Thanks to Jason Sams for getting these shots!

Wow! We hope Kyosho sells scads of these things, looks like a great way to get into 4WD with a capable car without spending tons of cash. Plastic shocks trim the price, and all the molded parts look identical to kit spec. We'll post Kyosho's official info soon.

Wowie looks good. Hopefully they will have RTR versions of the touring car as well.

are the molded parts made out of the same material? we know kyosho is famous for using a cheaper material in their RTR's.

Goes without saying that Kyoshos are just the most durable and among best quality cars out there...really are excellent machines!
This thing looks no different...may get one :)

What are you talking about; the ZX-5 is the most brittle of all of the 4wd cars on the market. And yes I have seen a lot of people who had them get rid of them for that reason. Yes Kyosho has some really nice cars, just that the ZX-5 (and maybe their 2wd buggy) needs a new plastic as it is too brittle, other wise the car is a very good car.

Also this will also help the class grow.

Its nice that it comes rtr. Hopefully we will see more people running 4wd now. I have heard that they are pretty brittle and people switching to losi or jconcepts instead. I myself ran xx4 and xxx4 and now just got a BJ4 and feel its the best out right now.

Hmm, now that you mention it you may be right. i remember a couple years ago i did have a few Kyoshos all based on the Pureten Ep3...those things where solid! all the bevel gears where steel rather than plastic and the rather than ABS plastic they had a fiberglass chassis...
that said they where fairly heavy cars :P
i think the ZX-5 RTR has got a good design but the plastic does look a little brittle as you put it....

Ah well, the old cars where a little more expensive than most...

Still nice car and if your racing you should expect to break stuff!

It is RTR and is going to be one of the only RTR 4WD buggies on the market. Parts are made cheap to get the price cheap. There is graphite parts made by Xtreme R/C for this kit so parts are out there for them

im sure i have seen a CF version of the ZX-5...perhaps the quality is better on that...

The other RTR kyosho buggy sold was the Zaboon buggy a few years ago...thing was tough as nails! had one and hardly broke anything and this was soem seriously hard bashing!

It’s not the chassis that is week, it’s the a-arms, and a few other parts that tend to break easy (I know those are common parts to break on any car, but they just tend to break quicker then what the other cars do). Yes with racing you should expect to break some parts, but not if you just barely touch the wall or piping (other cars you had to hit harder then just a nick to break it). So yes it is a really good car, but the parts issue needs to be looked in to.

Also it would help if the LHS would carry parts for the 4WD cars. (excluding Losi as their parts are sold almost everywhere)

where are the Kyoshos being produced now? i remember they used to be malasiya and the parts quality was awsome (ran the Zaboon buggy for 2 years and only broke 3 front arm carriers and wore out a pair of front hubs).
So it was a fairly strong buggy!

Thats great to see Kyosho make a RTR version. Who knows, maybe Losi will do an RTR of its XXX-4 or XX-4 too. The academy SB V1 RTR was a decent try at the market and I hope they make an SB V2 RTR version as well.

I highly doubt it. They dont even make a XXX RTR

Stranger things have happened. There is always a first and Losi seems to like to do that.

Does anybody know if Kyosho is really putting any steam behind this for international racing? I have never followed 4wd 1/10th, but recently I find it all interesting. I have seen very little of this being fielded in Pro races though....but then again please rmbr I only recently started following the category.

What has the ZX5 competed in successfully so far?

They really are just starting to put together an electric racing team. They have Mark Pavidis and Cody King running cars right now and will have more people running the cars soon. With the new 2wd (RB5) coming this month Kyosho hopes to make a real dent the electric offroad market. I am sure Losi Jr. will be helping with that as well.

here's a review (http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/zx5) on the kit version... it definitely looks a little less stellar than its "kit" counterpart imo

Depending on the price, this probably can be a good racer. Guys need to remember that even if you kit ran you $500, doesn't mean exactly everything on this is absolutely necessary to win. Your driving is what counts if the car has the stuff, and this car may have it in the form its being presented.

They should release a kit version of this with no electronics, good cheapo alternative for those starting off in 4wd, just like the Academy SB V2 Sport. Just upgrade when you feel necessary.

They did release a kit version of the ZK-5 RTR. They released it last fall.

Why? That one is $279.99, alot cheaper than the BJ4 - $475 and Tamia TRF501X.

Because, if you have a cheaper version, you have the chance to get more people into the hobby. Even at 279.99 that can still seem like alot for a 1/10 scale offroad vehicle in general terms compared to other offroad offerings (I am talking overall, not just 4wd). If someone decides they want to get into 4wd to try it out, or has the choice to start with either 4wd or 2wd and base alot of it on price, a cheaper version can make a world of difference. If you can grab them into 4wd right away, better chance of growing the class.

Thanks for the info Casper...should have thought of CK, electric racers successes in Truggy came up i na nother thread somewhere recently.

On another thought...I did not even realise the Tamiya was every released to the public. I heard so little about it I was thinking the project may have been shelved.

Would love to see HB/Kyosho/TRF slugging it out with Yokomo and the class favourite of Losi and the BJ4. 4wd this year should be hot! I am seriously thinking about getting into the class when I return if they run it whichever area I will be living in.

That is what we saw at Cactus. It was neat to see all the different manufactures with competative cars. It will be a good year for 4wd! :D
