Does having a 4wd truck make that much of a difference over a 2wd truck? Does having a 4wdw make it go faster? If you have a 4wd does it run the batteries out faster than having a 2wd truck? Which would be better with a midnight 2 stock motor, 2 sanyo 2400 batts, traxxas XL-1 esc, and a Futaba magnum controller?
Later.... =)
p.s. Thanx for helping a newbie!!! :)

4WD = more grip, but also it's generally heavier than a 2wd truck.

4WD means you have better grip and chances of you being "hanged" in a gap or small pot holes are lower. It also means that you have better manouver. However, this also means that the same motor will have to drive a total of 4 wheels, be it via belt or shaft. This means that 4WD will always run slower than a 2WD, having all things being equal.
The bottom line is what are you interested in. I love the fact that a 4WD can overcome a lot obstacles and at the same time I would love to have decent speed, so I decided to go for a buggy, which is a 4WD, higher bottom clearance and reasonable speed, even though it will be slower than a tourer or a rally vehicle.
I hope this clears some doubts. Cheers, and let the leave some tyre marks!
4wd - More grip, heavyer, and uses slightly more battery. Get this if you have hilly off-road or rocks where the back wheels will get stuck. Also on tall grass.
2wd - Pushes w/back, light, less batt. Use if you have mainly flat and hilly areas to drive.
