Would it be smart for me to run a mamba max 7700kv motor powered via 2s2p lipo in a losi xx-4? i know the car has belts and that worries me. I figure a shaft drive should be more durable but i've been wrong before.

thanks,
nick

Should be ok. Just make sure your belts have the correct amount of tension, and you may also want to get used to driving it around so as not to strip teeth off the belt (basically, learn to drive with more finesse' if you can't already). Make use of the slipper too! (The belts probably will end up slipping though with such power).

I have this exact setup.

MM7700, Maxamps 2s in a XX4.

I have raced it hard and I have seen the MM get a little lot sometimes but never thermals or anything.

I might choose the 6900 MM now that it's available.

I run the 7700 on 6cells in a RS4 (also belt driven), no problems as far as belt slipping, slipper is set to slip. I have noticed some accelerated wear and tear along the edges. Of course I been running the same belt for many years before going brushless, so it is probably due for new one. I picked up a couple spares on ebay real cheap, so I am ready if it needs it.
