View Full Version : Talk me out of buying a xxx-s...

I'm aware the losi xxx-s isn't the fastest touring car around, mainly due to weight. What I'm looking for is durability, since I'm strictly a basher. I like the sealed belt drive, and the fact that it is a tub style chassis, not double-decker carbon fiber, which in my experience, makes the car less durable. I will be installing a mamba-max system with a 5700 motor and an orion lipo, so this sucker should fly. Another plus I've seen is that they go pretty cheap on ebay, likely due to not being the most popular car. Any reason why I shouldn't buy one, considering the above criteria? Also, anyone know what wheelbase this car is, 190 or 200mm? Thanks guys!

Im sure its a good TC, have you considered a TC3 though? redily avalible parts and can be had cheep. Plus it has a shaft drive, good for bashing!

I've owned my XXX-S for about 3 or 4 years now and its been bashed hard. Between bashing into walls and drifting into to other hard objects nothing as broken or bent. Plus the G+ version used to be a great race chassis a few years back.

Fine car, buy it if you like it. You won't have any problems.

I have one, and I'm going to get a replacement.. :D

It's actually a nice car to work on, and there are parts still availble for it (some aluminum parts as well.) It seems to me the drivetrain tends to be less free than other belt cars I've seen at the track, and the graphite/plastic steering racks, casterblocks, etc. can be damaged severly in even a medium hit...

If you're mainly bashing though, it may not be a bad choice because it's easy to maintain and parts so far are still available for it. I would get some of the aluminum aftermarket parts for it though to make it a little more durable... and I think good quality ball bearings would be another wise investment..perhaps even ceramic bearings... I know if I were to keep mine, that would be the first thing I would get to hop it up....

you could probably pick up a Tamiya tb-o2 chassis and bash with that

We race out in our parking lot at work and have found it way more durable than anything else - even shaft drives. It's sealed drive alone makes it worth the investment. But also we love the ease of working on it. Bonus is Losi's parts always available.

190/200 isn't wheelbase. It's width. Don't get the two confused :p
190mm wide is correct though.

Minnesh,
You need to go to gearchart.com and run a rollout chart for this car. You should not be dead slow. I run mine at our local track and it's just as fast as any other car out there. I'm running a 44 rollout, which is extremely high, but I'm running a 14.5 brushless and my temps ar fine. I would advise switching over to 64p gears though.
