Can someone help me? I have a little cousin that would like to get into RC. Can anyone reccomend a cheap kit(price) that is very durable. I was looking to spend less than $100 on the kit. Tamiya super hornet?

ummm... 4 wheel drive for a newbie ?
Well, they are forgiving on the track at least.

For newbies I recommend:
1) Inexpensive
2) Simple
3) Popular kit form a large manufacturer
4) NOT RTR (build it yourself and learn something dangit !)

The Lazer 2000 does not meet my criteria number 2 and 3. But, it probably is an OK kit once it is running propely.

I guess I would recommend, for dirt anyway, the RC10 B3 budget kit (whatever it is called). Then upgrade as needed or as interest rises.

i think the b3 is more then 100. im fairly sure the traxxas rustler and bandit are less then $100 (for the kit... not rtr) And yes i know those arent quite up to par compared to a b3, but you can always upgrade later.

now that i think about it i agree.the rustler is a good choice, the rustler was my first truck and they are not hard to drive and they are easy to upgrade,so yea i think the rustler is a good pic.

i say go for a monster truck of some sort(like a peed) they are cheap, very simple, and a total blast. get a B3 when you have more expierence and a bigger budget

I think I would take a different rout. I think he would be better off buying a used B3, T3, XX, or XXT than a lesser quality kit. There are so many of these older cars out there, & parts are reddily available for them. Aside from that, they can still be competitive. The down side is you have to shop around to find what your looking for. The up side is that it's more rewarding. There are a gazillion old XX, & XXT's just looking for someone to run them. A really good place to look for them is at race tracks & track forums. Just my $.02 ;) Joe

I agree. Sorry. I just looked up the basic B3 price. It is $129. Oops, I thought it was under a hundred ...
But, I did just notice that it comes with a stock motor and a pinion. That helps a little.
The Rustler is looking like a good choice ! Wow, 94 bucks. Do you have all the electronics, etc ?

The new Duratrax Evader looks like a "killer" truck for a beginner. Looks like a really, really good value for the money. Heck, you could even race the thing!! It's essentially the same thing as the Losi XX-T. Check it out.

someone on another thread said "For a street price of $109 (w/o radio) it should sell well....."

But, I figured someone just getting started is going to need the electronics too..........

I'm no fan of RTRs but if you need all the electronics, and you're lookin to get started cheap, it's hard to beat RTR. If I bought one I'd immediately pull it apart. I'd then rebuild it, knowing it was done right.

That Evader does look like about the lowest price combo that looks really useful at the track. Especially if it's really like the xxt. Lots of guys at the track would be helpful with setup if it is.

If you're talking about backyard bashing, I think the Stampede would be best those big tires work well everywhere, grass especially.

luke he's looking under 100 bux and a nirto isnt the best for a newbie. now....anything under 100 bux will suck and you cant help it because you got what you payed for!DUH! so if you just go over 100 and get like a Traxxas vehicle or another bshing car it wont be crap as long as its a recognized respected car.how many people have a lazer 2000???why would he get one especially because its a foriegn company.

DUDE check what youre lhs has and go by that....as in parts company Price$

damn it, only if losi still had the jr series cars, they had oil shocks, race spirited chassis, metal bushings, and more for just 69 bucks! that must have been a good deal...maybe not sure though :O\

I would like to reply to the ebay thing. You think its 75 dollars but watch the price and what it sells for. The minute before it expires, it can hit more than you can buy it new at a store!

That's why you set a maximum bid and stick to it with eBay.. If you miss one, don't sweat it.. another one of the same thing will be along soon enough that might go at your price.. Also, look for things that end at odd hours of the morning/night.. those items go for far less than things that end at dinnertime across the country..
