View Full Version : Motor spinning wrong way.

I remember reading about this before, but can't find the thread, so I'll ask again. I picked up a few used motors, one of them spun the wrong way. The positive was to positive, the negative was to negative, the comm was polished(Cobra comm cutter on the way :) ) with a Magic Motorsports and the brushes were new. When I hit the throttle, the motor spun backwards slowly! Reversed the servo on the controller, still went backwards, but this time very quickly and I popped my schotky diode :( This was a 12T double. Is there any way to fix this? Or is the motor junk? Hope not...I'm running a 9T2 and it's too wild for me to handle :)

unscrew the endbell and turn it 180o and screw it back on and try again.

I think you need to loosen the screws on the top of the motor and rotate the top of the 180 degrees. That should do it.

Hmm, that was easy :) Thanks all! It must have been reassembled incorrectly from the person I bought it from. I'll have to remark the can.

my mod motor used to do that, i spun it around, what if i spun it around too much? what would happen?

probibly throw off your timing, dont ask me about timing i have no idea what timing does yet.

Ok, so now it spins the right way, but the timing is most likely off. You should find somebody that can show you how to set the timing on your motors, and set it at 12-15 degrees. It wouldn't hurt to check all your mods.

Nairb: It should be okay, I checked my 9T2 Speed Gems and the markings are lined up the same way. Heh not many people really know timing. The LHS owner really stressed that I should mark the can because he doesn't know anybody that can help me if I mess up the alignment! I wonder what the stock timing of a Speed Gems is?

Timming is: where the enbell is located on the can. Increated time will make the motor go faster but increas wear. Negitive or retard timming will make the motor go slow.

timing is how close the brushes are to the magnets forward timing is good the farther forward the lower efeincy the faster the motor goes and the lower torque you have although there are exceptions like never ever retard the timing unless you want to go fast backwards it will also have the efects of forward timing execpt you will go faster backwards and dont set your timing neutral ether you want some timing other wise it will lose power and efecncy

Timing in a nutshell, so I don't sound like I am trying to be the one who knows more than I really do:
Positive timing will add top end revving power, negative timing will add torque. That is all you need to know.

Actually, Negative timing is bad. I think you meant to say, "Positive timing will add top end revving power (more RPMs), LESS (but still positive) timing will add torque."

Gutter, I just bought a Trinty Retro Speedworks Solid Gold (12T double). The timing on that is set to 30 (the notch between the brush hoods is lined up at the 30 mark on the can).

Bones, I literally picked it up last night and so far haven't had time to put it in any of my cars.
Otherwise it looks very nice, thanks for asking :)
