mice two years ago. Improvements in device design and technology is one of the leading reasons this trial worked.

The Chinese team did not specify exactly how the remote-control pigeon would be utilized in real-world applications. Su has successfully carried out the same experiments on mice since 2005.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is also working on trying to control animals. Earlier this year, DARPA announced a project to actively manipulate a shark's brain signal, allowing scientists to accurately control the shark's movements. This technology would be used to help these 'stealth sharks' patrol the open seas.

I don't want to think what the future will be like with all this stuff. We as in humans are killing ourselves and animals. And with a future like this, the world will be chaos. Something has to be done to make a huge change or, in my opinion, the world will be just humans and nothing other than us, no animals or anything we saw 10 years ago. Well not real animals if we are controlling them.

This is a legitimate research field, on TLC recently I saw a guy who is a quadrapalegic who has volunteered to have his brain wired up to control function, looks like a big old trailer hitch plug coming out the top of his head, the good news is not only were they able to make it so he got a tiny movements back in his arms and legs(very small amounts) but it also allowed them to hardwire his wheel chair for movement rather than having to use the tube with his mouth, they think eventually they will be able to just bypass the spinal cord with wiring and cure some paralized people, the dark side would be if you can control things like direction there is the possibility you could control things like aggression, or even block things like fear(super soldiers=no fear) Of course us americans will probably pervert the technology to give 73 year old men erections lol.

I'm part of a research project being done by a neurosurgeon at a local medical university. They've installed a plug in my skull with some wires connected to my brain and they can record my dreams. You should see some of this s#!t... I'm gonna start selling some of it on ebay.
