My 12*2 Speed Gems melt its endbell after three comm cut and three brushes replacement.
The brushes I replaced were Race Prep compound P brushes.

No, but I have a 19 turn double that I bought in march and had the com cut once, and it is already worn out beyond hope of recovery. No idea why. I only race the thing on saturdays.

You'll only melt the endbell when something is wrong, like overgearing the motor, which is most likely the case.

Speed gems are really not that good for the reasons you said, melted endbells and quick wearing arms. I have seen endbells melt on these low turn motors and the gearing was quite low.

I geared my B3 with 20T pinion and 81 spur.
I don't think it was overgeared, according to the AE's instruction maual.

I'd have agree cck, I ran a Fantom 13x2 in my FT B3 at 20/81 and it was only warm to the touch at the end of a 5 minute race.

FTB3 geared @ 19/81 and 18/81 ran waaaayyyyyy hot using speed gems 12 and 11. Orion or peak or fantom for machine wounds. Reedy 4 mods. :p

My Speed Gems 9T2 was geared at 81/18, 19, and 20 and it wasn't too bad after a 4 minute heat...of course I had to be marshalled alot because that was waaaaaaaay too much power for me to handle :)
