Well, honestly I'd say that's about normal for an MVP. I have 3 of 'em, & they all get that hot(they even get VERY warm running on 4 cells, in both my 1/12 scale car & when breaking in brushes for just over a minute). However, they do seem to keep churning out the power regardless of the heat, so I just decided to put up with it(I use them in my TC3 & in my 12L3, when I get the chance to run 1/12 scale)...... :)

I knew the Reedy MVP could run pretty warm, but yesterday I found out just how warm, or should I just say blazing hot.
I ran it in a regular 5 min. heat, it got so hot that it, dried up the plastic and cracked the lower deck of my TA04 right beneath the motor. Once I got the motor out
it was hot, and I mean too hot to hold for about a half an hour.
Well so much for that, I put my trusty P2K back in there.
Does anybody know what is the best application to run this motor in ?, 'cause everybody I know that uses it for touring says it gets too hot.

Thanks for the response Grizzbob, I think I'll do the same, I'll keep it for my TC3.
You know it's funny though "I was just reading an advertisement for the MVP last night, Reedy touts the new MVP as running much cooler than previous versions, After replacing a couple parts in my car 'cause of
how hot it gets I'd hate to see how hot the old ones got.

Jackhammer, You might try squaring the brush. That's been the solution to the heat problem. File a little off the leading & trailing edge of the brush, untill the face is square, & it'll run cool, fast, @ gearing close to a P2K. The other thing that seems to happen on them is that the brush hoods don't always line up. These are the two things that the top motor builders have been doing to make them run better. Try a search for "Big Jim's Motor Tips", & I think it'll get you there.

Something else that strikes me, jackhammer, is that while the MVP runs as hot as it does, the Reedy Ti mods(which use the same design) actually run pretty cool. The 13 double I bought recently is a real sweetheart(it's Ti-based), & runs as cool or cooler than my older D3.5 based 13 turn did..... :)

hummmmmmmm so the MVP gets too hot too easily???that's not good...should i be looking at the green machine or the P2k as an alternative if i wanna run stock or is there a better motor out there for stock that's within the same price range??

Thank you very much for the responses guys, thanks railman, I'll look into that.
Oh, mmmoy782, I also have a P2k, and for stock racing I love it, they're the Sh%t.

I think the MVP works the best for offroad. I run them in my truck. The P2K worked better in my TC than the MVP did. Also with offroad, the motor is out in the air more.

mmmoy, unless your car has a plastic motor mount, the heat doesnt seem to effect the mvp at all.

No, the composite materials on the TC3 can take LOTS of heat(it takes a soldering iron's heat to soften it), & as hot as the MVP can get, it doesn't get THAT hot. It'll be just fine in a TC3(I should know, I have 2 of them)..... :)
