i can't speak for other tracks, but at our track we will welcome any brand of BL with open arms in the mod class.... other tracks may not...
it will be interesting to see how ROAR and NORRCA rule on these motors for sanctioned competition...
ROAR may make them legal in mod very quickly, or they may wait until Trinity or Reedy put out a competitor, or they make an entirely new class for them...
it will be interesting to see how all this pans out, but if nothing less, it should make for a VERY interesting 02' race season...
peace out... :)

and here is the "official" word straight from NOVAK....
Posted by Charlie..
"Hello everyone,
We had planned to show Brushless Demo cars at the Hobby Show this year. But unfortunately the prototypes stopped working just before the show and we were not able to repair them.
We will be offering 3 different systems.
A competition Forward and Brake model optimized for forward only operation. 4-7 cells. Can be used for on-road and offroad applications.
A sport Forward and Reverse model, 4-7 cell operation. Used in all types of cars and trucks.
A High voltage system. 12 - 14 cells forward and reverse single motor for the Emaxx. The motor should be pretty amazing power wise.
More than likely the Competition model will feature different profiles for the power of the motor. So you will have two motor in one just by changing the profile of the ESC.
We are also still working on making the ESC programmable through a device like the Pitwizard. That option would be more used by the hobby shops that want to race the motors. When you sign up for racing you would have the motor for that night (or month) downloaded to your ESC. This would provide a level playing field for everyone. The battery and motor war can finally come to an end.
Prices are not final but we have, from the beginning said that it will be priced comparably to a High End ESC and Motor.
What sense does it make to make something like this that no one can afford.
We are hoping to have everything ready for market in January 2002"
peace out.... :)

Why do so many people have their undies in a knot about whether a product is allowed in 'racing", meaning ROAR or NORRCA?
I would venture to say that 95% or more of all hobbyists do not race in sanctioned events so what's the big deal if a product doesn't make it into racing?

Wow, my sentiments EXACTLY. Read the other BL thread ... we pretty much just said the exact same thing ! :p

well i'm part of the 5% that does race in sanctined ROAR events..
so it matters a Great Deal to me....
what percentage of backyard bashers are gonna drop 4 bills on a motor and speed controller?? LOL... probably a much smaller percentage than the racing crowd will.... so those "5%" racers may very well buy 80% of all the Novak BL's out there if they become legalized....
peace out... :)

Strictly conjecture on both our parts ...
Count me as one of the backyard bashers that will buy one (several).
If you go to the MAXX forums, you will find quite a few bashers spending 4 bills.
The brushless motor will be succesful with or without ROAR approval. That is all I am saying. In fact, the sanctionaing bodies will be forced into legalizing them due to popularity.
Folks, bookmark this thread. You heard it here first.

Heres what I envision(its short and sweet ) Most all backyard/street bashers buy them, forcing big name motor companies to make them, to "get on the band wagon" with Novak, Modeltech etc.. So they make some money while there is the "Brushless craze". Because of the amount of people owning them, and companies making them, ROAR and NORRCA are forced to make a class for em'
Of course this IS a theory, and may not happen!
Jeep, I said the same thing....

Imagine 5-10 years from now when BL motors take over, people will say, "remember when the first brushless motors came out? those fools were paying like $200 a pop, hehehee."
