is there any other way to do it other than buying a lathe?

Either send it to a motor company, take it to hobby shop, or take it to a race where a lot of guys will usually do it for a few bucks. It has to be done on a lathe though! Thats about it. :)

how much would a lathe run me? one for modified motors

$120+ They're pretty expensive. I'm not buying one yet because Brushless motors are coming out soon and if they catch on, the lathe would be worthless. I'll just have friends cut my comm until I know whether to buy a brushless motor or a lathe instead.

BTW, RCCA, I'm sure you'll get a review in the mag of the brushless motors as soon as you can, but I want to make sure you don't hesitate. I want to know that they're worth it first.
