View Full Version : Damage Estimate - Closest to the Cost Wins!

Ok, guys. Here's the situation, driving home from some friends last night, I hit Bambi's mom with my wife's 2002 Buick Rendezvous. Fortunately, I was only going about 35-40, so the damage isn't severe and the car is still driveable.
I figured we could have some fun, I'll post some pics of the damage and everyone can guess as to the cost of the repair.
I'll be taking it to a Buick dealership that my dad is a body man at, he'll be doing the repair (but I don't get any cost breaks). My insurance policy calls for direct replacement of the parts using genuine GM stuff, not aftermarket.
From what I can tell, it will definitely need these parts: Headlight unit, hood, fender replaced or at least repainted, grill, bumper cover. I'm sure some other parts will be necessary as well.
So let the bidding begin! The closest guess wins, and the winner gets... nothing! Except the joy of winning. :D

Oh, I'm definitely gonna have the hood replaced. As much as I pay for insurance here in Michigan (no-fault state), and never had a claim on my insurance before, I'm going to take full advantage. All new OEM parts, nothing repaired or aftermarket.

Your going to take the insurance for all it's worth? That is the reason that our insurance is so high. The hood can be fixed easily nothing wrong with the fender. I used to live in Michigan so I do know what the insurance was like but still. I was only paying 450 every 6 monthes for full coverage on a 99 Chevy silverado back in 2002. And I was only 21 at the time so I don't know what your complaining about. When I moved to Wis my full coverage went from 4550/6 monthes to 300 every 6 monthes.

I wasn't complaining about anything. But when I pay as much as I do for insurance every year and have NEVER had a claim against my policy EVER, why should I settle for substandard, aftermarket parts or a vehicle that isn't as good as new? I never said I was "going to take the insurance for all it's worth", but that I was going to take advantage of my policy's rider of having new OEM parts installed.

In all I paid around 800 every 6 months for all the trucks I had. the 69 and 72 were just PLPD because they wern't driven too much and I didn't worry about them.

Dude! thats totally fixable! Just cut most of the body off replace it with tubes, add some new wheels, and a bug screen and blam: instant AWD dune buggy!
My first car was a 1996 Plymouth Neon (4 door) when i was 17, I was paying a whopping $150/month on my insurance, but i payed cash ($3000 from my savings account my parents started me ;) ) and so i was able to go liability only on it.

The hood on the Rendezvous is aluminum, wouldn't want to try to bend the aluminum back from a crease that deep. Also, on further inspections it needs a new fender too, it is hard to see in the pics, but is bent really bad where the bumper attached to it.

It was storage insurance. storage means that the vehicle and or driver are not covered on a public road. Through my insurance company I did. I was not under my parents policy but they had been with that agent for almost 20 years at that point.

Here's all the punctuation marks and letters that you saved:
W , -i yo , n . T ' . T a (I assume that you saved all the letters from the word $hit), , I ' . I ' (like isn't a quantative modifier) . I ' gh (unless you meant you weren't always stoned) . I ' ing e . I ture , " do yo a for .
I think that after seeing how educated you are, I would take all of my cars and some from other members on here and bring them on in. I like how you aren't sure how many cars you are working on, 25 comes to mind (but you still have time to waste on here telling everyone that you would charge more) and that you use the local Maaco shop to estimate what you should charge. Rock on! Really, in order for your comment to carry weight, you should be able to back it up with a better statement than what you sputtered out previously.
jamesbernatchez
02-07-2007, 12:22 PM
Well I guess you would like a free job. Thats what it sounds like to me. Please take it to Macco if you would like an under par paintjob. Perhaps even some horrible bodywork. Im the best in my area and I have approximatly twenty five jobs at the moment. I am the only shop within five feet. Im not too high, otherwise customers wouldn't bring their vehicles to me. I just try do whats best for the customer. The body shop I work at told me not to charge any less than six thousand dollars. I printed the picture and showed it to the employees at my local shop and they thought my prices were well within reason.
I should mention that I am talking about the lego town I built. There is only one shop in the area.I employ six people and we all make a great living doing paint and body work. I have to go, my mother is calling me for lunch. She made my favorite: mayo, mustard, ham, cheese, and frosted flakes on two toasted pop tarts.
I fixed it for ya :)
Wow, 25 jobs at once, huh? You sure must really bring in the cash. You probably have a really nice car too. Thats pretty amazing, considering from your grammar, it looks like you ended your school career at the age of 11.
