I'm just going to be painting a 1/8 buggy body in the near future (no airbrushes here) and just want to do a simple EVH paint job like my stadium truck I did. (red is funky looking from the photo)
I stripped the black layout first, then used mask on the entire underside. Sprayed black, removed mask, stripped again.....sprayed Red.......striped again, and did the final White color.....
Is there an easier way? I'm not looking for perfection.....I'm thinking I could use black pinstriping underside, and save the whole black masking deal......

Actually, yes. Well, in my opinion, there is. Lay liquid mask in the entire shell. Draw out your pattern on the outside, the overspray film will stil lbe on, so it wil lcome off with that. Taking a sharp hobby knife, cut out where you want the black to be, if you arent sure about cutting a straight line, lay some tape as a guide. dont go too deep, the LM will peel up easy, ( jsutremember, 3-4 good coats) and spray your black. Then cut out and peel everywhere the red will be, paint, then the remaining mask up, and back it all in white. I know its still a pain, but your truck shows the rewards of time spent,....its looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

With liquid masking it would be simple to layout and cut all of the striping. Then peel and paint the black, then the red, then the white.
And with liquid masking it would be a simple task to cut lines for window trims,as well, giving the job the next level of finshing.
I do know it would be harder to get nice straight lines with LMF and xacto versus tape, but with tape you black line being on top of the red and white, you would have to paint them last (red-white-black). Maybe with careful back-masking you could keep the black from showing thru the white. Just tedious and time consuming.
Personally I would use LMF and take time to get the trim lines as stright as possible.

Maybe that was my problem......I put down the tape first, then liquid masked over it, then had to cut out the stripes by hand anyways........
I did sell the truck, but kept the body :D

that would do it!
Meh, dont feel bad, live and learn man. I have had some disasters during my learning curve, trust me. You seem to find a new or different way , or an easier way, or something on every shell too.
Make sure you post pics of the buggy when done!

Will do....it will be on a 1/8 Sportwerks Turmoil......white wheels & white wing should look better than the Yellow wheels on the Truck :D
I was thinking I could just rit dye the wing & wheels Red, and just use some white & black stripe tape for the wing as well.....
